Conner St., Noblesville, IN (317) 776-4227 www.alwaysinstitches1.com Feb. 10, 2013 Knitting is like a box of chocolates Overheard at a recent knitting group: There s nothing like opening a drawer full of things you ve made. It s like your own box of fancy chocolates. Discover the joy of knitting with others at any of our many knitting groups. Glimpse the quilting past at February trunk show Have you seen the Quilts Remembered trunk show hanging in the hallway outside the Faith Room? Olive s Table Runner, Old Time Pinwheel, Stars Divided (in photo), Laura s 1870 Cradle Quilt, Rick Rack Spools and Cottage Fair are patterns by Annemarie Yohnk. We host a casual, drop-in session from 10:30-1 every Monday. If you d prefer to be here when an instructor is at the table, try Penny Knits with Penny Little (10:30-12:30 Tuesdays and Wednesdays and 1-3 Thursdays) or Open Stitch with Janice Vawter (5:30-7:30 Tuesdays and 6-7:30 Thursdays). And don t be surprised if there are some chocolates shared amid all the conversation and needlework. Quilts Remembered pattern designs provide a glimpse into our quilting past, Annemarie explains on her website, QuiltsRemembered.com. The quilts are traditional in design but with the flair of today s fabrics. Each pattern contains rotary cutting directions and has been classroom tested. So many fabrics from bundles to charm packs to scraps in a bin just sort them, cut them and start sewing! And don t forget to have fun. Always In Stitches is always in touch While you re welcome to be in the shop every day, you don t have to be here to keep up with what s going on. Quilting FUNdamentals: A pressing matter One of the most important steps in quilt making (and most sewing) is proper pressing, says McCall s Quick Quilts. It is important to press after sewing each seam. When working with strips, be careful to press them straight and not make arcs. When working with bias edges, press them as little as possible before they are sewn to another piece. Use a light touch when pressing. Lift the iron, then place back down on the seam or piece to be pressed instead of ironing without lifting the iron. Be as careful pressing as you are cutting and sewing for the best possible results.
