NOTE: Using the Fitting Wizrd will reset ny dt stored in the hering id. c) If you re fitting child under the ge of five nd wnt to use the Peditric Fitting Rtionle, select "Yes", otherwise, select "No". d) Click OK to continue b c d

This ction will red dt from the hering id into Compss nd exit the Fitting Wizrd. Select No if you re progrmming the hering id using udiogrm informtion from NOAH. Using Compss 3 to Progrm the Senso Div Pge 2 9. Client Informtion Window If you re using the Peditric Fitting Rtionle, the Client Informtion Window will open. Compss will use the Peditric Rtionle to djust the gin settings bsed on the child s ge. ) Select the child s ge ctegory b c b) Select trnsducer used for udiogrm thresholds d c) To use individul Rel Er to Coupler Differences, select the RECD button. A window will open to enter the RECD. For this option, insert erphones must be used. Compss will use this informtion in clculting the fitting. d) Answer <Yes> to third question if NOAH udiogrm dt re rel-er thresholds. The defult nswer of "No" is pproprite for most fittings e) Click <Next> to continue 10. Perform Sensogrm ) Select <Tlk-over> to instruct client to respond to the Sensogrm Stimuli. Select <Mute> to begin Sensogrm. b) Select <Auto Tone Activtion> box tone will be presented fter ech intensity chnge. Alterntively, click <Activte Tone> to mnully present tone fter ech intensity djustment. c) Click the Sensogrm HTL box tht b corresponds to the bnd being tested. g d) Click <UP> or <DOWN> rrows to f chnge intensity. UP or DOWN direction keys on keybord cn lso be used to chnge the intensity. e) Use brcketing pproch to determine thresholds t 500, 1000, 2000 nd 4000Hz. f) For steeply sloping or unusul udiogrm configurtions, you my perform the sensogrm in dditionl frequency regions. After completing the bsic Sensogrm, select <Expnded> Sensogrm mode to perform Sensogrm in the frequency regions of interest. Note: It is not necessry to perform the Sensogrm for every Expnded Mode frequency. g) Click <Next> to continue. (For Binurl Fitting, Fitting Wizrd will continue to Left Sensogrm. Then Fitting Wizrd will proceed to Feedbck Test.)

Pge 3 11. Perform Feedbck Test The Feedbck Test clcultes the usble gin in the instrument given the fit of the ermold or hering id shell. The lowest usble gin vilble within frequency region is reported s the Avilble Gin. The minimum gin for converstionl input cross b ll the frequency bnds within frequency region is reported s the Minimum Gin (MIN). If Avilble Gin vlues re lower thn the Minimum required (MIN) gin, i.e., not pproprite, gin for converstionl speech inputs my be compromised. c ) Perform Feedbck Test in quiet environment; the color red, which indictes the presence of noise, should not pper in the noise indictor brs to the right. b) Click <Tlk Over> nd instruct client Plese open your mouth slightly nd remin quiet. A series of sounds will be presented. c) Click <Strt Test> to begin. A series of comments will pper: (1) "Checking d Noise Level;" (2) "Initilizing the DCO system;" nd (3) "Initilizing the FPS e f System." d) Results of the feedbck test should indicte OK directly under the test frequencies. If sterisks pper (***), confirm tht the hering id model is pproprite for the degree of hering loss nd/or consider ermold/shell modifictions. If necessry, repet Feedbck Test by clicking <Strt Test>. e) For Binurl Fitting, click Next to perform Feedbck Test for left er. f) If you re fitting custom id or BTE, click Next to move to the Progrm Selection window. (Note: The CIC model hs the M Mode only.) 12. Select the desired progrm combintion. The defult setting for Listening Progrm is the Microphone progrm (M). Up to 4 progrms re vilble including M (Microphone), M/T (Microphone nd Telecoil), T (Telecoil), nd Mus (Music Progrm). Spek with your client to estblish needs before finlizing progrm selection. Use the fewest number of progrms to simplify use. The Music Progrm utomticlly sets the microphone to n omnidirectionl pttern nd other fetures like noise reduction nd feedbck cncelltion to specil stte for music pprecition. The Music progrm llows overll gin djustment of 10 to +6dB. NOTE: The CIC model hs the M mode only. ) Select number corresponding to desired progrm combintion b) Click Finish to complete Fitting Wizrd

