Find out what your shadow is like. Can you catch it? Is it small? Is it big? Can you shake its hand? Can you ride it? Can you draw a shadow? Find out. Trace around shadows on the playground using sidewalk chalk. Or use a pencil to trace shadows on paper. You might even try to trace a friend s body. (Is the shadow you traced the same size as your friend?) INDOORS Materials: flashlights art paper or large table cloth white and black construction paper Use art paper or a large tablecloth to cover all sides of a table; making sure the paper or cloth reaches the floor. Give students flashlights and let them play beneath the cover to make shadows with their hands. Use a projector to create each child s silhouette on a piece of black paper. Trace the child s outline with a white crayon or chalk. Cut out and mount the silhouettes on contrasting paper. (The silhouettes make a great Valentine keepsake.) FABULOUS FEBRUARY SHADOW FUN
