3 Introduction Equipment is placed downhole in the completion string Typically pieces of equipment are casing, tubing, sucker rods, rod pumps and gas lift valves These pieces of equipment fail over time common causes are moving parts getting stuck, corrosion, parting and wear The type of equipment, equipment materials used and the well environment greatly affects how long the well will operate without failure A failure not only incurs costs, but shuts the well in and production is lost. 3
