From: Bill Waite, Program Director, Oswegatchie Educational Center Shari Lighthall, New York Ag Education and Outreach RE: Environmental & Leadership Development Program The Oswegatchie Educational Center is offering 33% funded Environmental and Leadership Development programs to be implemented at the center during the November 2016. Funding for these programs has been made possible by NY Ag Education and Outreach. All secondary Agricultural Science, Environmental / Conservation CTE programs may apply for these special opportunities. See the attached Request for Proposals for requirements and details. All proposals must be postmarked or emailed by October 15th 2016 Please do not delay your proposals. Since 2000, Oswegatchie has hosted these environmental and leadership development programs at the center. We are looking forward to giving this opportunity to your students again this year. The Oswegatchie Educational Center is situated on a 1200 acre expanse of land inside the Adirondack Park. This setting provides the perfect atmosphere for learning about our natural world. Oswegatchie Educational Center Fall 2016 Environmental & Leadership Development Program REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS Funding Level: This is an 33% Grant Program. The total program cost is $120 per student; the grant will cover 33% per student. The school or student is responsible for the remaining 66% equal to $80 per student. This covers all meals, lodging, and programming costs. Transportation cost is not cover by this grant. This year we are offering 3 different dates in November. Example of a 2 Night Grant Value: Sponsored By NY AG Education and Outreach True cost is $120/student X 10 students = $1200 33% paid by grant makes your cost $80/student X 10 students = $800 Your Savings with Grant is $400! Our 2016 Dates are: November 6 8 November 9 11 November 16-18 Sunday to Tuesday Wednesday to Friday Wednesday to Friday All Secondary Agricultural Science, Environmental / Conservation CTE programs may apply! Program Objectives: Students will recognize basic concepts in wildlife, forestry, aquatic ecology, & land use.. Students will practice skills used in NYS Envirothon & FFA Career Development Events Students will develop appreciation for our natural world. Students will practice valuable problem solving skills. Students will expand cooperation & teamwork while developing mutual support Students will increase awareness of Environmental and Agricultural post secondary education and career opportunities. Eligibility: All Secondary Agricultural Science, Environmental / Conservation CTE programs are eligible for this opportunity! Reservations due by Due Date: October 15th, 2016. What is the TEAM Challenge Ropes Course? The TEAM Challenge Ropes Course at Oswegatchie is a tool used to enhance group development and personal growth through fun learning games, trust initiatives, and low & high ropes elements. An emphasis is placed on group success and enhancing self-confidence. Team Challenge Goals Develop and improve upon valuable problem solving skills. Advance cooperation and team work. Increase and enrich communication. Place and better trust in others as well as self. Build upon personal and group desire to succeed and accomplish goals. To develop appreciation of and identification with our natural world. To have fun in a safe, "challenge by choice" environment! A view of Long Pond. One of the four pond on Oswegatchie s 1200 acres. Sutliff is a modern lodge that can accommodate up to 80 guests. The sleeping accommodations include 10 individual rooms that contain 2-4 beds each, and two large dormitories that sleep 24 each. The main floor contains the industrial kitchen, main room with a fireplace, and game room with recreational equipment. 5
