4 Biographies Professor Elizabeth Murray (Keynote speaker) UCL ehealth Unit, Head of Research Department of Primary Care and Population Health, University College London Elizabeth Murray is a GP, Professor of ehealth and Primary Care, and Head of the Research Department of Primary Care and Population Health at University College London, UK. Following a US Harkness Fellowship in Health Care Policy she was awarded a Career Scientist Award from the UK Department of Health. She established the UCL ehealth Unit in 2003, and remains Co- Director of the Unit, which grew rapidly to be one of the largest, most-respected multi-disciplinary research groups in the field of ehealth in the UK. The Unit has three workstreams: developing and evaluating digital health interventions; implementation of digital health interventions into routine care; and the impact of digital health on health care professional patient interactions. Elizabeth s grant income for the past 5 years is around GBP 16 million, and she has over 150 publications. She has set up and is Managing Director of a not-for-profit Community Interest Company, HeLP Digital, which exists to disseminate evidence-based digital health interventions developed at UCL across the NHS and internationally. Professor Catherine Pope (Panel discussant) Professor of Medical Sociology, & Deputy Director, NIHR CLAHRC Wessex University of Southampton Catherine is a sociologist/health services researcher interested in improving health care and services. She leads Emergency and Urgent Care research in Health Sciences, and is Deputy Director of the NIHR CLAHRC Wessex. She is also a member of the Web Science Institute at Southampton where she has pioneered a socio-technical approach to understanding the Web through her role in the Web Science Centre for Doctoral Training. Her recent work in the digital space includes studies of the everyday use of computer decision support systems in urgent and emergency care, and explorations of the semantic web and social media. Professor Neil J Sebire (Panel discussant) Professor of Pathology and Chief Research Information Officer Having originally trained in obstetrics and gynaecology and fetal medicine, I then trained in diagnostic pathology with the specific aim of specialising in paediatric and perinatal pathology, of which I am now the Professor at Great Ormond Street Hospital. I am a clinical academic, having always been interested in the value of large datasets, and with research interests including complications of pregnancy and placentation, stillbirth and infant death. More recently I am the chief research information officer at Great Ormond Street Hospital, and I lead the digital research, informatics and virtual environment unit (DRIVE) and clinical Informatics research programme. I am a founding fellow of the joint Royal College Faculty of Clinical Informatics. Mr Simon Dixon (Showcase speaker) Head of Digital Strategy and Service Design, Public Health England Simon Dixon started at Public Health England in April Before this, he led on national digital and service design projects at NHS England, including redevelopments of NHS Choices, the NHS.UK alpha digital transformation project and the development of the NHS app assessment process. He started

5 his career as a support assistant in a mental health team before they discovered he could draw pretty pictures and make websites. Since then he has worked his way up from local organisations to national bodies and has always focused on making things better for people; not just digital. Title: Digital strategy in public health and the NHS Abstract: TBC Miss Molly Watt (Showcase speaker) Accessibility and usability consultant. Keynote speaker and author of two anti- bullying children s books. (Molly Watt Ltd) Molly is 23 years old and registered DeafBlind. She founded her own company 2 years ago with the help of her family where she consults worldwide on Accessibility & Usability in the world of technology and design. Her passions lie in creating an all round inclusive end user experience for everybody in society. Her energy for this derive from her life experiences living with Usher syndrome. Molly also spearheads The Molly Watt Trust to support others living with Usher syndrome, where they fundraise for assistive technology to enhance the lives of those with dual sensory impairments. Title: Thinking Inclusive Abstract: Molly will touch on her own experiences living with Usher syndrome and how she overcomes Accessibility issues with the use of assistive technology. How Accessibility begins with a mindset that adopts inclusion rather than stereotypes that currently surround Accessibility. Dr Kerstin Sailer (Showcase speaker) Reader in Social and Spatial Networks Bartlett School of Architecture, UCL Kerstin Sailer is Reader in Social and Spatial Networks at the Space Syntax Laboratory at UCL's Bartlett School of Architecture. In her research Kerstin investigates the impact of spatial design on behaviours inside a range of buildings such as offices, laboratories, hospitals and schools. Her research interests combine complex buildings, workplace environments and space usage with social networks, organisational theory and organisational behaviour. Her interest in digital health lies in the crossover between physical and digital spaces and how they mediate the perceptions, behaviours and interactions of people in healthcare settings. Title: Digital Health and Architecture: Bringing physical space back in Abstract: With exciting developments in digital technologies around healthcare, it is easy to forget that humans interacting with digital health systems are also embedded in physical space. The way the built environment is structured has a profound impact on how people behave: where we move, who we meet, who we interact with and how we perceive the world around us. Based on space syntax as architectural research theory and method, this talk will highlight the potential crossovers between architecture and digital health. Examples from previous research in hospital environments will be presented that illustrate how digital health interactions of patients are embedded in their spatial experience. The relationships between patients and healthcare workers, but also among healthcare workers are of interest as well, since hospital buildings can be argued to orchestrate interfaces between user groups. The talk will close with a sketch of future research opportunities bringing physical space back into the discussion of (digital) healthcare.

6 Iain McKinnon (Showcase speaker) Director of Inclusive Design, Global Disability Innovation Hub Project Sponsor: Inclusive Design, Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, London, UK Iain is co-founder and Director of Inclusive Design for the Global Disability Innovation Hub (GDI Hub) and the Inclusive Design lead for London Legacy Development Corporation (LLDC) responsible for Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. A member of the UK s National Register of Access Consultants (NRAC), Iain has experience providing inclusive design advice on a vast range of projects; from complex masterplans, new and existing buildings, products right through to the operational aspects of venues and live events; often forging creative and innovative solutions. Having spent his entire career to date in this area, part of Iain s work with the GDI Hub is to help change the way all designers including; architects, urban, product, service, digital, fashion, graphic designers view and approach design for people. Iain is a strong advocate for embracing and mainstreaming the needs of disabled people and older people to help deliver far richer end results that ultimately benefit all of us throughout our lives Title: The Importance of Inclusive Design Abstract: Inclusive design ensures the end user is central to the development of the end product, be that a service, policy, product or digital interface. In the development of high quality digital healthcare, it will be important to ensure that people are not forgotten in the tech journey. Applying an inclusive design approach will help ensure that even the newest and most radical digital technologies still have people/end users at its heart and are harnessed in a way that is intuitive, easy and enjoyable to use. Inclusive design will help enhance the user experience and make it an equally positive user experience regardless of age or ability. Coming from outside the NHS, Iain will bring a universal design approach that aims to bring added benefits to both existing and evolving patientfacing digital health solutions.
