Dr. Anthony Chang Chief Intelligence and Innovation Officer CHILDREN S HOSPITAL OF ORANGE COUNTY 10:50 11:15 General Session: The Seven Deadly Sins of AI Predictions Applied to Healthcare Hysteria sometimes surrounds the discussions of the future of AI. From Elon Musk to Bill Gates to Stephen Hawking, many leaders have grave concerns about how AI can destroy humanity. Robotics pioneer and former Director of Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence, Rodney Brooks, recently penned a great response to this hysteria in MIT Technology Review outlining Seven Deadly Sins to avoid when making AI predictions. We will explore each of these deadly sins as applied to predicting the future of AI more specifically in healthcare. Further we will explore how to consider this framework strategically as a competitive advantage. Dr. Rowland Todd Stewart VP Clinical Integrated Solutions MERCY HEALTH SYSTEMS 11:15 11:45 Topic TBD Speaker TBA [Reserved] 11:45 12:15 General Session: Bridging the Health Data Divide With advances in artificial intelligence, are we on the cusp of a datadriven learning health system? Not yet, it would seem. In medicine, the massive troves of data needed to pour into machine learning algorithms are difficult to find and access. For the development of machine learningbased approaches to care, data must first be properly archived, integrated across data sources and shared for reuse. Most hospitals have a long way to go in this regard. Data is still treated as a currency for clinical researchers to build careers, harming efforts to combine data to an extent that can fuel progress. But the most daunting challenge, as with most complex problems of our time, is the lack of collaboration across the key players who represent the disciplines and who continue to work in their own silos. Greater emphasis on collaboration outside the traditional multidisciplinary realm and into the engineering, mathematical, and computer sciences will help us to create the right environment for a move towards a true data revolution in healthcare. Leo Anthony Celi Principal Research Scientist MASSACHUSETTS INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY 12:15 1:30 STARTUP SHOWCASE LUNCHEON Grab some lunch and then meet us back in Harvard Hall at 12:30 for our exciting, fast-paced startup showcase. 4 Track A 1:30 2:00 USE CASE: Deep Learning for Improved Patient Engagement Deep learning has emerged as the preferred approach for developing AI systems when dealing with limited or no annotated corpora. Aside from the success of deep learning techniques in addressing typical natural language processing tasks, integrating memory and attention in neural networks while leveraging relevant knowledge sources yields results that often outperform various state-of-theart models. This session focuses on the implementation of different neural network architectures to address salient healthcare-related tasks like pharmacovigilance, question-answering and paraphrasing. Dr. Oladimeji Farri, Principal Scientist, Artificial Intelligence Lab PHILIPS RESEARCH Track B Regulatory and Legal Challenges for AI in Healthcare The session will cover the following key regulatory and legal challenges for AI in healthcare: Validation standards: establishing clinical evidence Understanding exceptions, e.g., the 21st century Cures Act and others Key issues specific to AI in 501k clearance FDA concerns with cybersecurity and patient safety Who s liable if something goes wrong? Establishing evidence-based results to head off liability issues Potential implications of poor coding or algorithm bias Machines learning from machines; the implications Patient safety and health information security risks Jodi Daniels, Founder RED CLOVER ADVISORS 2:00 2:50 PRACTITIONERS ROUNDTABLE: Embracing a Paradox Using AI to Bring the Human Element Back to Healthcare While some are concerned that the use of AI in healthcare will create more distance between clinicians and their patients, AI can in fact help with many of the administrative and diagnostic burdens doctors and nurses are facing today, allowing them, paradoxically, to instead focus on the uniquely human elements of patient care. In this session you ll learn about clinical applications of AI particularly around EMRs, data-mining, and imaging/diagnostics being pioneered in hospitals and health systems and how they re helping improve the doctor/patient relationship. TBA Dr. Anthony Chang, Chief Intelligence and Innovation Officer CHILDREN S HOSPITAL OF ORANGE COUNTY Ray Wolf, CEO DIGITAL CYBER LLC Dr. Andrew Beam, Ph.D./Faculty, Department of Biomedical Informatics HARVARD MEDICAL SCHOOL Dr. Oladimeji Farri, Principal Scientist, Artificial Intelligence Lab PHILIPS RESEARCH EXECUTIVE ROUNDTABLE: Integration & Interoperability Challenges for AI in Healthcare Intended both for developers and healthcare decisionmakers alike, this in-depth panel will cover the logistical issues surrounding the integration of new datasets & AI tools & solutions into existing systems & infrastructures within hospitals, clinics, and health networks. Standardized guidelines are dependent on an evidence base that is surprisingly weak in the field of critical care considering the amount of data generated in the ICU. We argue that the largest barrier to progress in these fields is the lack of publicly available research data. The Medical Information Mart for Intensive Care (MIMIC) is one such publicly available resource which is the source of over 50 publications a year. Integrating new data sources into MIMIC would broaden its impact, but is complicated but custom database architectures and vocabularies present at many hospitals. In this talk, we will discuss the process of releasing sensitive medical data to the public in a safe and secure way, the opportunities that data sharing provides, and the challenges in scaling this process up to multiple international institutions.