Pge 4 Fine Tuning Senso Div Click <Fine Tuning> on left side of Compss to ccess the Fine-Tuning Screens. There re seven wys to use the fine-tuning section: (1) Client Profile, (2) Generl Menu Screens, (3) Detils Menu Screens, (4) Fine-Tuning Guide, (5) A/B Comprtor, (6) SoundTrcker, nd (7) Feedbck Verifiction. These will be discussed in this section. 1. Client Profile The client profile offers fine-tuning djustments bsed on the etiology of the werer s hering loss nd werer s experience with mplifiction. Use the Client Profile first when the werer is not stisfied with the defult settings provided by the Senso Div hering id. The Client Profile icon is vilble in the toolbr when in the Fine Tuning Screen OR, select <Client Profile> under the <Tools> menu. In this exmple, the werer hs been using liner mplifiction prior to the Senso Div. 1. Choose the Client Profile from the toolbr. 2. Choose <Binurl> if the condition exists for both ers 3. In the Ctegories re, list of options will pper. In this exmple, Hering id experience is selected.

Pge 5 4. In the Profile re, list of options will pper. In this exmple, Previous hering id ws liner is selected. In the Detils re, suggestions nd lternte settings pper. Select n pproprite lternte setting bsed on the client s needs. The <View Adjustments> tb will disply the djustments tht will be mde. If desired, settings cn be djusted with Up/Down rrows. Click <Next> to continue. 5. The client will choose the preferred setting. ) Provide coustic signls to demonstrte the chnge. b) Click A or B to llow the client to listen to the different settings. c) Solicit the client s preferred setting (A or B) fter listening to both settings. Select n lternte setting nd <Next> to continue to the comprison window. Alternte between A nd B while providing coustic stimuli. 6 6. Select the client s preferred setting nd click <Finish> to store the settings in the hering id. Selection of <Cncel> will return the hering id to the settings prior to entering Client Profile.

Pge 6 2. Generl Menu Screens The generl menu screens re helpful when you know which prmeter you desire to chnge (Insertion Gin for Norml, Loud or Soft Input). Select the prmeter box nd chnge vlues by using the up/down rrows, entering number from the computer keybord, or using the UP nd DOWN direction keys on the computer keybord. To chnge the screen type, select <Curve Types> from the <View> drop-down menu, or click on the desired grph type on the toolbr. (Note: you cn dd grphs to the toolbr by selecting "Customize" from the tool menu.) Insertion Gin vs. Input This screen is used to view the gin chrcteristics of the hering id progrm (x-xis is the input intensity; y-xis is the insertion gin). Speech Spectr This screen is used to view the unided nd ided speech spectr in reltion to the user s residul dynmic rnge. It is in udiogrm formt. Output vs. Input This screen is used to view the output chrcteristics of the hering id progrm (x-xis is the input intensity; y-xis is the output intensity). Output vs. Frequency This screen is used to view the frequency response of the hering id t three input levels (40, 65 nd 90 db SPL).

