2 KINDERGARTEN and 1 ST GRADE 10:45 10:55 Classes will make doves for prayer service. See following pages for instructions. The dove shapes will be pre-cut for you and will include the slit for the tissue paper. The children can fold the tissue to fit into the slit and attach the paint stick. Make sure the children write their names on the dove. 10:55 11:10 Weather permitting, all K-1 classes will gather around the brick planting boxes outside (near Laura s outside doors). Children will bring their doves with them. We will process from this grassy area, past the grotto, through the chapel doors, and into the chapel. Please try to keep your class together. Children and catechists will process into the chapel and take seats. Catechists, please position yourselves in such a way as to be able to address any issues the children may have. In case of inclement weather: We will gather in the end of the 600 hall (this is the hall we use for middle school (see following map) and process up the entire elementary hall into the chapel. Laura and Rosemary will lead the prayers and reflections. o The catechists will assist the classes when it is time for them to add the doves to the altar. o We will have selected teen assistants to crown Mary. o We will have a Mary prayer and response followed by the singing Sing of Mary as we crown Mary. o We will finish with a simple prayer to conclude the service. 11:10 11:40 Return to Classrooms Using your Pflaum Teaching Guide for both May 1 st and May 8 th : o Please lead the children in the Gospel reading and reflection questions for today s Gospel o Using the May 8 th Teaching Guide pages, please complete the Building Christian Community activities and discussions on Mary. 11:40 12:00 It is at this time the classes may have an end of year class party. This time is your own for planning. If you have any food, please remember to bring a blanket for the hall and address any allergies listed for your children. We will have on hand the following games that can be used if you desire: o Kindergarten - Pin the Crown on Mary o First Grade Beach ball Q and A (please go outside or use gym for game)

3 SECOND AND THIRD GRADE 10:45 11:10 As the children gather, they will make tissue paper flowers. o Please use the following link for directions and how-to video: o After children make flowers, use the long labels for the children to write their names and secure to pipe cleaner stem. Gospel Reflection o Second grade On the following pages is the Gospel discussion guide along with a sample of the How Does the Holy Spirit Teach Us activity o Third Grade The Gospel discussion can be found in your Teaching Guide and the How Does the Holy Spirit Teach Us activity is the Cover activity of this week s handout. o Please proclaim the Gospel and use the Listening to the Gospel teaching guide to lead the discussion. o Have the children complete the cover activity, if time allows, share some of the responses. 11:10 11:25 Weather permitting; all 2-3 classes will gather around the brick planting boxes outside (near Laura s outside doors). 4 FOURTH AND FIFTH GRADE 10:45 11:25 The children will explore the following: Creating a Chaplet (to be used during the May Crowning prayer service) Gospel reading and reflection Cover Activity from this week s Venture CREATING A CHAPLET As class gathers, each child will make a pipe cleaner decade rosary (Direction found on following pages). All supplies will be in your room. Please explain that you want each child to make one. You will then collect them and they will be used in our prayer service. You won t get back your own but you will get one another child made. GOSPEL READING AND REFLECTION Read the Gospel and use the Listening to the Gospel portion of the Teaching Guide to promote discussion. COVER ACTIVITY Break the classes into groups to explore Scripture about the Early Church 11:25-11:40: Weather permitting, all 3-5 classes will gather outside towards the back of the building (near Cindy s outside doors). Please bring your collection of chaplets with you.. We will process from this grassy area towards the front of the building, past the grotto, through the chapel doors, and into the chapel. Please try to keep your class together. Children and catechists will process into the chapel, and everyone will take a seat. Catechists, please position yourselves in such a way as to be able to address any issues the children may have. In case of inclement weather: We will gather at the end of the 600 hall - this is the hall we use for middle school (see following map) and process up the entire elementary hall into the chapel. Laura and Rosemary will lead the prayers and reflections. We will have selected teen assistants to crown Mary: We will have a very brief transitional talk regarding the Holy Spirit and Mary. We will then use the Glorious mysteries to say a decade of the rosary. At this time we will then pass out the chaplet rosaries to each child. We will guide the children through a decade of the rosary, calling the name of each child (by groups) before each Hail Mary. We will follow with singing Sing of Mary as we crown Mary. We will finish with a simple prayer to conclude the service. 11:40 12:00 It is at this time the classes may have an end of year class party. This time is your own for planning. If you have any food, please remember to bring a blanket for the hall and address any allergies listed for your children. We will have a Beach ball Q and A game that can be used if you desire.

5 KINDERGATEN AND FIRST GRADE DOVES Using the printed dove templates, have the children cut out the dove shape. Have the children each write their names on the back of the dove. Assist the children with cutting the slit in the upper center of the shape. Taking the piece of tissue paper, have the children fold it in a fan shape. Insert the fan into the slit to make the wings. Using glue, attach the dove to the paint stick. In addition, secure the paint stick to the dove with tape. FOURTH AND FIFTH GRADE CHAPLETS The heart and the vertical beam of the cross are one long bent pipe cleaner and the horizontal beam of the cross is a short (~2") piece of a pipe cleaner twisted on. String on ten pony beads, twist together, and you have a chaplet that can easily be used by little fingers- they can even slide the beads as they pray.
