WATER IS AN ACTIVE FORCE. IT IS POWERFUL, AND WHEN USED WISELY, IT CAN CHANGE THE WORLD. WE BELIEVE THAT PROVIDING ACCESS TO WATER IS NOT AN END IN ITSELF. IT IS A MEANS OF ACCELERATING COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT. IT IS ABOUT SECURING FUTURES.
WE TURN WATER INTO ACTION.

why now? ALMOST 750 MILLION PEOPLE WORLDWIDE LIVE WITHOUT ACCESS TO SAFE WATER. THIS IS MORE THAN JUST A STATISTIC. THIS IS AN EVERYDAY REALITY. IT S A BARRIER TO SUSTAINABILITY. Water is essential to life Lack of access to safe water is a harsh reality for millions. Every day in countless communities around the world, millions of women and girls walk for miles on end, just to fetch and carry water. Combine this with daily food shortages, limited access to education, lack of sanitation facilities, unsafe hygiene habits and disabling illnesses which often lead to death and it s easy to see how difficult it is to escape the cycle of inequality and poverty. A sustainable solution is needed Access to safe water is one of the most efficient ways to support individual and collective development. But the challenges are significant, so more than good intentions are needed to keep water initiatives in operation. Water projects often don t succeed as a result of inappropriate design, broken pumps, lack of replacement parts available in the local markets and no maintenance. However, the shortcomings aren t only technical. Lack of community involvement, no local project ownership and unsanitary hygiene practices also present major challenges for sustainable implementation. Habits such as open defecation, discharge of waste near water sources, transportation of water in dirty containers, preparing food with dirty hands and eating food that isn t washed with safe water can all impede any hope of lasting positive change. Collaborative ownership leads to empowerment Providing infrastructure adapted to community needs and an increased awareness of sound hygiene habits are the kind of support that is essential to enabling selfreliance. Generating true sustainability requires the involvement of people and organizations to help provide access to safe water and harness the power of water as an ongoing source of vitality. Better health, better food, better sanitation, better incomes they can all happen right now.
our approach BY CREATING ACCESS TO SAFE WATER AND FOSTERING A POSITIVE ENVIRONMENT FOR IMPROVED BEHAVIOR, WE HELP PEOPLE IN COMMUNITIES ENRICH THEIR LIVES ON COUNTLESS LEVELS. SIMPLY PROVIDING ACCESS TO SAFE WATER CANNOT BE THE ENDGAME. We turn access into success To achieve true long-term sustainability, we go above and beyond. We believe in the combined power of providing access to safe water while inspiring behavioral change with respect to water and proper hygiene practices. And we do it by creating a lasting understanding through social arts to create an emotional connection with communities influencing positive change and transforming behaviors. They re the kind of winning conditions we need to help communities. We provide solutions that withstand the test of time Creating long-term sustainable change takes time. Our interventions, on average, take up to five years of work in the field. We design tailor-made projects and technical solutions specific to community needs and challenges. Seven years after the start of our first 1 Water for life, and for generations, Improve International, Web. May 21, project in Nicaragua, an independent study revealed that 85% of the infrastructures provided by ONE DROP TM were still operational. This is a remarkable accomplishment when, on average, 30 to 50% 1 of water-access infrastructures in the WASH sector (Water, Sanitation, Hygiene) fail after the first year of project implementation. We have a unique method Access. Behavior. Capital. These are the three active components that we employ to form a united force to help communities reach self-reliance when it comes to water for consumption and productive purposes, sanitation and hygiene. The combined power of these three components is the unique formula that makes our water access and sanitation projects sustainable. We call it: A B C for Sustainability TM. ACCESS Provide people with the infrastructure for improved access to safe water for consumption and hygiene, as well as sanitation. BEHAVIOR Use locally inspired social art forms to raise awareness, mobilize communities and influence positive behavioral change over the long term. CAPITAL Offer financial and entrepreneurial training as well as microloans to support market-based solutions, local agricultural production, economic growth and improved community well-being.

