Telene Jeffrey Telene s mother taught her to sew when she was young and her obsession for quilting stems from her passion for sewing. She completed a B Tech in Interior Architecture and during her studies, she became involved in her parents Bernina dealership where she taught a variety of basic sewing lessons. During her time in the corporate world, she started quilting. In January 2011 she began teaching basic quilting classes which developed into quilting for clients, specializing in custom free motion quilting. She also taught at IQCA and other quilt groups in her area. She is an SAQG Accredited Quilt Teacher after successfully completing the Teachers Accreditation Course. In October 2014, she opened a quilting shop, Lady Jane Quilting, from where she teaches quilt related workshops on a weekly basis. Telene has won numerous prizes for her quilts and attained Master Quilter Status from the SAQG. She has proudly had a quilt juried into the IQA Houston Quilt Show 2016 where it was displayed in the exhibition. She was appointed by BERNINA RSA as one of their Global BERNINA Long-Arm Quilt Ambassadors, 2016-2018. She subsequently taught at the 19 th South African National Quilt Festival, Port Elizabeth. She made her international teaching debut in November 2017 where she shared her passion in a series of classes at a quilt shop in Texas, USA. September 2018 will be Telene s fifth appearance as a teacher at the annual Handi Quilter Machine Quilters Boot Camp, South Africa. Free motion quilting is Telene s absolute passion, and she is a firm believer that everybody can quilt. FMQ BASICS CLASSES
FMQ 101 4 or 6 hour hands-on class Are you always admiring the quilting skills of others but too afraid to try it for yourself? I ll show you how, the easy way! I ll share my secrets to achieve success with Free Motion Quilting. We start right at the beginning and work our way up towards quilting freedom! This class is ideal for beginners but will also benefit the more intermediate quilter. The requirements list will be forwarded once you have booked your class. No kit will be provided. Feathers & Threads 3 or 4 or 6 hour hands-on class Now who doesn t love feathers? In this class I will teach you how to draw and stitch-out VARIOUS DIFFERENT feather designs along with combination designs. When you are done with this class, you ll want to quilt feathers on everything! Beginner/Intermediate advanced. You do need to know how to free motion quilt a little bit to attend this class. Advanced Feathers 6 hour hands-on class In this class we will focus on applying feather designs to typical block types, as well as sashing and borders. I ll show you how to handle curves and corners, as well as using feathers as an all over pattern. We will also look at various vein design options. This class is based on techniques and not a specific project. You do need to know how to free motion quilt as well as quilt the basic feather methods to attend this class. The requirements list will be forwarded once you have booked your class. No kit will be provided. Notes will be provided. Beginners to intermediate/advanced.
Work That Grid 3 or 4 or 6 hour hands-on class Are you struggling to achieve an even fill? What can be achieved with a basic stencilled grid? Students will explore various design options based on a grid as guidance to achieve wonderful block patterns and fill designs. You do need to know how to free motion quilt a little bit to attend this class. A compulsory base line stencil will be provided at R135 but you will use it a lot in you other general quilting projects. Beginners to Advanced.
Rule It 4 or 6 hour hands-on class Long arm quilters have been using rulers as guides and to sew along for several years. Now we can apply those same principals on our domestic sewing machines. The ruler is no longer just a marking or design tool, it is now an essential quilting tool. In this class you will learn how to use rulers to free motion quilt against, making things like stitch-in-the-ditch easier because you don t have to turn your quilt in your machine. We are also going to explore design options with rulers for blocks, sashing, borders and more. Beginners to Advanced. You need to have the specific ruler foot for your brand machine and 6mm thick rulers to bring along to class.
SIGNATURE CLASSES
before Just Quilt the Fabric 4 or 6 or 12 hour hands-on class Ideal for that special piece of fabric in your stash that you don t want to cut up! This class is a fantastic way to practice your free motion quilting without having to worry about a design or patchwork. No piecing, no applique, no drawing, no calculations, just stitching fun! Add a whole new layer of texture and dimension to an already beautiful printed fabric. We will look at different fill types, appropriate threads, special effects and quilting principals associated with whole cloth quilting. Students need to bring along a fat quarter fabric with large design print. Beginner Advanced.
