He mixed metal powder with polymers and ceramic to create the first light weight metal composite. Roger moved to Vermont in 1991 and began developing a process to cast decorative tile with a small group of 5 artisans. Today Questech employs over 65 people in Rutland, Vermont, in a 75,000 square foot facility with a view of Killington Mountain. Questech has over 1000 different designs available in a wide variety of metals and finishes. Each original design is hand made by artists and model makers using techniques that have been developed over the 20 year history of the company. Our products are then cast in molds, using ingredients also manufactured in the USA. We are very proud of the products we make, the people we employ and the country we live in. ABOUT THE FOUNDER: ROGER QUESTEL INVENTOR AWARD-WINNING CAST METAL INNOVATION SCULPTOR AND DESIGNER Roger Questel is a Parson's School of Design Graduate with a degree in Environmental and Product Design. As a noted designer and an accomplished wood sculptor, Roger was sought after for the exceptional beauty of his work. Roger has been commissioned by many renowned clients including Orson Wells, Ralph Lauren, Gordon Getty and Carly Simon. In 1990, while seeking to cast his sculptures in bronze, Roger invented a lightweight and affordable metal composite material. Questech Metal, took on a life of its own when Roger patented his innovation and founded Questech Corporation. In 1991, the Smithsonian Institute inducted Questech Metal into its permanent collection of innovative materials at the Cooper-Hewitt National Museum of Design. CUTTING INSTRUCTIONS + SAFETY Be sure to wear appropriate eye protection and an approved dust respirator when cutting, grinding or drilling tiles. The tiles are best cut or mitered with a diamond abrasive wet-saw. Tiles can be drilled with a high-speed drill or a hole saw. Tiles can also be cut or drilled with a rotary saw (ex. Roto Zip, Dremel). Do NOT use tile cutters designed to score and break tiles. SETTING MATERIALS Thin-Set: A liquid latex (polymer) fortified premium thin-set Portland cement mortar conforming to ANSI A118.4. Epoxy Adhesives: A water-cleanable epoxy mortar conforming to ANSI A118.3. Continue wall installation around the accessory, noting that the accessory s back should overlap the wall tile. Tape accessory into place until adhesive bonds. Use double-sided tape squares provided and place on the 4 specified areas on the back of accessory remove paper tabs before installing. Dry-test fit the accessory and observe corners for a uniform fit; if a gap is seen due to an "out-of-square" wall, add additional tape squares to the low point. Following the adhesive manufacturer s instructions, apply adhesive along the guideline on back edges of the accessory Carefully align the accessory and press into place. Hold firmly to achieve the initial bond of the tape. Optional: Once adhesive is applied and the accessory is positioned, it can be supported until the adhesive sets up sufficiently to form a final bond. Once fully cured, thoroughly caulk around the perimeter of the accessory to seal out water. Q-Seal is factory-applied and never needs re-sealing. Stone or grout sealer inadvertently applied to the surface cannot penetrate or adversely affect Q-Seal. Simply wipe excess sealer off the tile.