Pge 7 3. Detils Menu Screens The Detils Menu Screens provide your choice of views of ny of the fine tuning screens for norml, loud, nd soft speech input levels. Adjustments cn be mde on these screens only to the prmeter tht ffects the specific input level. Select the prmeter box nd chnge vlues by using the up/down rrows, entering number from the computer keybord, or using the UP nd DOWN direction keys on the computer keybord. Trget vlues re the gin recommendtions for the individul s hering loss nd re specific to both the frequency region (500, 1000, 2000, & 4000 Hz) s well s input level (Norml, Loud, nd Soft). The insertion gin (IG) vlues represent the hering id gin settings in the individul s er. To chieve the Senso Div's unique Loudness Mpping criteri, Trget Gin sound mtch insertion gin vlues. If necessry, IGnorml, IGloud, nd IGsoft my be djusted to minimize user s complints The Detils Menu lso give you ccess to the Occlusion Mnger nd Options. Click <Detils> tb on the top of the menu screen to expnd the options. Click <Norml>, <Loud>, or <Soft> tb to select different speech spectr screens. Norml Level Loud Level Soft Level Norml Input Levels: Incresing IGnorml will increse insertion gin for converstionl inputs (pproximtely 50dB HL). Decresing this vlue will decrese gin for inputs round converstionl inputs. Loud Input Levels: Incresing IGloud will increse gin for loud input levels (bove 50 db HL) level. Decresing this vlue will decrese gin for inputs bove the converstionl level. Soft Input Levels: Incresing IGsoft will increse gin for soft input levels (below 50 db HL). Decresing this vlue will decrese gin for soft input levels.

Pge 8 Occlusion Mnger The Occlusion Mnger tb llows for further djustment of low frequency gin to minimize the perception of hollowness. 1 1. While in Fine Tuning Screen, Click <Detils> tb followed by clicking <Occlusion Mnger> tb. 2. Select <On> to ctivte. This utomticlly decouples the low frequency bnds (below 500Hz) from the higher frequency bnds nd increses compression rtio for the very low frequency bnds. 3. Gin for the very low frequencies (125-500Hz) my be djusted independently: LF1= 125-350Hz nd LF2=350-500Hz. Typiclly, gin is decresed by mking negtive 2 "offsets" nd incresed by mking positive "offsets" for LF1 nd LF2. Use the rrow to select the desired offset vlue. 3 Note: If the occlusion is relted to too much low frequency gin, decresing low frequency gin offset will help llevite the problem. If the occlusion problem is relted to insufficient gin, incresing the low frequency gin offset my llevite it. Chnge LF1 for "loudness" mnipultion; chnge LF2 for "clrity" djustment. The <Options> tb llows for the following options to be djusted: 1. Selection of Listening Progrms If you wish to chnge the progrms selected during the Fitting Wizrd, you cn do so on this screen. Remember tht there re up to 4 progrms vilble including M (Microphone), M/T (Microphone nd Telecoil), T (Telecoil), nd Mus (Music Progrm). Spek with your client to estblish needs before finlizing progrm selection. Use the fewest number of progrms to simplify use. The Music Progrm utomticlly sets the microphone to n omni-directionl pttern nd other fetures like noise reduction nd feedbck cncelltion to c specil stte for music pprecition. The Music progrm llows overll gin djustment of 10 to +6dB. Pge 9 2. Loctor/Adptive Directionlity The LOC setting enbles dptive directionlity. Its polr pttern chnges utomticlly depending on the loction of the noise source. However, the Senso Div microphone system my be djusted to n OMNIDIRECTIIONAL mode or fixed DIRECTIONAL hypercrdioid pttern. ) Highlight "Fine Tuning" to enter Fine Tuning Screen b) Click "Detils" tb. Click the "Options" tb. c) Click "LCT" d) Click rrow for list of options nd select the desired microphone mode. e) Be sure the selection is mtched for both ers Note: The AIS indictor icon will pper if the defult progrm setting is chnged. c d 3. Prm The Prm option screen contins two djustble prmeters: the Automtic Output Control (AOC) to prevent distortion of high output. It is highly recommend leving AOC ctivted (the defult setting) unless the client requires higher output from the hering id even t its mximum gin settings. You lso hve the bility to djust the noise reduction settings. 1. Click <Prm> tb 2. Add/remove check in box to ctivte/dectivte AOC 3. Click on the down rrow next to Noise Reduction Settings to djust the level 4. An AIS icon will pper to indicte the chnge. 1 2 3 4 4. Telegin 1. Select <T> tb to llow djustment of telecoil sensitivity. 2. Use the up/down rrows to scroll to desired djustment in level. 3. An AIS icon will pper to indicte the chnge. Note: "+3.0" mens the sensitivity of the telecoil is 3dB higher thn tht of the microphone. A "-4.5" mens the gin of the telecoil is 4.5dB below tht of the microphone. To void udibility of environmentl electrocoustic interference, mximum sensitivity is not recommended. Click <Return> to leve Detils Screens nd return to Generl Screens 2 1