Quilt on Clothing 3 or 4 or 6 hour hands-on class or lecture/demo Why not? Instantly upcycle a old pair of jeans or glam up a plain shirt! This class will teach you how to achieve that embroidered look but with free motion quilting designs on ready made clothing using a longarm quilting machine or domestic sewing machine no embroidery machine involved. Stabilizers, threads, designs and limits will be discussed and a hands-on sample project will be completed. Students to bring along a piece of clothing to stitch on. You do need to know how to free motion quilt a little bit to attend this class. Intermediate to Advanced.
Tie Dye Tango 3 or 4 or 6 hour hands-on class This is a hands-on class where students will learn how to approach the design layout for whole cloth quilts as well as all the options for transferring the design to cloth. The best stitching approaches will be discussed along with a couple of design principals. Student will also start with the quilting on their hand dyed quilt top, finishing their master piece as home. You do need to know how to free motion quilt a little bit to attend this class. Kit cost: R375- A kit will be supplied containing a unique hand dyed panel of 22 square, batting and backing fabric to match, 3 x cones of matching Isacord thread. No 2 kits will be exactly the same. Freemotion-Applique-As-You-Quilt 3 or 4 or 6 hour hands-on class This is a great technique for making gifts as you are going to do the applique and quilting all in one create a traditional applique look but doing it all free motion! We will create a small piece ready for you to use as a bag or quilt block or mug rug etc. I will also discuss and demo a couple of other methods to achieve this technique like incorporating free motion couching and reverse applique. Beginner Advanced.
Couched Applique-As-You-Quilt 4 or 6 or 12 hour hands-on class I love a quick and easy project. This technique is just that! We will be doing the applique and quilting together with free motion couching, and then add some more detailing with free motion quilting. Fun, freeing, no pre-planning, no rules! The requirements list will be forwarded once you have booked your class. Notes will be provided. No kit will be provided. Beginner Advanced.
Colour-Me-Whole 4 or 6 hour hands-on class Quilt first then add colour later sounds good? I ll show you how I create one-of-a-kind quilted pieces without any patchwork or applique. It is great fun seeing your coloured whole cloth quilt develop. This is a no-sew class. A kit will be provided with a stitched-out quilt sample and all the colouring materials needed. Freestyle Quilting 6 hour hands-on class I have had several requests for a class on how I approach and quilt my freestyle designs. I will share and show my tips to design effortlessly and quilt effectively, creating one-of-kind pieces. We will discuss all the elements going into a piece like this fabrics, batting, threads, stitching methods, design basics and inspiration. We will design your piece and you will also start to quilt your master piece in class, to complete at home. Easy Quilted Bag My Easy Quilted Bag is just that Easy! And fun to make as will be playing with threads and bits. It involves a bit of piecing, a bit of layering, a bit of quilting and a bit of construction. It s a pattern-less bag that can be made in ANY size Easy! Let s get Creative We can do so much more with our free motion skills and quilting machines than just quilting bed quilts. We will look at various methods of enjoying free motion stitching and being creative at the same time like making lace, quilt-as-you-go methods, mini art quilts, thread sketching and quiltlets, to name a few. Quilting the Latte 1.5hr lecture/demo or 3 hour lecture/design class You have made this beautiful Latte quilt top, or any other embroidery quilt top, but where do you start with the quilting? In this class you will learn some basic quilting and design principals, tips and tricks, batting, thread, needles and marking tools information to complete your heirloom quilt successfully. This is a no-sew class but bring along your Latte quilt top, just one block or even just your Latte Book and we will discuss and design various options on how to quilt it. Beginner Advanced.
Transferring Designs to Quilt All the option on transferring your quilting design on paper to your quilt top. I ll share and demonstrate all the different marking options along with its pro s and cons. Notes will be provided, but bring along a pen and notebook for extra info. Vintage Linen 1.5 hour lecture/demo Students will learn how to approach the design layout on vintage linen and receive tips on what will be the appropriate design features. Various methods of layering will be discussed as well as the all-important finishing of the quilt edge. Students will also receive ideas on what to do with vintage linen. Beginners to Advanced.
