In sea and on land, the famous line has been confidently worn and trusted for almost 70 years. It has been taken from the decks of ships to the floors of oceans. It has travelled across continents and into the collections of the best-dressed people. Certainly, the Seamaster has always been the complete lifestyle watch. So, in 2002, when a new model was created, it seemed perfectly natural to give it a name that represented the heritage and versatility that the Seamaster was known for. Hence, the Aqua Terra was born. 15 years later, it has evolved to become one of OMEGA s quintessential pieces. Striped across its dial like the decks of luxury yachts, it has the look, and now the proven precision, to take you anywhere you want to go. 1

In 2017 the OMEGA Aqua Terra is refreshed with a new design. CASTING OFF THE LOOK CHANGING TACK In 2002, OMEGA introduced a bold new range of timepieces to its famous Seamaster family. Aqua Terra was the Latin name chosen for the collection, honouring the spirit of the original OMEGA Seamaster models, which were known for their reliability both on water (Aqua) and on land (Terra). The blend of city chic and ocean ingenuity was seamless. For customers with classic tastes, the Aqua Terra cases were crafted with twisted and facetted lugs that recalled the OMEGA designs of the 1960s. These pure lines gave the Aqua Terra a distinctively timeless feel, while the crisp, clean dial with its triangular hour markers also paid homage to the styles of the past. Since its first appearance in 2002, the Seamaster Aqua Terra collection has continued to evolve, but always ensuring that the watches remain contemporary and relevant. While the typical Aqua Terra design aspects (case shape, dial elements and handset) have remained constant, almost every other element has been reimagined over the years. With 40 models offered in four different sizes (41 mm, 38 mm, 35 mm and 28 mm), the first Aqua Terra line delivered a refreshing contrast of style and innovation that could easily fit an active lifestyle. The minimalist design worked perfectly for business days and social nights yet the watches remained 100 percent Seamaster at their core, with a performance that was solidly backed by anti-shock technology and water resistance to 15 bar (150m / 500ft). AROUND THE WRIST Usually, a leather strap or metal bracelet completes the classic Aqua Terra look. For 2017, OMEGA has fine-tuned this area, with each watch made to fit easily around different sized wrists. In both male and female models, the metal bracelets are now better integrated to the case. They include hardened links and a patented screw and pin system. Some models have been built onto a unique rubber strap, with a metal link connecting them to the case. CLEAR DIAL With its triangular indexes and bold hands, the dial of the Aqua Terra is known for its clean and pure design. Again, this approach is reminiscent of OMEGA s 2nd generation Seamaster 300 and delivers an easy-to-read layout. Today, this aesthetic novelty remains a distinguishing feature of the Aqua Terra models, although 2017 s newest cases have been refined for a symmetrical look and include a wave-edged caseback design. 13 LADIES COLLECTION This year, the Seamaster Aqua Terra Ladies Collection features 30 new models in three different sizes. Even within the refined cases, OMEGA has managed to give the timepieces several design twists and, in most models, a Master Chronometer upgrade that offers impressive levels of precision and performance. The clean and crisp dials feature mother-of-pearl and 14 different colours, and the symmetrical cases have been redesigned to achieve a seamless integration with the feminine-styled bracelet. A cleaner dial, with the water-resistance wording now moved to the caseback. All models come with diamond indexes. A new symmetrical case design for a beautifully balanced look. 38 mm or 34 mm A range of different dials, including mother-of-pearl, glossy or shimmer effect. The Swiss Federal Institute of Metrology (METAS) has ensured that testing for the Master Chronometer leaves no room for doubt. Including exposure to a magnetic force of 15,000 gauss, each watch is subjected to eight separate examinations, with every step carefully checking for function and accuracy. It goes without saying, that the margins for passing these independent tests are much tighter than those set by COSC. Master Chronometer