Small Things on the Move Quilt (Design 1) Designed and made by Sally Ablett Size: 46 x 55 Block: 8½ x 8½ QUILT 1 FABRIC REQUIREMENTS (Small Things on the Move Collection) Fabric 1: ½yd - ½mtr - SM11.1 (Diggers on grey) Fabric 2: ½yd - ½mtr - SM12.3 (Cars & motorcycles on red) Fabric 3: ½yd - ½mtr - SM13.2 (Planes on light blue) Fabric 4: ½yd - ½mtr - SM14.1 (Trains on white) Fabric 5: ½yd - ½mtr - SM15.3 (Farm vehicles on navy) Fabric 6: 1¼yd - 1¼mtr - BB123 (Studland blue) Fabric 7: ½yd - ½mtr - BB128 (Storm blue) Wadding and backing 50 x 59 Use ¼" seam allowance throughout. CUTTING 1. From each of the fabrics 1, 3, 4 and 5 cut: 15 x 4⅞" x 4⅞" cut in half diagonally once 30 x 2⅜" x 2⅜" 2. From fabric 2 cut: 35 x 1½" x 8½ 3. From fabric 6 cut: 5 x 2½" x 42" for binding 60 x 3⅞" x 3⅞" cut in half diagonally twice 60 x 2⅛" x 2⅛" cut in half diagonally once 42 x 1½" x 1½" 4. From fabric 7 cut: 36 x 1½" x 8½" MAKING UP THE BLOCK All the blocks are made with the same five fabrics Lay out the pieces for the block, it is made up of four smaller blocks Sew the triangles to either side of the square and the last small triangle to the top to make a larger triangle Next sew the two triangles together to make a square. Do this to all four Next sew the four squares together in rows and then the rows together to make the block. Make 30 in total. 1 2 3 4
Block Diagram ASSEMBLY Lay out the blocks as in the main diagram with the sashing strips and squares in between the blocks and on the outside too Sew the rows together, pressing the seams to the right on the first row and the next will be to the left. You will do this all the way down as it will help when sewing the rows together COMPLETION When you have sewn all the rows together you can sandwich the quilt top, wadding and backing together Quilt by hand or machine to a pattern of your liking Trim off excess wadding and backing and square up the quilt ready for the binding Use fabrics 6 strips to bind the quilt Lewis & Irene 2017
