2 SCIENCE AND RESEARCH OFFICE Science and Research Office consists of: Department for Doctoral Studies Group of Information and Marketing Science and Research Office organize doctoral studies, provides consultations on proposals and execution of various international and national research programs, intellectual property protection, patents. In 2014 November Knowledge and Technology Transfer Office was established.

17 PhD Studies The Doctor s degree is conferred in the following fields of research: Technological sciences: Electronics and electrical engineering; Civil engineering; Transport engineering; Environmental engineering and landscape management; Power and thermal engineering; Information engineering; Mechanical engineering; Materials engineering; Measurement engineering; Chemical engineering (biotechnology). Humanities Arts (sculpture and architecture); Physical sciences Physics (condensed materials), mathematics; Social sciences: Economics; Administration and management.

18 PhD Studies In 2011 new right of PhD preparation has to be obtained. Under this new regulation at this moment VGTU alone or together with other academic and research institutions have been granted license to organize doctoral studies in 10 fields of science. A PhD programme corresponds to 4 years studies (full-time mode) and 6 years studies (part-time mode). There is opportunity to defend a doctoral dissertation externally. In each field PhD studies are organized under certain approved Doctoral Training Regulation. Requirements varies from field to field. Žin., 2011, Nr ; Žin., 2012, Nr ; TAR., 2014, Nr

19 PhD Studies Doctoral studies for foreign students are usually not for free. However, this year, the university is considering a possibility to institute several PhD places, financed by the state budget of the Republic of Lithuania, for foreign students gaining high qualifications for the admission procedure. A document certifying the assessment of academic qualification acquired abroad issued by the Centre for Quality Assessment in Higher Education is required. Admission fees per year: full time mode 8227 Euro, part time mode 5485 Euro.
