BEFORE YOU BEGIN HOW TO USE THESE INSTRUCTIONS Please read these instructions carefully to familiarize yourself with the required tools, materials, and installation sequences. Follow the sections that pertain to your particular installation. This will help you avoid costly mistakes. In addition to proper installation, read all operating and safety instructions. All information in these instructions is based on the latest product information available at the time of publication. PRODUCT PROPERTIES Fireclay CAUTION: Risk of personal injury or product damage. Fireclay lavatory can chip or break easily if screws are overtightened or product is handled carelessly. PRODUCT REQUIREMENTS IMPORTANT: Make sure that the wall and floor are square and plumb to ensure proper installation. IMPORTANT: The main support for lavatory will be the custom cabinet. It is also necessary that additional support be provided by installing bracing behind finished wall for securing this lavatory. Two people are required for installation. Assemble all tools and materials needed before beginning installation. This instruction covers two types of installations; above-counter and vanity top. Be careful to follow the sections that pertain to your particular installation. Lavatory is intended for installation into a custom cabinet. For other installations, supply suitable wall bracing and fastening devices of sufficient size and strength. UNCRATE LAVATORY Uncrate the lavatory, and inspect for damage. To prevent damage, place the lavatory back into its original packing carton until ready for installation. PREPARATION Shut off main water supply. Rough-in hot/cold water supplies and drain piping. Refer to Fig. #1. For Kohler s recommended lavatory height of 33-3/4, centerline of wall bracing must be 31-1/8 from finished floor. For height variances, adjust wall bracing and centerline height accordingly. ABOVE-COUNTER INSTALLATIONS: Proceed to Section 3. Above-Counter Installation. VANITY TOP INSTALLATIONS: Proceed to Section 4. Vanity Top Installation. 3. ABOVE-COUNTER INSTALLATION NOTE: Lavatory is intended for installation into a custom cabinet. Due to the special nature of this installation, Kohler Co. recommends that an experienced cabinet maker build the new cabinet or modify an existing cabinet for the lavatory. NOTE: To ensure proper lavatory fit in the cabinet, Kohler recommends providing the cabinet maker with the actual lavatory to be installed. NOTE: Be aware of water supply and drain piping clearances when including shelving or drawers in cabinet. Height may be adjusted to accommodate various applications. Fig. #3 CUTOUT CABINET Using template provided, determine which template cutting line is to be used for above-counter installation. Cutting Line Cut out the paper template along appropriate cutting line. Position the template on the countertop. Trace the template on the countertop using a soft lead pencil. Fig. #4 Cut out the opening by carefully following the pencil line traced from the template. Temporarily set the lavatory into the cutout to check fit. Make adjustments if necessary. Remove lavatory. Fig. #5 IMPORTANT: Make sure that the cabinet is level to ensure proper installation. Position and secure cabinet into place. 4
INSTALL FITTINGS Attach faucet and drain on lavatory before installing into cabinet. Use product manufacturer s instructions. INSTALL LAVATORY NOTE: Two people are required for lavatory installation; one to support lavatory and one to guide and attach hardware. Temporarily place lavatory into cutout and center on cabinet. Ensure lavatory is level and drain is properly aligned. Adjust as required. With a soft lead pencil, trace mounting slots located on underside of lavatory onto wall. Also trace along the base of the lavatory onto cabinet top. Remove lavatory. Drill 1/8 hole in center of each mounting slot marking. Î ÎÎ Apply a bead of the supplied adhesive sealant on the inside edge of the traced line. Adhesive Sealant Washer Carefully place lavatory into position aligning mounting slots with drilled holes. From underneath, secure lavatory to wall with washers and lag screws through slots in lavatory. Do not overtighten the screws. Lag Screw CAUTION: Risk of personal injury or product damage. Fireclay lavatory can chip or break easily if screws are over-tightened or product is handled carelessly. Remove excess sealant. Fig. #6 Apply a bead of adhesive sealant between lavatory and wall, and cabinet and wall. Connect P-trap and hot/cold water supplies to lavatory. Turn on hot/cold supplies and run water through lavatory faucet to flush out system. Check for leaks and repair as required. 5
