6 Leather 79 Horse leather is very strong material compared to other leather because it has very dense fibers. They are good for re-palming hockey gloves and crafts. We currently have these in prairie gold, cream and pearl. (Equus caballus, ranch). MORE HORSE LEATHER The Tannery Run have very few holes or cuts, and some marks on the grain side. The hides have an average size of 10 to 14 sq. ft. Cream Pearl Prairie Gold The Tannery Run 2 horse leather is good craft grade material. The hides have a lot of scratches and a few holes. The average hide size is approximately 14 sq. ft. The Tannery Run 3 horse leather is the same as the tannery run 2 but with more grain damage. The average hide size is approximately 11 sq. ft. The Reject grade have more marks on the grain side than the tannery run leathers. Topgrain leather has a smooth leather side (skin side) and a rough side (suede side). It is also referred to as buckskin leather. If we know what you are looking for, we can help you get the right piece of leather. WHY ARE LEATHER PRICES GOING UP? Many tanneries in North America have closed given the cost of making leather here. At the same time, the demand for deerskin and other leather has gone up with China sucking in raw material from around the world to use in making gloves, jackets, or bags. The tanneries we work with in North America are chronically short of deerskin for making leather. During the 2015 hunting season the number of deer collect was about 30% of previous years in Ontario. The numbers were weak again in 2016 hunting season. Expect prices to continue trending up.

The moose leather hides are available only in quarters or sides, not full hides. The cork quarter hides range in size from 5½ to 7¾ sq. ft. The cork sides range in size from 15 to18¼ sq. ft. The Shaved sheep leather hides range from 5 to 10.5 sq. ft. Shaved leather have a more uniform thickness than tannery run leather and fewer to no holes. (Ovis aries, ranch). Pull-up leather are treated to have a natural appearance which lightens in color when stretched during wear to produce a unique worn-in effect with time. This kind of aniline leather is deeply impregnated with oils and waxes, so when the leather is bent or pulled, the oils move around within the skin, causing lighter tones and interesting colors to become visible.

It cuts through leather, furs, hides, and skins like it is going through butter. This knife has been especially designed for use in the fur industry. When we learned that our supplier was discontinuing the knife, we had more custom made for us in Germany that s how much we like it. We think you will love it. Each pack contains two triangular blades. Blades are also sold separately in packs of 10 or 100 only. The knife comes with two blades.
