6 6 The Siemens Oil & Gas newsletter Siemens at OTC 2013 Offshore Drilling: Excellent reliability on board Innovative solution packages for offshore drilling that secure reliable operation and availability are in high demand. Such solutions are exactly what Siemens has to offer based on broad expertise in electrical, instrumentation, and telecommunication (EIT), rotating equipment, and water treatment solutions, as well as years of hands-on experience in the oil and gas business and marine applications. Siemens scope of supply covers the entire lifecycle of equipment and assets, thus ensuring long-term reliability and ideal investment protection. Moreover, thanks to long-standing business partnerships with leading shipyards, naval architects, and drilling service operators, Siemens understands the needs and demands of the markets and how to deliver exact solutions. DP3 closed ring solution Power management is of vital importance for dynamic positioning. Failures in the power system components or external faults should be identified when they occur and be isolated from the rest of the system. A system operating in DP3 mode in closed ring configuration does this. And in case of malfunction of the primary safeguarding devices, a backup system will be put in operation. Siemens has worked with drilling majors and the classification society to develop solutions operating in DP3 mode with one fully integrated power system. Our solution will additionally result in a reduction of fuel demand (about 5 %), operating with only two engines online and working on higher power utilization to achieve 17 to 23 percent fewer operating hours on engines, resulting in several advantages: Lower emissions Reduced contamination of the engines Diesel engines running at a higher load level Improved selectivity in the main power system Improvements for the maintenance program of the vessel BlueDrive drilling rig power system For drilling jack-up rigs our new topology for the electrical system connects the generators directly to the DC bus via rectifier. There is no need for synchronization between generators and it allows load sharing. This new power solution can be combined with existing drilling and jacking drives and various power sources. It results in advantages in construction, operation, and maintenance, including these effects: Reduced weight (fewer switch boards and transformers) and size Ultra-fast engine startup Ultra-fast blackout prevention and reduced recovery time Lower noise for the crew Reduced fuel consumption Lower wear and tear BlueDrive jacking drives Siemens has developed an electrical variable-speed drive jacking system that can significantly speed up the jacking process. Its unique diagnostic systems give precise data feedback during operation, which allows optimal speed and torque control as well as synchronization. This helps reduce the possibility of mechanical overstress and wear of the legs, and makes the need for system-overrating a thing of the past. The new Siemens BlueDrive jacking drives thus make possible higher efficiency, time savings, costoptimization, and improved investment protection. What is more, the new BlueDrive jacking drives also help save energy, as less power and less cooling capacity are required. BlueDrive thruster drives Siemens has introduced an AC drive system specially designed for propulsion applications, which ensures the safe and reliable operation of the vessel under all conditions. Particular effort has been made to ensure reliable handling of both the dynamics within the power supply system and the various load conditions at sea. The BlueDrive system comes with a fast-responding blackout prevention system, and is capable of pre-charging. It can, therefore, be regarded as a non-heavy consumer. Its compact converters minimize footprint, and thereby costs, and the system s separate transformers ensure the utmost flexibility in the choice of mounting locations, thus saving up to 30 percent in space and reducing power loss in the electrical room by as much as 50 percent. «

7 Siemens at OTC 2013 The Siemens Oil & Gas newsletter 7 Offshore Production: Solutions for highest reliability and availability A good portion of the global oil and gas reserves are to be found offshore. This is the field of fixed platforms, semisubmersibles and floating production, storage, and offloading vessels (FPSOs). The latter are becoming increasingly important with oil and gas production penetrating deep-sea regions and with the increasing economic significance of smaller reservoirs. Achieving maximized availability and operating efficiency are central challenges for all units on board. Spacesaving design for all topside solutions in suitable modules is imperative. Our compact lightweight industrial gas turbines, ranging from 5 to 50 MW, are perfectly suited for demanding topsides applications, suitable for deck mounting, in-hull installations or as multiple units in single-lift modules. They offer high tolerance to fuels containing hydrogen sulfide, and can run on a wide range of gas fuels, from rich to lean, while the SGT-500 can also run on HFO or heavy crude oil. Dual fuel systems come as a standard option on all our gas turbines,

8 8 The Siemens Oil & Gas newsletter Siemens at OTC 2013 allowing for operation on liquid fuel at initial start-up and other occasions when gas fuel is not available. Furthermore, all engines can be equipped with our robust, reliable Dry Low Emissions combustion system, with nominal emissions below 25 ppm NO x on gas fuel, and the ability to operate on rich, lean and variable gas fuels. And with long times between overhauls and core exchange capability, high availability and hence maximum uptime is ensured. Power Distribution With a single power source on board a rig or vessel, power quality becomes an essential issue for the reliability and safety of all operations. In Siemens comprehensive power distribution solutions, all systems, products, and components are modularized, standardized, and fully assembled in E-house solutions pretested onshore. This includes MV gas- and air-insulated switchgear, LV switchgear, power and distribution transformers, the cable connections and bus ducts, the motor control center, and all protection and energy automation. Thanks to this approach, installation and commissioning times can be kept to a minimum. Water treatment Siemens offers a complete range of products, systems, and services for produced water treatment and water treatment for enhanced oil recovery. For offshore production requirements, this includes solutions for raw water, produced water, cleaning of seawater, and solutions for injection of seawater for pressure support and enhanced recovery support in the reservoir. Our produced water treatment/reinjection systems and raw/seawater injection solutions can be supported by feasibility studies, optionally combined with testing in the laboratory or a pilot project. Treatment options include solids separation (hydrocyclones), primary, secondary and tertiary produced water separation (hydrocyclones, flotation systems, walnut shell filters), and advanced treatment using membranes. Automation and control systems Automation and control are essential for reliable operation. As a global leader in these fields, Siemens can offer products and solutions to cover all main FPSO applications, including: Process automation Information management Power management Marine systems Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) incl. ESD and F&G Telecommunications To ensure full interoperability with the business level and transparency for fast decision making, Siemens automation solutions seamlessly integrate all operations and all levels from SIMATIC PCS 7 automation at the field level to MES and ERP. This results in well-organized processes and real-time enterprise, highest plant availability and safety, and increased production at optimized operating efficiency. Gas compression After the gas-oil separation, associated gas can be compressed on an FPSO for transportation onshore. Or it can be used to fire the gas turbines and for reinjection purposes. However, both gas lift and gas reinjection require a compressor to provide the appropriate pressure. One example from Siemens broad lineup of field-proven electric and mechanical drive compressors optimized for FPSO requirements is the STV-SV barrel-type compressor, especially suitable due to its small space requirements. Like all other Siemens compressors, it is complemented with corresponding instrumentation and controls. «Published by: Siemens AG, Energy Sector, Oil & Gas Division Siemens AG For more information, please contact: Siemens AS Oil & Gas Solutions Østre Aker vei Oslo, Norway post.no@siemens.com All rights reserved.