Pge 10 4. Fine-Tuning Guide The Fine-Tuning Guide llows the hering id professionl to mke systemtic progrmming chnges bsed on the client s specific rections to the hering id. Two guides re vilble: Composite nd Specific. The Composite Guide llows the professionl to ddress number of client rections t one time. This is ccomplished by checking the client s rections listed in the guide. The Specific Guide llows the professionl to focus on one specific problem By selecting Binurl, chnges will be mde utomticlly to the right followed by the left. Confirm tht the hering ids hve been djusted (flshing lights on NOAHlink or HI-PRO) prior to sking client for preferred settings. The fine-tuning icon is vilble in the toolbr when one is in the Fine Tuning Screen. OR, select the <Fine Tuning Guide> under the <Tools> menu. In this exmple, the specific problem of Speech is too soft" will be demonstrted. 1. Choose the Specific Guide. If number of client rections re to be ddressed t one time, use the Composite Guide. Modify this exmple by selecting necessry complints nd Compss will clculte n overll djustment. 2. Choose <Binurl> if ptient's complint is present for both ers. 3. Click <OK> to continue 4. In the Ctegory Column of the Fine-Tuning Screen, select Converstionl Speech 1 2 3 5. In the Complints Column, select "Speech is too soft"

Select potentil solution nd click <Next> to set the Senso Div to the new settings. 8. Click <Next> gin to proceed to dptive pired comprison. 9. For this exmple, you might present speech t converstionl level. b) Alternte between <A> nd <B> while the client is provided coustic stimuli mke sure hering id switches settings (Flshing lights on NOAHlink or HI-PRO). c) Solicit the client s preferred setting (A or B) fter listening to both settings. Select 10 preferred progrm setting followed by <Next> until comprisons re completed. 10. To complete A/B Comprison, select the client s preferred setting (A or B) nd click <Finish> 7 5. A/B Comprison The A/B Comprison window is helpful when you wnt the client to listen between two different hering id settings. The AB Comprison icon is vilble in the toolbr when in the Fine Tuning Screen. OR, select the <AB Comprison> under the <Tools> menu. When the window opens, you will see tht A is the ctul setting in the hering id. You cn select the B setting, choosing either the Compss prescription which is bsed on the Sensogrm, or ny setting tht ws previously sved in NOAH for this hering id. 1. Select <Next> to continue. 2. Alternte between <A> nd <B> while the client is provided coustic stimuli - mking sure tht the hering id switches settings (flshing lights on NOAHlink or HI-PRO). 3. Determine client's preferred setting. 4. Select client's preferred setting nd click <Finish>. Hering id will be progrmmed to the selected settings.

