AESGP 46th Annual Meeting Connecting With Self-Care The Future of Self-Medication in the New Europe Hotel Dubrovnik Palace, Croatia, 9-11 June 2010 ASSOCIATION OF THE EUROPEAN SELF-MEDICATION INDUSTRY

Objectives of The 46th AESGP Annual Meeting the first in Croatia is taking place on the eve of Croatia s accession to the European Union. This is a logical consequence of AESGP s numerous initiatives during the last twenty years to bring the concept of responsible self-care to the attention of all parts of Europe, including Central and Eastern Europe. In the meantime this part of the world is seen as one of the most interesting areas for the future development of self-medication. When thinking about The New Europe there is nevertheless more to consider than geographical expansion alone. New forms of digital consumer information have been developed and are now widely used. But how efficient are these new means of communication and how important are they for consumers and companies in the self-care context? Answers will be presented by leading new-media experts alongside innovative information services on non-prescription medicines offered by AESGP member associations and companies. The New Europe also means impressive new non-prescription medicines, some of them in unknown indication areas, which have now become a reality. Recent experiences will be shared by business leaders and then be discussed by key stakeholder representatives. Particular attention will be paid to the dramatic changes in non-prescription medicines distribution, be it inside or outside pharmacy. The final day of the conference will look at recent developments in healthcare and their implications for the political self-care environment. They are the basis for considerations around new rules for pharmaceuticals and food supplements. While the new legislative provisions on falsified medicines and pharmacovigilance are capturing the particular attention of non-prescription medicines manufacturers, producers of food supplements are being kept busy by the way in which the Regulation on health claims is being implemented. All this together with recent developments in the area of medical devices will be discussed with representatives of government authorities during the entire conference, but particularly also at the end of the event. In addition to a full business programme, a number of social events will provide ample opportunity for networking and informal exchanges. the meeting

Friday 11 June 2010 09.00-10.30 HEALTH AND ECONOMICS: NEW MODELS OF COOPERATION The economic and social value of self-care is today widely recognised.
