2 British colours & textiles spring - summer 2016 There is a feeling of optimism from the UK mills as they develop further connections between pattern, raw material and provenance. New collections offer rich discoveries, tactile and textural experiences which beautifully reflect British cultural diversity. It's vital to keep looking at things with fresh eyes and at times even changing our minds, since this refreshes our outlook and creativity, in the same way that social media allows us to disconnect and reconnect. Spring/Summer 2016 places emphasis on originality and is the perfect moment to experiment with creative ideas drawn from both tradition and the unconventional, thereby dissolving boundaries and offering limitless fabric design possibilities. The mood from the British mills is one of curiosity and sensitivity which is combined with openness and light: there is a bold and irreverent feeling in the air which allows us room to experiment, resulting in highly original outcomes. The new season opens with the UK mills active, vital and dynamic in the globalized textile world. These colours and directions were developed in conjunction with designers working for British textile companies

3 virtuosity What is taste skilled craftsmanship or a jumbled together look? This theme evokes a sprightly acknowledgement by presenting humour, tongue-in-cheek and naïve looks stripped of all pretence. The look is all about spontaneity, breaking the rules and ignoring the status quo and the opinions of others. Original ideas are gathered from folklore, vintage, ethnic, graphics etc, reworked and expressed in a totally original and at times unusual and amusing way. 5 naturality A responsible approach to textile manufacturing for an eco-conscious future. New fibres will be added or blended with wools, linens, silks, cottons to transform the direction of recycling and regeneration, it remains vital for future designers to be pro-active, constantly experimenting and leading the way. Fabric finishing becomes more mechanical than chemical treatments, cleaner dyestuffs and a focus on water conservation brings us a subtle colour range. Fabrics with handmade characteristics are central, materials with imperfections admired, and rustic textural qualities are accentuated. Consideration is given to every detail of fabric development and the selection of beautiful fine fibres, yarns and patterns is as crucial as the sophisticated colour selection. The story hovers between the genders with mannish features coming together with ultra feminine fabrics to create a timeless and sartorial look.
