12 Think of Rh ymes Number of players: 3 or 4 Materials: gameboard spinner 1 marker for each player (coins, buttons, etc.) Directions: 1. Print one copy of the gameboard. 2. Decide which player goes first. 3. The first player spins and moves the number of spaces shown on the spinner. The player reads the word in the space where he or she lands. The player must say two words that rhyme with the word in the space in order to place a marker on the space. If the player can only think of one word, he or she puts a marker on the space behind the one he or she landed on. If the player cannot think of any rhyming words or says a word that does not rhyme, he or she goes back to his or her last space. 4. The next player spins, moves the correct number of spaces, and reads the word in the space where he or she lands. The player then puts a marker in the correct space depending on the number of rhyming words he or she comes up with. Encourage players not to use the same rhyming word for more than one turn. Play continues until someone reaches the end of the path. The first person to reach the end is the winner. Variation: Make the game more challenging. After placing their marker on a space, have players think of a sentence using one of the rhyming words they came up with. EELN Sort 12: Rhyming Sort Pairs 2 1
