2 CHANGES IN THE RULES General This booklet is a reprint of the previous edition and apart from clarifications of text and the inclusion of amendments and corrections, published in the July 2002 edition of Pt.0 Ch.1 Sec.3, no other changes have been made. This chapter is valid until superseded by a revised chapter. Supplements will not be issued except for an updated list of minor amendments and corrections presented in Pt.0 Ch.1 Sec.3. Pt.0 Ch.1 is normally revised in January and July each year. Revised chapters will be forwarded to all subscribers to the rules. Buyers of reprints are advised to check the updated list of rule chapters printed in Pt.0 Ch.1 Sec.1 to ensure that the chapter is current. However, the compensation shall not exceed an amount equal to ten times the fee charged for the service in question, provided that the maximum compensation shall never exceed USD 2 million. In this provision "Det Norske Veritas" shall mean the Foundation Det Norske Veritas as well as all its subsidiaries, directors, officers, employees, agents and any other acting on behalf of Det Norske Veritas.

General A 100 NAUTICUS notations 101 General provisions governing the assignment of the NAUTICUS class notations, with appropriate additional notations, are stated in Pt.1 Ch.1 Sec.2 B For the notation NAUTICUS(Operation), no additional requirements are specified in this chapter. B. Definitions B 100 Product model 101 The term product model refers to the principle of collecting relevant information pertaining to classification about a product over its life cycle and to link this information directly to the product in a computer model. The product model includes the ship structure and essential equipment for which an involvement by the Society has been defined. B D graphic model 201 The 3-D graphical model is part of the product model and consists of a three dimensional view of the entire hull structure and associated features. Other relevant elements of information are linked to this model. B 300 Software tools and features 301 Software tools are computer programs designed to perform specific tasks. Selected tools are accessible to the owner for vessels with NAUTICUS class notations. 302 Software feature is a common description of the data handling capabilities and characteristics associated with the various software tools accessible through NAUTICUS. 303 NAUTICUS is the registered trade name of the software applications associated with the Society's product model technology. B 400 DNV Exchange 401 DNV Exchange is the user interface software, which provides the user with access to relevant parts of the product model.

Applicability A 100 Application of the rules 101 The NAUTICUS class notations define a degree of exchange between the owner and the Society of data and information stored in the product model. At his own discretion, the owner may also allow other authorised users direct access to the product model. 102 The NAUTICUS class notations apply to the ship in the operation phase. The notation may be assigned at any stage of the ship's life provided the data and information needed to establish a product model and 3-D graphic model for the ship is available. A 200 Storage and retrieval of data 201 Data related to the condition of the ship are stored in the product model by the Society. The product model is updated upon completion of a periodical survey or upon receipt of other service experience that may be relevant for the ship. 202 Retrieval of product model data may be arranged through DNV Exchange.

Establishment of Product Model A 100 General 101 It is the responsibility of the Society to establish and maintain the product model. 102 It is the owner's responsibility to supply the necessary data and information needed to establish the product model. A 200 Necessary data 201 The data and information needed in order to establish the product model corresponds to that needed in order to assign main class 1A1 and relevant additional class notations. A 300 Confidentiality 301 Product model data for individual ships is of a confidential nature and will not to be passed on to a third party without the owners written consent, except as provided in Pt.1 Ch.1 Sec.1 B600.

IT Maintenance A 100 Maintenance of IT standard 101 In the event that the owner agrees to purchase and use DNV Exchange then the responsibility for maintaining the minimum IT standard, as defined by the Society, in support of DNV Exchange, is shown in Table A It is the Society's responsibility to maintain and update the software packages supplied by the Society. A 200 Maintenance of product model 201 It is the Society's responsibility to maintain and update the product model based on survey results, damage reports and receipt of other relevant information applicable to the ship. 202 It is the owner's responsibility to supply data needed by the Society for maintenance of the product model. 203 Changes to the ship or installed equipment may necessitate changes to the product model. Such changes to the product model will be effected by the Society.