is OMEGA s standard for today and for the future. The new Seamaster Aqua Terra collection is the latest to embrace the certification and provides customers with an added level of trust and confidence. This ensures that each watch is properly tested for underwater conditions. DEVIATION OF CHRONOMETRIC PRECISION BETWEEN 100% AND 33% OF POWER RESERVE In this test, the watch is placed in six different positions and its chronometric precision is recorded at 100% power reserve in each one. This process is repeated when the power reserve of the watch reaches 33%. We then take the average results of the six measures during both states of the power reserve and give the deviation between the two. DEVIATION OF CHRONOMETRIC PRECISION IN SIX POSITIONS In this test, the watch is placed in six different positions and its chronometric precision is recorded in each one. Out of these six results, we show the deviation between the two most extreme results known as the Delta. FUNCTION OF COSC-APPROVED MOVEMENT DURING EXPOSURE TO 15,000 GAUSS (1.5 TESLA) MAGNETIC FIELD This test examines the movement of the watch, placing it in two different positions and subjecting it to a magnetic field of 15,000 gauss. The functioning of the movement is audibly checked using a microphone. The next day, the watch is demagnetised and the chronometric precision is calculated after another 24 hours. We show the minimal deviation between the two days. POWER RESERVE This test checks the power reserve of the watch by proving that it continues to function at the limit of its expected capacity. AVERAGE DAILY CHRONOMETRIC PRECISION OF THE WATCH This test is carried out over four days. During these days, the watch is placed in six different positions and two alternating temperature zones. It is also exposed to a magnetic field of 15,000 gauss. Chronometric precision is recorded each day. At the end of the four days, the results are used to calculate a daily average. 20

Most recently, it is the Seamaster Aqua Terra that has been at the centre of the brand s bold achievements. REACHING 15,000 GAUSS It was in 2013 that OMEGA first introduced its Seamaster Aqua Terra >15,000 gauss. As the name suggests, this new model was the first to guarantee magnetic resistance up to 15,000 gauss and it completely revolutionised the direction of anti-magnetic watchmaking. Instead of protecting the movement with a traditional inner case, the new Aqua Terra made use of selected non-ferrous materials in the movement itself. REACHING 80,000 GAUSS The 15,000 gauss milestone had been achieved by OMEGA and quickly became the defining standard of a new Master Chronometer certification, introduced by the Swiss Federal Institute of Metrology in But in keeping with its history of pushing boundaries, OMEGA wanted to prove that its watches could withstand magnetic fields measured in not five, but six figure numbers. What is the true anti-magnetic capability of an OMEGA watch? The first experiment to find out took place in 2013, when a prototype Seamaster Aqua Terra was subjected to 80,000 gauss at the Paul Scherrer Institut (PSI) in Villigen, Switzerland. Despite the intense levels of magnetism, the OMEGA functioned perfectly after the test was completed. 22 REACHING 160,000 GAUSS The second stage of OMEGA s high-intensity experiments took place in 2016 at the Laboratoire National des Champs Magnetiques Intenses (LNCMI) in Grenoble, France. At LNCMI, the only facility suitable for such a watch experiment, the prototype Seamaster Aqua Terra was subjected to an extraordinary 160,000 gauss (16 tesla). Incredibly, the timepiece functioned perfectly during and after exposure to this huge magnetic field. In fact, these levels of magnetism are more suited to fundamental research than everyday use. Just the electric power required to create the 160,000 gauss magnetic field was equivalent to that of 7,000 vacuum cleaners! SEEING IS BELIEVING To emphasize OMEGA s incredible achievements in the area of anti-magnetic watchmaking, a dedicated showcase has been installed at the OMEGA Museum in Bienne, Switzerland. It focuses on many of the brand s breakthrough anti-magnetic timepieces and proudly displays the prototype Seamaster Aqua Terra models used during the recent experiments. 15,000 gauss remains the promise of OMEGA s Master Chronometer standard, but it s these watches that prove the brand s true capabilities can go much higher.
