1 Knoxville, TN WE SAVE LIVES A Leader in Mobility Safety EMPLOYEE NEWSLETTER Welcome 2017! Our newsletter is intended to communicate across our team the many challenges and opportunities presented to us as individuals or groups in the operation of our plant and our team s responses and successes as measured against those challenges and opportunities. We will emphasize achievements against core programs such as 5S, the foundation of world class manufacturing or highlight individual accomplishments and actions in line with our core values. This is your newsletter, open to change and accepting input from all employees. If you have input, questions or would like to offer suggestions for improvement please send them to Caroline Testerman. Again, I thank the team of Caroline, Mitzi, Shannon, Betty and Marci for their creative work, and look forward to celebration of our teams accomplishments in Mike James KSS Plant Manager 100 Years of Pioneering Safety KSS has a long history of innovation and industry leadership dating back to 1916, when our original founder produced handcrafted steering wheels for Ford Motor Company s Model T. We are still driven by the same pioneering spirit as our founders, and we honor their legacy by supplying safety systems for more than 300 vehicle models made by the world s largest automakers. What began as a single factory line serving Detroit automakers has grown to become a global company with employees doing business in 14 countries on four continents. Today, with this poster, set to each one of our facilities around the world, we want to recognize and remember that all we do serves the same purpose of saving lives. I know I can count on you, your skills and your enthusiasm to continue the venture of pioneering safety. On the never finishing road to continuous improvement, I believe we are on the good path and, with you; I look forward to accomplishing even more in our next one-hundred years! Jason Luo President and CEO 1
2 Recycling - Do Your Part Recycling is an easy way to do your part in helping the environment and your neighbors. Often times, people do not recycle because they do not know what is recyclable or where/how to recycle it. It is vital to be educated in order to recycle properly and efficiently. Recycling is also important to meeting our environment goals for ISO Certification. How to Recycle: 1. Determine whether the material is paper, plastic, aluminum, or glass 2. Locate the triangle on the product 3. Dispose of object in designated bin Facts Despite only representing 5% of the world population, the U.S. generates more waste than any other country in the world In less than 15 years, worldwide waste is expected to double Americans throw away enough office paper each year to build a 12 foot high wall from Seattle to NY Americans throw away 2.5 million plastic bottles every hour What to Recycle: Plastics Soda bottles Milk jugs Shampoo bottles Plastic grocery bags Metals Soda cans Soup cans Aluminum foil Bakeware Paper / Cardboard Office paper Magazines Newspaper Cardboard Glass Green Clear Brown Recycling 1 ton of cardboard saves 46 gallons of oil Using recycled glass uses 40% less energy than making products from all new materials Americans throw away about 28 billion bottles and jars every year It takes between 400 and 500 years for a Styrofoam cup to decompose Where to Recycle: Designated plant bins (see map on page 3) Find a Waste Management drop-off recycling facility near you! Curb-side pick up in the city limits 2

6 5s - Get Involved What is 5s? 5s is a plant wide organizational approach program that engages people through the use of Standards and Discipline. The ultimate goal of this program is to form a solid foundation upon which to build continuous improvement. The document below is the grading system used in 5s area audits. Each month an auditor will inspect the 5s areas in the plant and look for the requirements designated below. The total will be tallied and entered into a database in order to track month to month progress. 6
7 5s Area Champions What does being an Area Champion mean? Being the 5s Area Champion does not mean that you have to do the work required in the area, but it does mean that you are responsible for the 5s score for the area. As the Area Champion your responsibility is to drive the culture change to support outstanding 5s practices. When the new audits are posted, you will be required to review the audit sheet and add items to the 5s To- Do List (Actions area of the board). Please assign an individual responsible for the task and an expected completion date. Then as part of your daily audit, verify actions are on track and the daily cleaning checklist is being completed. Do you want to be an Area Champion or get more involved with 5s activities around the plant? If so, contact Marci Lubs for more information! Get involved, get informed, and take ownership! 8 Construction at KSS As you know, KSS Knoxville will be making many changes in One of those changes includes welcoming new Waterjet looms to increase our capacity over the next few years. This year we will install up to 18 Toyota Water Jet 280 cm Looms and a Re-beamer to support the larger beams. This project will involve a significant upgrade to our facility to support this growth over the next 3 years. We received the initial loom last year and are using it to produce material for validation trials. We will receive 5 more looms in April and more throughout the year. These Waterjet looms will be located in what is now the current red tag area. This addition will allow us to expand our physical capacity to produce more product at a much more efficient rate. Although currently under construction and preparation, this area will be progressing rapidly. Please see the diagram below for the future floor plan and other layout details. Stay tuned for more information on this project. Change is coming to KSS, and to that we say WELCOME! 8
