Speaker Bios Steve Suhrheinrich, Co-Founder and COO at Curvo Labs Steve brings leadership experience and sales expertise from multiple disciplines to his current role as Co-Founder and COO at Curvo Labs. Curvo is a cloud-based technology for clinical spend management. After success as a Naval Officer, hedge fund VP, and enterprise sales leader, Steve co-founded Curvo with Andy Perry in 2012. He holds a BS from Vanderbilt University and a MBA from San Diego State University. Steve lives in San Diego with his wife and two young daughters. Matt Crawley, Sr. Consultant for Apex Revenue Technologies Matt Crawley joined Apex in May of 2017, bringing over 20 years of focused experience in patient financial engagement and revenue cycle management. During his career in the health care industry, he has worked for companies such as Shared Medical Systems, Emdeon (now Change Healthcare) and Experian Health. Matt holds a degree in Psychology from BYU. Matt resides in Salt Lake City, Utah, with his wife and 5 children. He enjoys spending time in the mountains biking, climbing, and camping with friends and family.
CFO Panel Gordon Crabtree, CPA, MBA - Moderator for CFO Panel Gordon Crabtree has been the CFO for University of Utah Health since 2002. In this role he is responsible for all financial aspects of the University of Utah Health. He currently serves as Interim CEO. Prior to joining the organization Gordon worked with the Salt Lake Olympic Committee as the Managing Director of Finance. In this position he was responsible for financial reporting, debt management, cash management, accounting payroll, revenue management, rate card services, dissolution/liquidation, taxes, financial audits and internal audits. Prior to the Olympics, Gordon worked for the State of Utah in the positions of Director of Finance, Assistant Director of Finance and Audit Manager. He has an MBA from the University of Utah and a BS in Accounting from Weber State College. Charlton Park, MBA, MHSM - Interim CFO and CAO of the University of Utah Health Charlton has been with the University for more than 8 years and has been responsible for developing innovative analytics to drive improvements in financial and clinical performance. He has played an important role in the development of various integration models across several clinical programs, using financial and clinical data to increase collaboration and alignment between
physician specialties and the hospital. Charlton has also played a key role in the organizations Value Driven Outcomes (VDO) initiative which provides accurate, actionable cost accounting and outcomes information at the visit level. Charlton began his career in healthcare as a clinic manager managing two urgent care practices in Central Phoenix. Following his time as a clinic manager and before joining the University of Utah Health team, Charlton expanded his experience working for UnitedHealth Group as a project manager and business intelligence analyst where he was introduced to various analytic tools and methods and further developed his interest and love of data and analytics. Charlton received his Bachelor of Science degree in Information System from the University of Utah in Salt Lake City, Utah and his MBA and Master of Health Sector Management degrees at Arizona State University in Tempe, Arizona. Bert Zimmerli, Executive VP and CFO of Intermountain Healthcare Bert Zimmerli joined Intermountain Healthcare in 2003. He is responsible for the direction and oversight of all Intermountain Healthcare financial operations. He also oversees Intermountain s insurance/health plans operations, SelectHealth, as well Intermountain s Innovation and Business Development activities. Bert serves on a number of Boards, including Intalere (chair), the fifth largest Group Purchasing Organization in the country; ExceleraRx (chair), specialty Pharmacy Company co-owned by Catholic Health Initiatives, Fairview Health System Banner and Intermountain; HealthBox Global Partners, Inc.; and the Advisory Board of Chicago Pacific Founders. He also serves on the Executive Board of the Salt Lake Chamber of Commerce, the Governing Boards of SelectHealth and the Intermountain Healthcare Foundation and advisory boards for certain private equity funds for which Intermountain Healthcare is a limited partner.
Prior to joining Intermountain Healthcare, Bert was the executive vice president and chief financial officer of the Methodist Hospital System in Houston, Texas. Prior to that, he served in numerous capacities with Memorial Hermann Healthcare System in Houston, including senior vice president, chief financial officer and was president of several of its smaller subsidiaries. He also was a partner in Ernst & Young s Houston office, where he spent 16 years, specializing in healthcare. Bert received a bachelor s degree in accounting and a master s degree in business administration, both from the University of Wisconsin. He is a Certified Public Accountant and received the Elijah Watt Sells Award for receiving the second-highest score in the nation when he took the CPA exam. Jared Spackman, MBA CFO/COO Davis Hospital and Medical Center Jared has been the CFO at Davis Hospital and Medical Center since April 2009. Prior to that Jared has served as a CFO with IASIS Healthcare since February 2004. Jared is responsible for the financial performance of the hospital dealing with monthly operations review, budget preparation, SOX compliance, capital expenditures, and internal as well as external audit. He has direct oversight of the following departments: Medical Records, Materials Management, Information Systems, Accounting, Case Management, Admitting, Business Office, Laboratory, and Radiology. Jared began his career in healthcare as a senior accountant at Jordan Valley Medical Center. Within a short time frame he was promoted from senior accountant to the controller position and a short time later was promoted to be the CFO at Pioneer Valley Hospital. Jared successfully completed the officer track within the HFMA board for the Utah Chapter. The officer track began in May of 2010 and ended in April 2014 holding four different leadership positions from Secretary to President. Jared and his wife have four beautiful children, three boys and one girl. He has spent countless hours coaching football, soccer and basketball for each one of his children. He loves golfing, being in the outdoors, and doing anything recreational that requires a motor.
Randy Tempest, Senior VP Sales & Marketing, Receivables Management Partners (RMP) Randy Tempest has over 20 years of experience in the healthcare accounts receivable industry, working with some of the largest and most complex health systems in the country to meet their revenue cycle needs. He currently serves as Senior VP of Sales and Marketing for Meduit, where he leads their efforts in cultivating new and existing partnerships with hospitals and healthcare systems. Randy earned a BS in Marketing and MBA from Ball State University. He has led leadership courses throughout his career, most notably at healthcare association events throughout the U.S. Randy s energetic style has made him a sought after presenter, where he encourages others to see life as a gift and to use that gift for good works. Jen Johnson, CFA Managing Director, VMG Health Jen Johnson is a Managing Director with VMG Health and has led the Professional Service Agreements Division for over ten years. Her expertise is related to determining Fair Market Value and understanding regulatory guidelines associated with valuing professional service and compensation arrangements. Mrs. Johnson has valued nearly every type of arrangement in the
healthcare market and is a thought leader related to valuing pay for performance arrangements. She has been integral in developing internal compensation tools for some of the largest health systems in the country. Her accomplishments also include providing expert witness testimony related to fair market value and serving as a peer review editor for the Journal of Hospital Administration. Jen earned her BBA and MBA in Finance, as well as the Chartered Financial Analyst designation, and served as a finance professor for the University of North Texas. Corey Palasota, CFA Director, VMG Health Corey Palasota is a director at VMG Health in the Dallas office. In addition to providing valuation and transaction advisory services, Mr. Palasota is also involved in the firm s proprietary research and management consulting initiatives. Mr. Palasota s valuation and consulting experience spans numerous sub-industries within healthcare including the valuation of complex multi-billion dollar enterprises. Since joining VMG, he has been involved in over 200 transactions amongst various healthcare entities. Prior to VMG Health, Mr. Palasota was an analyst at a hedge fund where he performed valuation and due diligence on the firm s concentrated investments. Corey received a Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance and Business Honors from The University of Texas at Austin. He has obtained the Chartered Financial Analyst designation from the CFA Institute and has also published numerous articles regarding valuation complexities within the healthcare industry.
