What are BoltShield protection caps? BoltShield caps are screw-on metal caps designed to protect bolts and nuts from thread damage and dirt, and to considerably help prevent rust and corrosion. BoltShield metal protection caps have a special internal female thread, named Screw-On System, that ensures a strong and secure fixing to the bolt by matching the bolt thread (see How it Works). BoltShield are designed to be installed manually; no extra tools are required, and they can be easily installed and removed when needed. We offer two types of BoltShield caps with different levels of protection, as the first type covers either the exposed part of the bolt thread and the nut, while the second type protects the bolt thread only. Both types of caps are available in ALUMINIUM, STAINLESS STEEL and CARBON STEEL, are suitable for coating and can be supplied for bolt sizes ranging from ½ to 6, M16 to M100 (UN/metric thread).
Features: Caps that protect bolts and nuts from thread damage, dirt and corrosion; Special internal thread, named SCREW-ON SYSTEM, that ensures a strong and secure fixing to the bolt; Two types of caps available: TYPE TD caps cover both the exposed bolt threads and the nut, TYPE TR caps cover just the exposed part of the bolt thread; Both types can be supplied for bolt sizes ranging from Ø ½ - 6 / M16 - M100; All caps are available for both imperial and metric thread sizes - Any alteration or non-standard sizes are also available upon request; Materials available: STAINLESS STEEL (304, 316L) / ALUMINIUM / CARBON STEEL (suitable for coating) Rated for temperatures up 550 c and over. Where are they used? Oil & Gas Refineries and oil rigs Petrochemical Process equipment Wind energy Pipeline flanges Mechanical engineering Steel construction Street signs Mining equipment Maintenance Plant construction Fasteners manufacturer ASTM B-117 CORROSION TEST WHAT A DIFFERENCE! TYPE TD Bolt & Nut Protection Caps Available in: ALUMINIUM up to 4 M100 STAINLESS STEEL up to 2 M52 CARBON STEEL up to 4 M100 BoltShield caps TYPE TD offer the best protection, as they cover both the exposed part of the bolt (size HT of the chart) and the nut (size HD). We offer our customers standard sizes, which are those indicated in the chart, ranging from ½ to 4, M16 to M100, according to the material required. Additional larger sizes and non-standard ones can be custom made upon request
TYPE TR Bolt Protection Caps Available in: ALUMINIUM p to 6 M100 STAINLESS STEEL p to 2 1/2 M64 CARBON STEEL p to 4 M100 This type of protective caps for bolts, also commonly referred to as thread protector caps or simply bolt caps, is designed to protect only the exposed part of the bolt thread (size HT of the chart below). BoltShield caps TYPE TR do not cover the nut, which remains exposed. We offer our customers standard sizes, which are those indicated in the chart, ranging from ½ to 6, M16 to M100, according to the material required. Additional larger sizes and non-standard ones can be custom made upon request.
Why use BoltShield protection caps There are two main reasons for using our caps: 1) MECHANICAL PROTECTION: BoltShield caps protect bolts from accidental thread damage that may occur during handling, transportation and maintenance. 2) CORROSION PREVENTION: BoltShield caps considerably help preventing rust and corrosion on bolts and nuts by covering and sealing them. The mechanical protection and the corrosion prevention properties provided BoltShield caps translate into easier and faster maintenance. Why? Because the bolt threads won t suffer any damage and will be protected from dirt and corrosion, which would obviously lead to serious problems when performing maintenance and repair. Think of the inconvenience and the waste of time that a rusted bolt may cause during repair, and multiply it by the number of unprotected bolts that you have in your assets: needless to remark how annoying that would be. By using BoltShield protection caps you will make maintenance and repair much easier and faster, and this will help to considerably REDUCE EXPENSIVE PLANT DOWNTIMES, thus saving money and time. Finally, BoltShield caps help improve SA FETY on the job site.
Why are BoltShield protection caps cost-effective? BoltShield caps are cost-effective not only because they help reducing the cost of maintenance and plant downtimes, but also because their use will prominently extend the life of your bolts and nuts, and you won t have to replace them that often. BoltShield caps are reusable and once tightly fixed onto bolts they will last for years. Indeed there are other ways to prevent corrosion, such as coating processes or the purchasing of stainless steel bolts and nuts. However, coating bolts and nuts is quite expensive and may not be enough, as during transportation, handling and assembling the coating may wear out. Recoating, besides being unlikely to be performed, is a waste of time and money. This will result in unprotected bolts and nuts which will soon be affected by corrosion. The use of bolts and nuts in stainless steel to prevent corrosion is definitely a good choice, but in this case costs, availability on stock (especially for stud bolts) and size restrictions have to be taken into account very carefully. Finally, it has to be said that neither coatings nor stainless steel can prevent bolt threads from accidental damage that could compromise the integrity of your bolts. BoltShield protective caps, on the contrary, provide mechanical protection, corrosion prevention and safety at a very cheap price! BoltShield caps are reusable and, once tightly fixed onto the stud bolts, they will last for years.

The S crew-on System BoltShield are designed to be installed manually. These protective caps for bolts have a special internal female thread, named Screw-On System, that ensures a strong and secure fixing to the bolt. No extra tools are required, and the caps can be easily installed and removed when needed. How it works: The pressure marks which you can see in detail in the pictures are made according to the bolt thread pitch required (all UN and metric threads available). These special marks act as a female thread, as they perfectly match the bolt thread. To install BoltShield you only have to screw the cap onto the bolt like a cap on a bottle (see instructions below). Once the lip at the bottom of the BoltShield cap touches the flange (in case of TYPE TD caps) or the surface of the nut (in case of TYPE TR caps), the cap will automatically fix. Tighten with your hands and that s it! Thanks to the Screw-on System, BoltShield caps will remain fixed and withstand high vibrations.
