2 WANDERS TULIP ARMCHAIR A lengthened and oversized reinterpretation of the classic armchair The shell is made of soft polyurethane co-injected with rigid polyurethane; it s padded with foam and acrylic layer, and the upholstery (fabric or leather) is fixed. Marcel Wanders designed in 2010 the Tulip armchair. It was conceived with the poetic idea of people sitting on the stem of a flower. The upholsterer holds the armchair upside down; a special glue is sprinkled on the dress of the armchair, and then it dries in 24 hours. Finally, this dress is inverted and inserted from the right side, with attention to the correspondence between the stitches and the edges of the shell. The glue is softened with a jet of hot air to secure the fabric, a flat iron helps to eliminate wrinkles. British Standard 5852 Crib5 Structural tests UNI EN and ANSI BIFMA

It allows to build tables of different shapes and sizes. The legs are made of die-cast aluminium; they can be matt lacquered thanks to the use of special treatments of the base; it s also available the polish aluminium version. The top is in glass, lacquered MDF, natural oak, or wengè stained oak. The beveled edge gives lightness to the plan. The elements that create the structure are identical modules which are assembled together with continuity of shape. It is possible to joint 3, 4 or 5 legs depending on the width of the top. The base modularity simplifies the transportation.

4 BAC A series of chairs available in three versions and in several finishings: in ash wood, wengè stained, aniline red cherry and with the new walnut finish; the seat is in wood, linoleum, or covered in leather or fabric. A project by Jasper Morrison (2009), it s a contemporary reinterpretation of classical chairs from northern Europe, which were inspired by the ancient oriental seats. The craftsmanship of our workshops working solid wood creates the structure. The seat in beech wood is veneered in ash, upholstered, or finished in linoleum. This finish is the result of a complex process that allows to co-mold plywood and linoleum. The typical joints of traditional carpentry allow to realize a resistant and aesthetically pleasing structure, without screws. By reversing the chair and observing the base it s possible to appreciate this detail.

The technique of production also requires an extreme precision in welding together different elements of metal sheet, in order to prevent swelling on the vertical walls. Is it stable?

5 DROP A line of two-sided bookshelves opened on both sides in three different heights, made of a laser-cut sheet of metal, matt lacquered. The structure of the library is made of the technology of folding to bend the pickled sheet, to obtain corners with angles with minimum radius. The technique of production also requires an extreme precision in welding together different elements of metal sheet, in order to prevent swelling on the vertical walls. Is it stable? Yes, the stability is ensured by structural tests; by placing a weight on the top compartment of the library the equilibrium is secured by the angle of the compartment and a plate at the base, which acts as a ballast. Designed by Nendo in 2012, as an evolution of some unique pieces for an exhibition in Seoul. The dominant theme id represented by squared surfaces that move in space, creating a sense of equilibrium between balance and imbalance, in a sort of frozen 'cascade'. The peculiarity of this project is the study of a scale of special colors inspired by the natural elements that reminds Japan, from the rose-colored blossoms of cherry trees, to the warm gray of the stones of the brooks. Even the varnishing phase is delicate because of welding and sanding processes. Washing and filling are used to remove imperfections.

A product of 2010, born from the idea by Raw-Edges to overturn the traditional use of veneer, material tradionally used to finish the furniture outside, here experienced in a structural way, like a mold. The outer frame of the bench - seat, sides and base - is made of ash solid wood. The front faces are formed by veneer (thin sheet of wood). The polyurethane foam is injected into the bench from a hole in the base. Where is it? MOMA Permanent Collection The shape of the surface is the result of contact between the sheet of wood and the foam injected. When the foam dries it creates shrinkages, crumpling the sheet. The particular construction procedure makes each piece different from the others. It is an industrial product made with artisan characteristics, which we can define as post-industrial.

7 LOTUS Lotus is a seating collection consisting of low, medium and high armchairs, with or without armrests, available with various bases in brushed aluminum or chrome, and in the new matt finish, in three colors. The body is in bent beech plywood; two recesses on seat and back allow to fix a first expanded layer. The support to the seat and the backrest is guaranteed by elastic bands, and a polyurethane layer creates greater comfort. The molded upholstery covers the chair and it is inserted into the slot on the edge of the shell. The edge is finished by a fabric piping. Conceived by Jasper Morrison Lotus was born in 2006, a poetic vision of the classic and contemporary office chair. The co-molding of the fabric (or leather) with polyurethane foam creates the characteristic shape of small cushions. They support seat and back. It's the result of an ergonomic study of the chair that provides comfort, despite the small thickness and its visual "lightness". Is it certified? Today, in the period of the triumph of upholstery as a status symbol, pillows and large zippers by Jasper Morrison are a conceptual alternative by ABITARE The seat consists of blocks of polyurethane foam with metal insert and elastic belts; backs and arms have wooden frame and polyurethane foam padding. The base is made of an iron pipe frame with rectangular section. Superoblong, a stroke of genius, easy to view, complex implementation, used to have the characteristic to change with time, assuming soft and natural shapes. Today it has evolved to a maturer stage as a residential sofa, where the structure of the seat is flawless over time.

Designed by Jasper Morrison in 2006, it s the wooden evolution of a limeted edition in Carrara marble.

9 OAK TABLE MODULE A series of rectangular low tables; they can be disassembled, stacked and joined with each other. Usable individually as coffee tables, or alternatively in compositions which act as small libraries or shelves. Designed by Jasper Morrison in 2006, it s the wooden evolution of a limeted edition in Carrara marble. The tops are made of staves of solid natural oak, and the removable legs are made of massive natural oak turned. Circular impressions on the top are useful to lay upon the different elements. These slots are obtained through a particular woodworking.

10 THIN BLACK TABLE It s a low table with metallic structure and glass top; it gives life to a game of joints and transparency which reminds Escher maze designs. The steel structure, with squared section, is coated with matt black epoxidic powder. An upper profile "L" shaped supports a table top in extra-light glass. Structural load tests, ensure its strength and durability, despite the thin frame and the particular geometry. Nendo, in 2011, once again surprises us with this creation: a geometrical table created by the intersection of two offset cubes. It's the result of an extensive research on the subject of black line drawn in the air that creates transparent surfaces and volumes. The shapes that emerge are an expression full of meaning, such as the Japanese calligraphy. Only a precise job, carried out by skilled hands can create a clean and ethereal geometry like this. Weldings between the profiles are invisible, and the material seems to fly.

Each drawer is different, handmade according to traditional carpentry. The structure, which is a wood masterpiece, is curved by expert hands, resulting so thin and precise that seems a drawing.
