News Release DBS ILLUMINATES HONG KONG BY IGNITING POSSIBILITIES, SPARKING JOY *** Igniting possibilities and sparking joy are at the heart of DBS Hong Kong, 1 March 2015 Over the past five years, the remarkable journey of growth and success at DBS has transformed the bank into an Asian powerhouse with a market capitalisation of SG$50 billion, ranking DBS among the 200 most valuable publicly listed companies in the world. As we embark on the next stage of our journey, we seek to challenge traditional perceptions of banks and banking by sparking joyful experiences that connect businesses and communities, illuminate the lives of people everywhere through creativity and innovation, and much more. We do this through pain-free and delightful customer experiences that embrace simple and effortless banking. We also understand and grow businesses and provide great shareholder returns. We value trust and loyalty. We offer plentiful opportunities to learn and a great place to work. We give back to the community and seek to create an impact beyond banking. This passionate belief in the transformative power of Igniting Possibilities, Sparking Joy represents what the bank stands for and everything we do at DBS Bank (Hong Kong) Limited. Alex Cheung, DBS Bank (Hong Kong) Limited s Managing Director and Head of Institutional Banking Group, said: The spark that leads to success often comes from ingenuity, inspiration and innovation. We believe these human qualities reside in all of us; they just sometimes need to be ignited within us. Our ongoing support of social enterprises and community empowerment is a reflection of what DBS is about and is at the heart of what we say and do to spark joy. Since 2013, DBS Bank (Hong Kong) Limited has supported 24 social enterprises in Hong Kong with over HK$4 million in grants. The funds have enabled these social enterprises to develop over 100 new products and services, provide more than 7,000 training hours and some DBS Spark Campaign Page 1 of 7 DBS Bank (Hong Kong) Limited
250 job opportunities to the disadvantaged or marginalised. In addition, about 650 DBS staff contributed over 6,500 hours last year towards community projects that benefitted more than 1,400 single elderly persons and underprivileged children. In 2015, the DBS Foundation will continue to catalyse social innovation and ignite possibilities by nurturing the social entrepreneurship sector. We will inject a further HK$2 million to launch a brand new incubation programme for social innovators who adopt innovative and sustainable strategies to combat social issues and ignite and implement positive changes in the community. We will also offer capacity building and incubation support, as well as business clinics and workshops to the grantees. Our staff volunteers will also serve as social angels to provide professional advice to the grantees throughout the incubation process. All these initiatives reflect our commitment to give back to the community and create an impact beyond banking. Pearlyn Phau, DBS Bank (Hong Kong) Limited s Managing Director and Head of Consumer Banking Group & Wealth Management, said: Sparking joy is about speaking to one s heart. At DBS, we find inspiration everyday and in all sorts of unexpected places to ignite possibilities and spark joyful experiences with our customers and staff. Digitisation is key to what we are doing to spark joy in the customer journey. The ipad-enabled ec-loan programme, for example, enables SMEs to easily access additional funding of up to HK$2 million for as long as three years without the need to pledge any collateral, thus helping them to free up much needed working capital. Leveraging digital technology via the ipad streamlines what was previously a paper-based approval process requiring 4-5 days to a turnaround time of just one hour, and benefits our SME customers. Another example is DBS idealife. Optimised for savvy customers on the go, DBS idealife is designed to be the go-to one-stop travel app that makes life on the move joyful and easy. With DBS idealife, customers have everything they need at their fingertips to get ready for a trip. Users can get great deals on hotels, use voice input to apply for travel insurance, and much more. Glendy Chu, Head of Group Strategic Marketing & Communications at DBS Bank (Hong Kong) Limited, said: Igniting possibilities and sparking joy encapsulate everything we do as The Asian Bank of Choice. It s about the choices we make and speaks to the legacy we want to leave at DBS and the community we are a part of. Igniting Possibilities, Sparking Joy spans broadcast, social media and digital mediums, with both online and offline advertising. Pre-launch initiatives included an engaging video about the joy of banking at DBS to generate buzz and excitement via social media. Soon after launching on YouTube, the video was ranked the most popular corporate video in Hong Kong. The DBS Spark Campaign Page 2 of 7 DBS Bank (Hong Kong) Limited
