Stitchin' News What s in store at Always In Stitches 1808 E. Conner St., Noblesville, IN (317) 776-4227 www.alwaysinstitches1.com Feb. 10, 2013 Knitting is like a box of chocolates Overheard at a recent knitting group: There s nothing like opening a drawer full of things you ve made. It s like your own box of fancy chocolates. Discover the joy of knitting with others at any of our many knitting groups. Glimpse the quilting past at February trunk show Have you seen the Quilts Remembered trunk show hanging in the hallway outside the Faith Room? Olive s Table Runner, Old Time Pinwheel, Stars Divided (in photo), Laura s 1870 Cradle Quilt, Rick Rack Spools and Cottage Fair are patterns by Annemarie Yohnk. We host a casual, drop-in session from 10:30-1 every Monday. If you d prefer to be here when an instructor is at the table, try Penny Knits with Penny Little (10:30-12:30 Tuesdays and Wednesdays and 1-3 Thursdays) or Open Stitch with Janice Vawter (5:30-7:30 Tuesdays and 6-7:30 Thursdays). And don t be surprised if there are some chocolates shared amid all the conversation and needlework. Quilts Remembered pattern designs provide a glimpse into our quilting past, Annemarie explains on her website, QuiltsRemembered.com. The quilts are traditional in design but with the flair of today s fabrics. Each pattern contains rotary cutting directions and has been classroom tested. So many fabrics from bundles to charm packs to scraps in a bin just sort them, cut them and start sewing! And don t forget to have fun. "Let the beauty of the Lord our God be upon us, and establish the work of our hands for us." Psalm 90:17

we ll go on Saturday, June. 29. Go to NQA show with us We want to take you with us to Celebrate America, the National Quilting Association s Quilt Show in Columbus, Ohio. Details are being determined, but we know we ll go on Saturday, June. 29. Two opportunities to quilt all day with us Come in, get comfortable and quilt all day March 12 or 16 as Always In Stitches celebrates National Quilting Month in March. On March 16, you can purchase a kit to create the Nine Patch Stars and Stripes quilt (in photo) or bring your own patriotic project to work on from 10:30-4:30. We re asking for patriotic projects because Celebrate America is the theme for this year s National Quilting Association show, and we plan to send photographs from this event to NQA. Wouldn t it be fun to see photos from AIS at the show?. We ll provide lunch. You need to bring basic sewing supplies and their sewing machines. On March 12, quilters can bring any project (or we ll have one for you) to work on from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. We ll provide soup, salad and dessert in the afternoon, fun, laughs and tips all day. Bring your own supplies and put your worries away for a day. Either day, registration is $10 per person and the group size is limited. Don t wait to sign up. Our past packages have included round-trip transportation on a motorcoach, breakfast, show admission and snacks. We throw in lots of fun, a few surprises and stop for a Dutch treat dinner on the way home. There s plenty of good fellowship while we re riding, a great time seeing the incredible show and many, many laughs. For information about the show, visit http://nqaquiltshow.org/show We won t be taking a bus group to the International Quilt Festival in Cincinnati this year. It s a great show but we ve decided to limit ourselves to one trip. For information on this show, go to http://www.quilts.com/home/shows/index.php Oh yes you can get something for a penny One cent is all you need to spend Feb. 14-16 to earn discounts, gift certificates, notions, fabric, yarn and more. You can buy one gumball each of those days. The color you get will determine your reward, and you get to keep the gumball.

Always In Stitches is always in touch While you re welcome to be in the shop every day, you don t have to be here to keep up with what s going on. Quilting FUNdamentals: A pressing matter One of the most important steps in quilt making (and most sewing) is proper pressing, says McCall s Quick Quilts. It is important to press after sewing each seam. When working with strips, be careful to press them straight and not make arcs. When working with bias edges, press them as little as possible before they are sewn to another piece. Use a light touch when pressing. Lift the iron, then place back down on the seam or piece to be pressed instead of ironing without lifting the iron. Be as careful pressing as you are cutting and sewing for the best possible results. Join our email list and like us on Facebook. You ll get news, updates, a few laughs and the newsletter right on your computer screen. Not only will you be more likely to be the first to know about special events, there will be times when you ll know about sales and other opportunities exclusively through these emails or Facebook. Sign up for the email list on the homepage of www.alwaysinstitches1.com or at the cash register when you re in the shop. When you sign up in the shop, you get a free pattern. Oh, but how we wish it did Learn free motion quilting Susan Cook leads a two-hour class each month that teaches basic designs and techniques that will make your quilt top pop. This month s session is 1-3 p.m. Feb. 23. Students should bring their machine, darning or free motion foot and curiosity.

NUTTY NEEDLERS Every Thursday, 4-7:30 p.m. Be prepared to laugh and have fun with this group of cross-stitchers. SERENDIPITY BOM Feb. 6-13 Pick up your first block in this six-month project. GUMBALL EVENT Feb. 14-16 Spend a penny, win big. Buy a gumball from our machine but show us the color before you pop it into your mouth. Every gumball comes with a reward, which will change daily and be determined by the color.
