6 Decision was taken to include ambitious targets as to Waste Recycling in our five year Environmental Strategic Plan: Have all vessels equipped for recycling DEFINE MOBILISE ACQUIRE EXECUTE ASSESSMENT Maintain continuous improvement as to amount recycled (waste inventories ) Install compactors on targeted vessels Have all vessels qualify for the Ici on recycle certification CONTINUE

7 What is Ici on recycle certification? Initiative of Recyc-Quebec Provincial Pgm Requirements to obtain: DEFINE MOBILISE ACQUIRE EXECUTE ASSESSMENT CONTINUE Awareness activities At-source reduction activities Reuse activities A recycling level of at least 70% for Bronze, 80% for Silver and 90% for Gold echelon Be audited by an external party

Senior Management commitment DEFINE Green Purchasing Policy favouring low usage and/or recyclable packaging MOBILISE ACQUIRE EXECUTE Commitment of Main Office to work into the same Ici on recycle process as requested to the vessels ASSESSMENT CONTINUE Selection of the vessel Camilla Desgagnés as the test pilot

9 What actions have been taken? We hired an external specialised firm (Chamard & Associates): DEFINE To realise an initial survey of the situation on board MOBILISE ACQUIRE To suggest improvement actions EXECUTE To help with training and education ASSESSMENT CONTINUE To carry out the final External audit

10 What actions have been taken? We took at-source reduction initiatives on targeted non-recyclable wastes DEFINE MOBILISE ACQUIRE EXECUTE ASSESSMENT CONTINUE

11 What actions have been taken? We installed sufficient on board sorting material And a new compactor GREEN MARINE Storing Bins Room Sorting bins Multi-material recycling islands Compactor

12 What actions have been taken? We partnered with shore installations to provide recycling bins and services GREEN MARINE

13 DEFINE What actions have been taken? We trained and increased awareness of recycling management among: The crew And the stevedores MOBILISE ACQUIRE EXECUTE ASSESSMENT At the beginning of the season Feedback during the voyage after each verification by vessel management CONTINUE

14 Reactions of personnel involved with changes Initial reaction: - Too far-reaching, too fast - Many employees were proud to be part of a company that sets such ambitious goals (young people were believers) Attitude after having made the attempt: - "You've convinced me, it works. I'm a believer and will do likewise at home. - It's working. - We'll do even better next year!

15 Results on the Camilla after 4 months: GREEN MARINE - Camilla Desgagnés is the 1 st vessel to be awarded the attestation Ici on recycle! = Bravo! - Results = 84.2% deviation from landfilling - Certification = Performance Level 3 - Silver Echelon

16 Results after 8 months: - Quebec City office reached the highest level of certification 90.8% recycling rate - Certification Performance Level 3 - Gold echelon (Awaiting final confirmation) Key differential factor was compostable wastes segregation and disposal

17 What we learned: Wastes tonnage Composition: - 62 % was Metal and Wood - 13 % was organic matters + hand dry paper - 9 % was Mixed Recyclables (Paper, plastics, glass, tetra packs, cans and bags) - 8 % was other recyclables (mattress, textiles, gloves, spray cans, ) - 5 % was Cardboard - 3 % was non-recyclables GREEN MARINE

18 Key Success Factors on board the Camilla Desgagnés & the Quebec City Office: - Management commitment and leadership - Setting up waste segregation tools DEFINE MOBILISE ACQUIRE EXECUTE ASSESSMENT - Have recycling bins and be sure it is the easiest way - Start with awareness sessions for all members - Consistent monitoring to verify progress of proper management - Feedback and training - Shore recovery facilities and help CONTINUE Has to be a vision

19 Next Steps: DEFINE MOBILISE ACQUIRE EXECUTE Reach Green Marine targets of continuous increased recycling throughout the fleet Extend Ici on recycle certification to other vessels Reach Gold echelon level on the Camilla Desgagnés Have our other offices meet requirements ASSESSMENT CONTINUE

20 Next challenges to get «Ici on Recycle» on other vessels: DEFINE MOBILISE ACQUIRE EXECUTE ASSESSMENT CONTINUE Many vessels have more space restrictions (compactors and other adapted solutions) Visited Terminals are not all capable to manage recyclables Compostable recovery could be a key for some vessels with less wood and metals (Tankers) Some vessels equipped with incinerators could be reluctant to manage recycling
