For DPN users: This pattern involves cables that cross the center of the instep; this will be across the break between needles. Rearrange your sts as necessary to complete these sts. ML (Make Left-leaning ): PU the bar between st just worked and next st and place on needle as a regular ; knit through the back loop. MR (Make Right-leaning ): PU the bar between st just worked and next st and place on needle backwards (incorrect mount). Knit through the front loop. DIRECTIONS Toe Using Backwards loop CO, cast on 8 sts (for a narrow toe, 0 for average, and for a wider toe). Knit across these sts. Turning work so that cast-on edge is on top and working yarn is to the right of the work, PU and knit into each cast-on st (including the slip knot). You are now working in the round. If using DPNs, arrange so that first 8 (0, ) sts are distributed over two needles; these will be the instep. You may distribute sole sts over two needles as well if you wish. The RS should be facing you. Work across RS to the first YO. If you need to, correct the mount of the YO; knit it with the next st. Turn work and backwards-yo; purl to first YO. Correct the mount of the YO if needed, and then SSP: slip the YO as if to knit, the next st as if to knit, return them to the LH needle and purl through the back loop. Turn work, and backwards YO. Work to the first YO. There will be two YOs; knit these with the next st, turn, and backwards YO. All remaining RS rows will be completed in this manner. Purl to first YO. There will be two YOs; slip these and the following st as if to knit, place back on LH needle, and purl all three through the back loop. Turn work and backwards YO. All remaining WS rows will be completed in this manner. Rejoin round After the last sts on either side have been worked, there will be two flanking YOs. On the RS, work up to the YO and slip it onto the RH needle. PU st between YO and the first instep st; place this and YO on LH needle and knit them tog with the first st of instep. (If pattern states that first st is not a knit, work as stated in the pattern.) Work in pattern across instep to last st. Slip this st to RH needle, PU st in the gap between the st and the YO on the heel needle, and then move the YO to the instep needle. Pass these three sts onto LH needle and knit them.
