Paper Doll Book Report 2 nd Grade Book Report due December 13 th Materials: -paper doll pattern -legal-sized paper -art supplies such as, (but not limited to) crayons, colored pens, colored pencils, construction paper, scissors, yarn, fabric, and glue Procedure: PLAN AHEAD! For this book report you may choose any chapter book with several main characters. It should be at your child s reading level. A book that can be read in 20 minutes or less is not the kind of book you should use for a book report. The goal is to challenge the reader. After you have read this book, you are going to create a string of four paper dolls by cutting out a shape using the Paper Doll Pattern 1. Fold the paper into four equal parts. Make sure your folds are very straight and tight. 2. Hold the Paper Doll Pattern over your folded paper. Make sure that the hands of the patterns are touching the very edges of the paper. 3. Cut out the shape. You will have a string of paper dolls connected at the hands. If they fell apart, then the hands may not have been touching the edge of the paper. In this case, just use a piece of tape or glue to connect them together. These paper dolls are going to represent the different characters in your book. Use your art supplies to draw faces, hair, skin colors, and clothes. Make them all look as different as you can. Mount the paper dolls on a piece of construction paper or card board. At the top of the page write your name, the title of the book, and the author s name. Below that, write the name of the publisher and the name of the illustrator. *Under each character write 1) the name of the character, and 2) a short description of that person,.
The Book Report (Notice this is not a form it is a written report.) Write a report about your book. The first part should be written like a paragraph, not a list of information. It should include the title, author, name of publisher, and the number of pages. Also include whether the book is from home, school, or the public library. In the second part you will write about the main characters. If you have 3 main characters, you will have 3 paragraphs. If you have 4 characters, you will have 4 paragraphs in this part of the book report. (There will be one paragraph for each character.) Tell at least 3 details about each character. Describe at least 2 things that they did in the story and 1 reason why they are important to the story. Use the organizer chart below to help you gather information about the characters. You will need to bring the following to school on December 13th 1) Paper Dolls mounted on a piece of construction paper 2) Book 3) Book report 4) Paper Doll Organizer Chart The book report should be in 2 nd grade appropriate language and should be hand written by the student. Parents may choose to type the report, in addition to the written report, so that the student may use the typed report in their presentation, but a typed report in not mandatory.
Paper Doll Organizer Chart Notes for the first part of the book report Title: Author s Name: Publisher: Number of Pages: Where you got this book: Notes for the second part of the book report Paragraph One Character 1 name: Paragraph Two Character 2 name:
Paragraph Three Character 3 name: Paragraph Four Character 4 name: (If you only have 3 main characters, you do not have to fill out the information for character #4.)
Here are some templates that you can use. There are lots just in case you need to do it a second time. Follow the directions to make a chain of paper dolls for your characters. You can cut the shapes shorter to make children. You can color them, use construction paper, or even real material. You DO NOT have to use these, they are here if you need them.
