CH_Optra by Keene_NEW 11/1/05 7:42 PM Page 2 Keene MAKES LIGHT WORK The accelerating pace of technology, lifestyles and the expectations for more sophisticated spaces demands that lighting specifiers continually improve functional performance without compromising aesthetics. Issues of night sky preservation, sustainable design and uniform illumination while balancing economics are more important than ever before. While the visual appeal of Keene s new Optra is immediately obvious - a contemporary look that aligns with the tastes of today and the forecasts for tomorrow...optra is more than a celebration of style. With levels of lighting efficiency and uniformity that meet or exceed all comparable outdoor lighting standards, Optra challenges specifiers to re-think traditional concepts of luminaire spacing, light distribution and full cutoff capabilities. The intelligent use of Optra luminaries is an opportunity to demonstrate sophisticated style, precise light control and optimum energy efficiency in one benchmark specification. 2

CH_Optra by Keene_NEW 11/1/05 7:42 PM Page 4 Optra Series The Performance Behind The Beauty Optra s appeal is more than skin deep. Exclusive, Keene technology has created a luminaire that delivers outstanding performance whatever the criteria. Uniform Lighting Performance. Illuminating Engineering Society of North America (IESNA) recommends uniformity ratios of less then 10:1 (maximum light/minimum light). Optra s optics system performs with even illumination, eliminating hot-spots found in conventional lighting systems. The result is greater reach with less glare- far exceeding Illuminating Engineering Society guidelines (ratios of 4:1 are typical). Cost Effective Applications Because Optra luminaires produce more usable light in a large symmetric pattern, you will need fewer luminaires and that means fewer light poles and reduced maintenance costs. This combined with Optra's sleek design results in a very low Effective Projected Area (EPA) and means significant savings on poles, trenching and installation costs. Unparalleled Efficiency With No Tradeoffs Most full cutoff luminaires utilize lower efficiency flat lenses with horizontal lamps that cost more to operate. Optra combines the optimal efficiency of its optics system to provide IESNA full cutoff compliance, reduced energy consumption, as well as unsurpassed photometric performance. Optra accommodates energy efficient Pulse Start Metal Halide light sources and is compatible with Keene Hi/Lo ballast dimming technology. 4
CH_Optra by Keene_NEW 11/1/05 7:42 PM Page 5 74% Fewer Fixtures In Side-By-Side Comparisons Good looks and performance combine to make Optra one of the most energy and maintenance efficient products on the market, with savings that can be measured in dollars and cents. By maximizing control and delivery of all available light from the lamp source, Optra delivers more consistent illumination with up to 74% fewer fixtures. Optra s significantly better illumination also means 10% fewer poles. Conventional System: 10 poles 34-400 watt fixtures (two fixtures on three poles and four fixtures on seven poles) 1564 watts per pole average 15640 total watts Uniformity ratios as high as 30:1 Fewer fixtures and poles translate 3 into a 10% total savings in installation costs. With fewer fixtures and poles, overall maintenance savings are also realized. 1 2 5 6 9 10 But the savings continue. By using Pulse Start lamp and ballast technology, Optra significantly reduces overall energy use, which is a large consideration in these energyconscious times. 4 7 8 Consider the savings in this illustrated application, comparing a conventional horizontal flat glass installation versus the Optra installation. Optra delivers a 38% savings in energy use, yet illuminates more of the required area. Conventional lighting systems require more power and brightness to reach distant areas with sufficient illumination, which increases glare and produces inconsistent lighting. Inefficiencies in both conventional vertical and horizontal lamp technology create the appearance of hot-spots close to the source of illumination. 5

The state of the art optic system significantly reduces glare and the appearance of hot-spots to deliver unsurpassed efficiency, performance and aesthetic appeal. 6
CH_Optra by Keene_NEW 11/1/05 7:42 PM Page 7 Preserving The Night Sky Light pollution and light trespass* are growing concerns in many communities across North America. Optra's sophisticated optics system with a concave lens provides quality, Night Friendly lighting. Designed to eliminate light trespass, misdirected light and uncontrolled glare, Optra maintains security while ensuring neighbouring properties are not inconvenienced. Optra meets IESNA full cutoff compliance. *Light pollution is misdirected light creating sky glow and light trespass is unwanted light that falls beyond the property line or desired area of illumination.
CH_Optra by Keene_NEW 11/1/05 7:42 PM Page 8 Optra Series Quad Optics - Making The Most Of Every Watt Keene engineers challenged every paradigm to create the Optra optical system. The result is Quad Optics - a system that captures, controls and maximizes light energy use - establishing a new standard for light utilization. Four unique components contribute to Optra s outstanding performance: Primary Path Reflector is constructed with 244 facets, carefully positioned so that light leaving the lamp is reflected only once for maximum efficiency and superior lighting control (for fewer fixtures per application). Inverse Conical Lens is shaped to allow more light to pass through for greater efficiency versus conventional flat glass lenses. 8
CH_Optra by Keene_NEW 11/1/05 7:42 PM Page 9 Vertical Lamp Orientation is the optimum lamp position, ensuring that all light emitted is utilized to maximum potential in conjunction with the refractor and reflector. Collimating Refractor focuses lamp light into the main beam for optimal use while masking arc tube glare. This creates more visual comfort, more efficient and uniform illumination with less glare and no hot-spots under the poles. 9
CH_Optra by Keene_NEW 11/1/05 7:42 PM Page 10 Optra Series Mechanicals Make Optra A Lasting Impression Rugged die-cast aluminum housing and stainless steel hardware make Optra more durable than typical outdoor fixtures. The good looks and great performance that Optra delivers can be appreciated for years- by the people using the spaces and especially the maintenance crews that service the fixtures. Here are just a few of the features they will benefit from: Dust tight seals keep contaminants out- lighting efficiency is maintained for longer periods without maintenance- Optra achieves IP65 compliance. Optra s streamlined design has a very low Effective Projected Area (EPA) requiring lighter, less expensive poles (single arm- 1.38 sq. ft; post top- 2.07 sq. ft.) Optra is available in both post top and arm mount configurations. 10
CH_Optra by Keene_NEW 11/1/05 7:43 PM Page 11 Integral ballasts are remote from the optical assembly to promote cooler running and longer life. Access to the ballast and removal is a tool-less operation. Access to the fixture for re-lamping is also tool-less to save maintenance and installation time. Asymmetric optics are externally adjustable for on site manipulation while fixture is on- ensuring precise lighting control and the elimination of light trespass. 11
