The overall powertrain setting is more complex than ever before. Today, it is already no longer possible to view the development of internal combustion engine, electric motor and transmission separately from each other. In some cases, clever combinations can lead to completely new development directions. But how can we be confident of designing our engines and trans - missions correctly in future, given this new situation? And what does increasing complexity mean for our future development processes? Will we become slower because of the complex decisions with more comprehensive validation and homologation requirements? Or will the use of new technologies in development make us faster in future?
