5 Today we are a modern nation built on the integrity of our people, forging our own independent way in the world. We are a country charged with the guardianship of our environment, for the future, on behalf of those who came before us. We are a country built on ingenuity, poised to disrupt big paradigms from the edge of the world.

6 But we are also a country that cannot prosper by simply selling to itself. With commodities still at our core, we must seek more ways to diversify and enhance the value of our goods and services globally, and to attract smart investments that are good for New Zealand.

7 And that s why we re here at NZTE, to be part of something that s bigger than ourselves. We re here to grow companies internationally bigger, better, faster for the good of New Zealand.

8 NZTE is 600 people (and a network of thousands more). We are based in 50 locations, working across 24 time zones and 40 languages, servicing 5,000 companies in 100 countries.

9 This global presence allows us to deliver value to our customers. We call this our Know-How and Know-Who

10 Our Know-How is our collective insight, wisdom and experience of growing companies internationally.

11 Our Know-Who is the network of committed people in New Zealand and around the world who we can call upon in our customers interests.

12 This Know-How and Know-Who is also characterised in our Māori name: Te Taurapa Tūhono

13 Te Taurapa is the stern post on the back of the traditional Māori waka, or canoe, and helps to stabilise and guide the boat. Tūhono is a term that represents connections to people and an ability to build relationships. Te Taurapa Tūhono Together, these terms serve as a reminder of what we do as an organisation, that in order for us to help guide New Zealand business, our contribution is to provide know-how and know-who.

14 Sometimes we guide New Zealand business using The Customer Way We work with ambitious, value-adding and knowledge-intensive companies who are scaling globally from New Zealand. Success is growing the international revenue of our F700 customers by 6% above the export benchmark by 2021.

15 And sometimes our way of working follows The Investment Way We attract smart growth capital and match this against New Zealand investment opportunities, and help customers get investment ready. Success is attracting $3 billion in potential direct economic impact (pdei) by 2021 from investment deals that are good for New Zealand.

16 But either way, it s about the people. People matter. And how we work together matters too.

17 Because our know-how and know-who will benefit no one unless we all operate as ONE GLOBAL TEAM

18 Yes, we are literally hundreds of people and teams positioned around the world, with the unique ability to organise around customer growth opportunities at the right time, with the right people, with the right resources.

19 But we know that we can only provide optimal value to our customers if we have alignment on the way we work and the characters that we share. We know that, to really make our global team work, we need to focus on five characters.
