Project Details: Nodal lab Participating Labs Nodal Officer Taskforce Chairman Total Man Days Approved Cost Fund received Fund utilized CSIR-National Chemical Laboratory (NCL), Pune Central Electronics Engineering Research Institute (CEERI), Chennai Dr V Premnath, Sr Principa l Scientist, CSIR-NCL Director, CSIR-NCL Rs lakhs Rs lakhs Rs lakhs 3. Periodic Key Recommendations of Task Force/RC/Monitoring Committee S.No Key Recommendations of Task Force/RC/ Monitoring Committee. J Proposed Revised Act10n taken D I' bl K e 1vera e Deliverable on ey 5 (approved Recommend by Task ations Force) 16th DrPremnath reviewed work done at As per NA May NCL and DrBala reviewed the work proposal 2013 done at CEERI, Chennai. The task force found the progress satisfactory and as per plan. 5th June Dr. Premnath gave an overview of the project goals, components and Budgets. Dr. Premnath summarized work done so far at NCL As per proposal NA I Dr. J Nityanandan summarized work done at NCL on security feature related ideas based on spiropyran scaffold. Dr. BalaPeasla summarized work 1
2 done at CEERI-Chennai and NCL towards the development of overt and covert security features: 0 Progress is presented towards the development of overt color shifting features using large area interference lithography (dielectric gratings) at CEERI Chennai and Dippen nanolithograhy (metallic gratings) at CEERI Pilani. Both these approaches show color shifting properties. Further optimization is in place to obtain stark color contrast at various viewing angles and to avoid the rainbow effect. 0 Progress towards overt security features using T era hertz tags was presented. New THz molecules synthesized at NCL were simulated and characterized using THz spectroscopy facility at CEERI Chennai. Several newly synthesized molecules show resonances below 1 THz, a significant milestone towards realizing electronically detectable THz tags. 0 Dynamic tuning of THz resonances was explored using Azobenzene based molecular switches. Initial results show very good promise towards realizing visible light controlled THz tags. 0 "Terahertz tags" full patent (application no. PCT/IN2015/050005) filing was done. 0 Paper titled "1 DColour Shifting Properties of Gold Grating Fabricated Using Dip Pen Nanolithography" was awarded best paper award at Photonics 2014 international conference 4
3 held at lit Kharaghpur in Dec Preliminary discussion with Dr. Reddy labs towards collaborations in the area of THz spectroscopic analysis of various molecules. Dr V. Premnath added some other contributions made: 0 Dr V. Premnath (and Mrs AnuyaNisal) contributed to the tendering process and associated committees of RBI for the procurement of Plastic Currency Notes. 0 Dr V. Premnath also contributed to a technical committee constituted by RBI for evaluating coating technologies for improving paper durability. This was followed by the discussion on forward path. During FY , it is proposed to further the program via: 0 Continued advancement of new ideas on substrate durability and security features. 0 Initiate sponsored research and consulting activity with SPMCIL 0 Explore signing of a RAFA with SPMCIL 0 Explore signing of MOU/ RAFA with BRBNMPL and BNPMIPL. 0 Visit to BRBNMPL and BNPMIPL sites The Task Force reviewed the progress of the FUTURE program and found it satisfactory and as per plan. The Task Force commended the team for the good progress made and the linkages to end users that has been forged. 5
