ER55 EMI TEST RECEIVER Family of automatic test receivers for measurement of electromagnetic interference from 9kHz to 2.8GHz. Compact designed and manufactured in compliance with CISPR 16-1-1 For Measurements vs. commonly used EMI Standards Continuously active pre-selectors Full modular approach Advanced software for EMC automation

The ER55 is a family of microprocessor-controlled, super heterodyne-type automatic test receivers covering the frequency range from 9kHz to 2800 MHz. These receivers are ideally suited for measurement of electromagnetic interference in accordance with the requirements of FCC, CISPR, EN. Receivers can also be used as a selective RF voltmeter with a level range of 10dBµV to 127dBµV in 50Ω coaxial systems. EMI MEASUREMENTS TO STANDARD Optimised easy-to-use EMI measurement concept. Fitted with the internal preselector/ preamplifier all AFJ ER55 models feature an excellent dynamic range and are, therefore, able to perform precise EMC tests. Measurements to commercial EMI standards such as CISPR, EN 550xx, ETS, FCC, shall be carried out directly by comparing the EMI spectrum with the associated limit lines and switching on the appropriate detectors. MAIN FEATURES Peak, Quasi-Peak and AV Correct pulse weighting to CISPR 16-1 from PRF of 1Hz High measurement speed and fast detection of critical frequencies (peak time down to 2msec) Spectrum analyser mode EMI measurement bandwidths 200Hz, 9kHz, 120kHz and 1MHz high sensitivity large-signal immunity low measurement uncertainty high measurement speed Correction values for cables loss, coupling networks and antenna k factors Overload indicator Built in AM/FM demodulation CISPR COMPLIANCE The ER55 Receivers, fully complies with CISPR 16-1-1 and CISPR 16-2. The response of ER55 Quasi-Peak Detector in terms of both absolute calibration and relative calibration lays between the tolerances of CISPR 16-1. The pulse weighting conformity meet down to the minimum value of the Pulse Repetition Frequency (PRF) coming from the DUT, of 1Hz. Accuracy and reproducibility are key parameters for all applications of the AFJ ER55 receivers

M O D U L A R A P P R O A C H TO THE R E C E I V E R S ER55 Receivers has been conceived under a modular approach, in order to enable users to modulate their investment versus their specific needs. Five fundamental frequency ranges are made available, via five different modular models: ER55C: from 9kHz to 30MHz ER55R: from 30MHz to 1000MHz ER55R/2.8: from 30MHz to 2800MHz ER55CR: from 9kHz to 1000MHz ER55CR/2.8:from 9kHz to 2800MHz In particular, Model ER55C can be upgraded to ER55CR or ER55CR/2.8, via addition of relevant H/W and S/W modules. The same with any ER55, so allowing extension of the frequency range whenever required. The modular approach represents a further advantage whenever a change in applicable Standard demands an extension in frequency range

R E C E I V E R O V E R V I E W SOFTWARE & AUTOMATION ER55 EMI Receivers are PC-based and totally controlled by an easy-running WINDOWS software. Software enable the operator to set all parameters and set-up the Receiver as requested by CISPR 16-1 or to tailor it according to his specific needs. Some examples are: Frequency range and frequency step Detectors (Peak, Quasi Peak, Average) Delay time Limits set by European and other Standards Antenna correction factors (k-factor) Time saving functions, such as set-up storage or easy procedures for saving of data (measurements, frequency tables, antenna correction factor tables) into files, are available. PRE-SELECTION FILTERS The input bandwidth of the front end is limited by pre-selection filters to reduce the total voltage level at the input mixer to an extent compatible with the wide dynamic range required for quasi-peak detection in the CISPR frequency range. Up to 15 fixed and tuned pre-selector filters guarantee more than 40dB of attenuation for intermediate frequency, image frequency and intermodulation effects DETECTORS Three different types of HW detectors, can be selected by the user. In addition to that, each detector type can be associated with a selectable timing, corresponding to the endurance of the measurement aperture gate. In the Manual Mode, the bargraph, with current detector value and MaxHold display, shows the results of manual circuit adjustment an when DUT cabling is arranged for maximum emission.

S W M A I N W I N D O W S SWEEP MODE Fast overview measurements with logarithmic or linear frequency scale with tuning in user defined frequency step with selectable measuring time. ER55 receiver show measurement time on main cockpit while running the test MANUAL MODE: The purpose of the MANUAL mode, is to select a frequency, and perform a monitoring of the events occurring on said frequency, for both capture of rare events and maintenance of the receiver. The TIME DOMAIN option allows to analyse the interference level on selected frequency in the time domain. ZOOM MODE: Performs a zooming operation on the diagram part that is selected via two vertical cursors. At the same time, a number of utilities are made available in the side area, to better control the zooming function, in addition to the pre-set values.

S W M A I N W I N D O W S ANTENNA MAST & TURNTABLE CONTROLLING Automatic measurements can be carried out, thus finding the max emission with respect to antenna height and EUT azimuthally positions SPECTRUM MODE: a fast Peak Detector scan rate for quick and consistent precompliance evaluations. TIME DOMAIN MODE: to analyse the interference level on selected frequency in the time domain

TEST ROUTINE ORIENTED TO PRACTICAL MEASUREMENTS OPERATING MODE: To enables the selection of the measure conditions under which the ER55 Receiver will operate to perform the analysis: SWEEP, TABLE, PEAK + QPEAK INPUT DEVICE: Antenna (or probe, or LISN) calibration files; Cabling calibration files; Additional device file (Amp/Att) DEMODULATION: AM, or FM-demodulation, can be performed to detect the non-dutdependent disturbs, usually originated by local radio communications, FM broadcasters, or alike. LIMITS: To recall of all possible LIMIT files that can be built using the EDIT LIMIT function. FREQUENCY: To set the parameters that will affect the SWEEP MODE. INPUT SELECT: Preamp + 20dB ATT -10dB All changes in this section, automatically affect the correction by a consistent extent. AUTOMATION: To control foreign equipment associated with the measurement site set-up, such as LISN, Controller for Antenna Mast, Turntable and slide bar. DISPLAY UNIT To display all possible measurement units in the ordinate scale. ATTENUATION MODES: Automatic: The right attenuation is automatically inserted. Receiver is always operated in its best range Manual: Operator select the right attenuation: Useful for receiver calibration CISPR 16-1 procedure. DETECTOR: Three different types of HW detectors, can be selected by the user. In addition to that, each detector type can be associated with a selectable timing, corresponding to the endurance of the measurement aperture gate.

R E P O R T I N G & SW F E A T U R E S ER55 receiver offer all functions that are required for in-house tests to perform EMC diagnostic measurement as quickly, easily and as accurately as necessary and to document the test results. Manual measurement of EMI spectra, thank to Manual Mode and Spectrum operating mode Semi automatic measurement with predefined scan and sweep tables allowing interactive interruption Individual of critical frequencies using markers and detectors assigned to the marker Fully automatic interference measurements in conjunction of external devices, as LISN, turn table, antenna mast, slide bar controllers. The EMC compliance test then will be just a formality.