access We saw the improvement directly on our plates! They taught us a lot and opened our minds. Everything is fresh and I no longer need to go far to buy food. Now, I simply walk to the vegetable garden. Already, we re eating more fresh fruit and vegetables and the children love it! I m very grateful for this project. With the support we received and what we learned, we can improve our production. maria, El Salvador We make a difference You ll find One Drop TM s sustainable WASH projects in some of the world s driest areas, where lack of access to safe water is the most pressing issue. This is especially true in rural and semi-rural communities, where international help is needed the most. In rural Burkina Faso, for instance, 24% of the population is deprived of access to an improved safe water source. 2 Sanitation is also a major issue in the countries where we are active. In fact, there are currently 2.5 billion people worldwide without access to sanitation infrastructures 3, giving them little to no chance of leading healthy lives. In rural India, only a limited percentage of the population has access to adequate sanitation infrastructures, while 70% 4 are forced to defecate in the open. solutions that meet their specific needs and with the proper training, we protect the overall investment and create long-term positive impact. Getting individuals to rally around a single cause requires a great deal of sensitivity with respect to the decision-making structures of communities. In Central America, it all begins with the family which is why for our projects in Nicaragua, Honduras and El Salvador, we started with families providing each one with a water filter that enabled them to eliminate 99% of bacteria. In Africa, on the other hand (Burkina Faso to be precise), we began by constructing and rehabilitating community wells to adapt to the local population s way of life. We mobilize communities With the goal of self-reliance, we bring together local leaders, organizations and citizens to empower them through active participation in our projects. Water committees are created to ensure infrastructures stay operational and become an integral part of community life. By developing easy-to-maintain water-access We improve lives With new water and sanitation infrastructures created for consumption, production and hygiene, people have access to sufficient safe water where they live. Closer access to water means an improved quality of life more time for education, creating and maintaining gardens for fresher, better food and less chance of illness thanks to improved hygiene. 2 Progress on Drinking Water and Sanitation, WHO-UNICEF, Web. 9 ACCESS TO SAFE WATER MEANS ACCESS TO A BETTER LIFE. FAMILY CARE, EDUCA- TION, REVENUE-GENERAT- ING ACTIVITIES IT S JUST THE BEGINNING OF WHAT SAFE WATER CAN DO FOR COMMUNITIES IN NEED. water is precious

behavior Most people are not suffering from water-related diseases anymore. Now that the water points are closer, women have more time for domestic work and productive activities. Following the artistic activities, villagers changed their behaviors for the better. Life in the village is pleasant. Kone Siaka, Burkina Faso We are about social change One Drop TM s projects build on communities existing culture and beliefs to inspire and mobilize them towards awareness, responsibility and an enhanced quality of life. For many of these communities, years of living in extreme conditions have created a deeprooted relationship to water. Our mission is to effect positive change in order to shift behavior patterns. We are about inclusion By initiating a participative conversation for social change through art, we seek to inspire the new habits and patterns required to maintain sustainable access to safe water and protect the health of communities. For instance, hand washing with soap at critical moments has the potential to halve the risk of contracting diarrheal diseases. Populations are educated on these safe habits through participative activities, such as artistic learning workshops and multidisciplinary theater shows featuring relevant WASH-related issues. These interactions mobilize entire communities, creating a safe space where all community members can debate through art, and make social exchanges that lead to a collective change for the better. We believe in the power of play A cultural understanding of local communities is essential for the implementation of sustainable projects, because water projects in West Africa, Central America and India cannot be managed in the same way. Through locally inspired art forms, such as theater, painting and circus, participants make emotional connections that influence new patterns of behavior, and create positive change over the long term. This creates the trust and confidence required to adopt new ways of thinking and relating to water.

With the money I ve earned, I can send my children to school. Benedicto, El Salvador We go beyond water access Providing access to safe water is just the beginning. It goes beyond the day-to-day and is a powerful tool of economic development when also used for productive purposes. Access to water for agriculture increases food security and nutritional health, and this benefits the community. One Drop TM s Burkina Faso project connected mango-processing units to the water supply network, which helped improve working conditions and increase productivity. We stimulate growth We inject financial support, creating a ripple effect that leads to sustainable development across the entire community. We achieve this by providing access to micro-credit. Microloans help increase the capacity of individuals and families to develop and grow small businesses, sustain livelihoods and create new jobs. In El Salvador, for instance, many agricultural projects, such as honey farms, poultry farms and family gardens, were created, while other beneficiaries invested in fish farms for tilapia production. In Burkina Faso, a woman used her microloan to double her shea butter production, which enabled her to triple her income. We ensure futures Our goal is to help people across all demographics acquire life skills so they may better understand financial choices and plan for the future. Financial literacy, inclusion and capability with targeted training supporting broad-based local economic development are all essential. After all, people in developing countries face many of the same issues as in developed countries, such as job loss, illnesses and other health problems, as well as worrying about their children s education.
EVERYONE HAS THE RIGHT TO SELF-DETERMINATION. THROUGH ACCESS TO SAFE WATER AND MICROLOANS, FAMILIES CAN BEGIN TO TAKE THE STEPS TO IMAGINING A BRIGHTER FUTURE. water is powerful

