Module 34 CREATE YOUR FIRST WORKSHOP 2016 Integrative Integrative Nutrition, Nutrition, Inc. Inc.
CREATE YOUR FIRST WORKSHOP Public speaking and, more specifically, delivering your first workshop can be both exhilarating and scary. Some people naturally thrive onstage, while others need to bring some loving care and practice to this area. Public speaking is effective in building your business and your confidence and improving your communication and connection skills. Read on to learn our best practices for creating and delivering your first workshop.
PREPARE FOR YOUR EVENT A huge part of being nervous is feeling unprepared. In addition to preparing the content, you ll want to properly prime yourself physically and mentally. 1 Take time to get clear on your topic and the value you re giving attendees. Sit down ahead of time and prepare an outline based on what your audience wants and needs to hear. Tell them the benefits of a specific food or lifestyle technique and why they should listen to you by sharing an inspiring and relatable story about your own experience with that food or technique. Don t try to cover your whole bag of tools at one event, but give the attendees a little sample of what you offer and dive deep into the subject. Keep it simple, clear, and actionable. You ll get fantastic results for them while still leaving them wanting more and, possibly, wanting to work with you. 2 Improve your energy and mindset to keep you clear and focused before your event. You know what works for you, so make sure you pay extra attention to those areas of self-care leading up to your workshop. Get a good night s sleep, have a great breakfast and your favorite morning drink, and do the practices you know nourish you, like yoga or meditation.
PREPARE YOUR CONTENT FOR DELIVERY The questions you want to ask yourself while preparing your workshop are: What s your intention for this workshop? What s the number one value point you want guests to walk away with? Do you want them to find a newfound love for kale, a new practical tool to increase energy, or a completely different mindset around weight loss? In terms of your business, what is your ultimate goal for this workshop? Do you want to grow your email list by 10%? Do you want to book eight Health Histories? Do you want to inspire three attendees to join you at your next retreat? Choose your intention with care and thought.
After you set clear intentions for your guests and your business, it s time to dive into the content. 1 Brainstorm ideas for content: What do you want to teach participants? What are people always asking you about? What s your specialty? What s your big mission? 2 Write down unfiltered ideas on a piece of paper, review them, and then decide on a topic that would be most beneficial for your audience. 3 Map out three main teaching points for your workshop and list bullets below each one that outline your speaking points. 4 Organize your information in a PowerPoint presentation or on notecards, depending on how you will present this information at the workshop.
DELIVER YOUR CONTENT Introduce yourself and share something to grab guests attention. Review your three main teaching points. Lead a paired share for guests to introduce themselves and discuss their stories. Share your own story. Present the problem your core topic. Describe how they ll feel when they overcome this issue. Guide them in three core ways to fix it. Lead another paired share that fosters community and accountability. Invite everyone to complete a complimentary Health History with you.
THE DAY AFTER THE WORKSHOP Email a thank-you to everyone who attended. Remind them of the incredible benefits they received. If they haven t already signed up, invite them once more for a complimentary Health History consultation. Review the sign-up sheet and/or your calendar for prospective clients. Reach out to them to book sessions. Email the Health History form or direct them to your website if they can fill it out there. Celebrate and treat yourself! Enjoy a hot bath, some champagne or kombucha, dinner with your loved ones, or whatever way you love to celebrate. Love and self-care are crucial to your success, so celebrate yourself, knowing you ve done an awesome job at spreading the ripple effect even further.