SoundTrcker The SoundTrcker llows the hering id professionl to visully demonstrte the effect of the werer s hering loss on the udibility of input sounds (unided), s well s the effect of the Senso Div s mplifiction on such udibility (ided). It is useful for counseling nd for understnding why specific sounds my be problemtic for the werer. Note: NOAHlink (insted of Hi-Pro) must be used s the interfce nd vlid feedbck test must hve been performed prior to ccessing the SoundTrcker. FBC must be turned on. The SoundTrcker icon is vilble in the toolbr when in the Fine Tuning Screen OR, select <SoundTrcker> under the <View> menu. 1. To strt, click <Strt SoundTrcker>. The pek level cross ll 15 chnnels is connected. Adjustments to the hering id cnnot be mde when SoundTrcker is ctive. 2. Select <Aided> or <Unided>. The height of the light colored brs represents the mgnitude of the input signl in db HL. For <Aided> option, the height of the drk colored brs represents the gin nd the combined light/drk height of the brs represents the Senso Div output mesured in db HL. 3. To stop, click <Stop SoundTrcker>. Click <Close> to return to the Fine-Tuning Screen. 7. Feedbck Verifiction The Feedbck Test is performed s prt of the initil fitting, however it my be repeted during finetuning, or its prmetric vlues djusted using the Feedbck Verifiction Screen. Click on the feedbck verifiction icon or select Feedbck Verifiction from the Tools Menu to ccess this screen. 1. To repet Feedbck Test, select <Strt Test>. A new set of feedbck vlues will be vilble for the new feedbck pth. 2. Select proper Feedbck Cncelltion (FBC) sttus. The defult setting for FBC is ON. It llows for mximum vilble gin nd should remin ON. Switching Feedbck Cnceling to Off will dectivte this feture nd will reduce the mount of vilble gin. This is 2 recommended only if the werer does not require the full mount of vilble gin. 1 3. Select proper Feedbck Mrgin (Fbmr): 3 The defult setting of Fbmr is 6 db. This mens tht 6 db cushion is llowed before the Senso Div will feedbck. Incresing this vlue will minimize the likelihood of feedbck. Decresing it will increse the likelihood of feedbck. An AIS icon will pper t the bottom of the screen to indicte the defult vlue hs been chnged. FBC must be off to djust the Feedbck Mrgin.

Pge 13 Test Mode of Senso Div After fit is complete, Test Mode cn be ccessed from either Fitting or Fine Tuning Screens. Test Mode Settings re only ctive while the Div hering id is connected to Compss through NOAHlink or HI-PRO nd the Test Mode window is ctive. Select the <Test Modes> option from the <Tools> pull-down menu. Self Test checks the integrity of the microphones, receiver nd Div chip. Perform this test to eliminte the possibility tht your ptient s complints my be relted to the mlfunctioning of the trnsducers. Test Mode 1 dectivtes compression, noise reduction, feedbck cncelltion, nd sets the gin prmeters to stndrd setting. It is used for ANSI Coupler Mesurements only Test Mode 2 dectivtes slow-cting compression, noise reduction, nd feedbck cncelltion. The microphone is in fixed, omnidirectionl mode. The hering id is set t the werer s recommended frequency gin settings. It is used for verifiction of werer s hering id frequency-gin response. Test Mode 3 dectivtes compression, noise reduction, nd feedbck cncelltion nd the hering id cn be set t the werer s frequency gin settings for soft, norml, or loud input in liner mode. Test Mode 4 dectivtes compression, noise reduction, nd AOC, nd the hering id is set t the werer s frequency gin settings t mximum gin settings in liner mode. The microphone is in fixed, omnidirectionl mode. FBC cn be on or off. Specil Fittings Conductive or Mixed hering Loss Compss will utomticlly clculte the corrections to the hering id settings when the boneconduction thresholds re entered on the NOAH Audiogrm. These corrections re bsed on 1/2 of the verge Air-Bone Gp for the 1000-4000 Hz frequency rnge. If bone-conduction thresholds were not pplied to the NOAH Audiogrm, increse IGloud vlues in ech bnd by 1/3-1/2 of the Averge Air-Bone Gp from 1-4 khz. Widex Peditric Rtionle If the child is under 5 yers of ge, mrk the child s ge ctegory in the Peditric Fitting Dilog Box. Compss 3 will pply the necessry ge corrections to the reported thresholds nd prescribe gin bsed on the child s ge, degree of hering loss, hering-id style (i.e., hering id microphone loction), nd the trnsducer used for udiometric informtion.the Peditric rtionle cn be ccessed during the hering id fitting, by selecting the Peditric Fitting option under the Tools Menu or by clicking the Peditric Fitting Icon. NOTE: These corrections re verge estimtes nd significnt individul differences occur cross children. If desired, the individul rel er to coupler difference (RECD) cn be mesured nd implemented during the fitting. It is importnt to observe the child s response nd djust s necessry.