4. VANITY TOP INSTALLATION NOTE: Lavatory is intended for installation into a custom cabinet. Due to the special nature of this installation, Kohler Co. recommends that an experienced cabinet maker build the new cabinet or modify an existing cabinet for the lavatory. NOTE: Due to the manufacturing process of fireclay, each lavatory could vary dimensionally. The cabinet dimensions in Fig. #7 should be verified with your lavatory to ensure proper fit. 29.75 Max. Thickness 17-3/4 32-1/2 Refer to Fig. #7 for recommended cabinet dimensions. NOTE: Be aware of water supply and drain piping clearances when including shelving or drawers in cabinet. NOTE: Using these cabinet dimensions should provide a lavatory overhang of 1-1/4 in front and 1/2 on each side of cabinet. *Recommended overall height with lavatory installed. Height may be adjusted to accommodate various applications. Fig. #7 *33-3/4 CUTOUT CABINET Using template provided, determine which template cutting line is to be used for vanity top installation. Cut out the paper template along appropriate cutting line. Cutting Line Position the template on the vanity and tape in place. Using a soft lead pencil, trace the template on the cabinet. Fig. #8 Cut out the opening by carefully following the pencil line traced from the template. Temporarily set the lavatory into the cutout to check fit. Make adjustments if necessary. Remove lavatory. Fig. #9 IMPORTANT: Make sure that the cabinet is level to ensure proper installation. Position cabinet into place, but do not secure at this time. INSTALL FITTINGS Attach faucet and drain on lavatory before installing into cabinet. Use product manufacturer s instructions. 6
INSTALL LAVATORY NOTE: Two people are required for lavatory installation; one to support lavatory and one to guide and attach hardware. Temporarily place lavatory into cabinet and position vanity into desired location. Ensure lavatory is level and drain is properly aligned. Adjust as required. With a soft lead pencil, trace mounting slots located on underside of lavatory onto wall. Remove lavatory. Drill 1/8 hole in center of each mounting slot marking. Carefully place lavatory into position aligning mounting slots with drilled holes. From underneath, secure lavatory to wall with washers and lag screws through slots in lavatory. Do not overtighten the screws. Washer CAUTION: Risk of personal injury or product damage. Fireclay lavatory can chip or break easily if screws are over-tightened or product is handled carelessly. Lag Screw Secure cabinet. Fig. #10 Apply a bead of adhesive sealant between lavatory and wall, and cabinet and wall. Connect P-trap and hot/cold water supplies to lavatory. Turn on hot/cold supplies and run water through lavatory faucet to flush out system. Check for leaks and repair as required. 7
5. IMPORTANT CONSUMER INFORMATION CONSUMER RESPONSIBILITIES Fireclay Lavatory: If you live in a hard water area, extra cleaning attention to the lavatory is recommended. A simple routine cleaning with a mild cleanser will maintain the lavatory s finish. Do not use abrasive cleansers or solvents. Lavatory Fitting (Kohler Finishes): Clean finish with a mild soap and warm water. Wipe entire surface completely dry with a clean, soft cloth. Do not use abrasive cleansers or solvents. REQUESTING SERVICE Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the Kohler Warranty, its benefits, and limitations. Kohler Co. and its distributors support you with one of the largest Service Networks of its type. Here s what you need to do if you require service: FIRST: Contact the dealer or contractor who sold and installed the product. They should be able to solve any problems you may have. LIMITED ONE-YEAR WARRANTY Kohler plumbing fixtures and fittings are warranted free of manufacturing defects. Kohler Co. will, at its election repair, replace, or make appropriate adjustment where Kohler Co. inspection discloses any such defects occurring in normal usage within one year after installation. Kohler Co. is not responsible for installation costs.