THE OUTCOME OUR RESULT-BASED APPROACH DOCUMENTS PROJECT OUTPUTS, OUTCOMES AND OVERALL IMPACT IN TERMS OF SUSTAINABLE ACCESS TO WATER, SANITATION, HYGIENE AND SOCIAL CHANGE. Monitor, Evaluate and Learn Our result-based approach documents project outputs, outcomes and overall impact in terms of sustainable access to water, sanitation, hygiene and change in knowledge, attitudes and practices at individual and collective levels. We combine experience and knowledge Thanks to the integrated MEL System (Monitor, Evaluate, Learn), we can measure the performance and quality of our A B C for Sustainability TM approach. This result-based system features a multi-layered approach project, program, strategic levels and documents the outcomes of interventions. This way, we can have a clear picture of the impact they have with respect to access to water and social change. Here s how it works : Monitor Allow processes, results and experiences to be documented through real-time data collection and used as a basis to steer decision-making and learning processes. Evaluate Conduct systematic evaluations, acknowledge accomplishments and make recommendations for improvement. Learn Support continuous improvement, reflect on success and how challenges can be overcome to increase transferability. We continuously improve MEL results help us integrate our key learnings into future projects. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) are defined for each project and independent studies are conducted two years after their completion. With respect to our A B C for Sustainability TM approach, it helps us stay informed on the level of sustainability of our projects in all the countries in which we operate. We seek proven methods We are always on the lookout for innovative partners that offer technological advancements in measurement tools. Our partners help us continually improve our reporting. Our latest partnership with AVKO enables us to measure and track in-field progress in real time, and also opens discussions to new ways of collaborating.
ONE DROP S projects the criteria Mexico haiti mali upcoming projects ongoing projects completed projects WE VE DETERMINED CLEAR CRITERIA TO IDENTIFY WHERE WE CAN MAKE THE MOST DIFFERENCE WHEN IT COMES TO SUSTAINABILITY. Significant impact The ability to ensure that we will have a significant positive impact on improved access to water and sanitation is key, since it is at the heart of our mission. Equally essential is that all main stakeholders demonstrate their willingness to actively participate in the process to make it a sustainable endeavor. An organized civil society The civil society must be sufficiently organized to take on a leadership role in the implementation of the project and provide the required follow-up to guarantee its sustainability. Good local governance A stable political and social context is an essential prerequisite for undertaking any action in favor of development. A successful project requires a democratic political context where it is possible to engage in constructive dialogue with civil society, and allow the population to take an active role in its implementation. odisha guatemala el salvador honduras nicaragua burkina faso india SHEOHAR

THE questions IF YOU ARE THINKING OF GIVING TO ONE DROP S MISSION, YOU MAY BE WONDERING ABOUT A FEW THINGS. Why donate to One Drop? Because we are not just seeking a quick fix; we are seeking to build sustainability through self-sufficiency, healthier communities and substantial poverty reduction around the world. What s so different about One Drop? We are forward-thinkers with an entrepreneurial approach. We believe in behavioral change as the key to sustained change and an overall sense of community well-being through social arts and our unique model: A B C for Sustainability TM. So what happens when I make a donation? Thanks to our intervention partners, any investment you make in a One Drop project will be matched or will attract additional contributions from other organizations, creating impact on a much greater scale. How much of my donation goes to actual projects? 88 cents of every dollar donated go directly to projects, with only 12 cents channeled to administration (finance, office and equipment costs). Why water? What makes it a fundamental critical issue? Water is at the very basis of a problem pyramid for millions worldwide. By addressing safe, sustainable water, we generate a ripple effect of true positive sustainable change. How much of a donation can make a difference? All donations make a difference. We have found that with an average donation of $100, One Drop can significantly and sustainably transform the life of one individual.
We create bold partnerships. We bring together creativity and entrepreneurship. We believe in positive, transformative and measurable change. We succeed by generating significant, life-enhancing results. We need you to join us. Harness the power of water today. Be a part of a more sustainable future for all.
