11 Technical Data Despite how they are referred to in the marketplace, AbraMag magnetic beads aren t really magnetic. Superparamagnetic materials do not retain any significant amount of magnetization in the absence of an externally applied magnetic field (i.e. the Magnetic Separators), and thus do not form aggregates. AbraMag beads have a uniform size of 0.5 µm, making them technically nanospheres, but they can also be called microspheres. AbraMag beads small size and irregular surface give them extraordinary surface area for binding target molecules. AbraMag beads have a stronger magnetic response than competing beads of the same size (3 min. to collect at magnet vs. 10 min. for ThermoFisher MagJET beads), which means AbraMag beads are less likely to be hung up in viscous samples. AbraMag beads are non-porous, which means contaminants are not trapped within. AbraMag beads have a ferric oxide core, coated with silane that is functionalized with various groups to which the affinity groups (e.g. Protein A, anti-mouse IgG, Nickel) are firmly attached.

14 Competitive Data: PCR Cleanup 300bp 50bp Spiked primers AbraMag PCR Clean-Up Magnetic Beads clean PCR product with similar efficiency compared to other commercial magnetic beads. The 450bp PCR product ( PCR Rxn Input ), was spiked with primers to make them visible in the gel, then cleaned using each brand of beads. The cleaned PCR product was then successfully re-amplified by qpcr with similar C t values.

This allows DNA library fragment size selection for NGS preparation.
