Bits and Pieces Brazos Bluebonnet Quilt Guild Newsletter Volume 39, No. 6, June 2016 Anne Perry, Editor Maggie McGuire, Co-Editor BBQG President s Note June, 2016 Hi all It is raining again. I am so thankful for the water in spite of the flooding. If anyone knows of a site to help the flood victims, let me know. Some just lost everything they had. Normally I would be sewing on a day like this and hope you are doing so. I have other things going on today. It is a very patriotic month. Memorial day and then flag day. And not to forget the fathers. This is a great time to use up those red, white, and blues. Also, please remember that we have a new bee forming. It is a Quilts of Valor bee. I think the contact is Maggie McGuire. Kudos to them. We need so many of those quilts. Many coming back that need to be reminded that we care about the sacrifice s they made. When father s day comes around I always think of plaids and fish. lol My dad loved to fish. And plaids always looked good on him. I know a lot of men wear plaids. How about using the old shirts in a quilt. I have seen quite a few made and they were outstanding. Just a few ideas for the summer. June is also the month for weddings. Now, that opens up a whole new world. I like to take the things left over,(wedding fabric, etc) and do a wall hanging or quilt with them incorporated. Makes a great gift for the couple at the 1st anniversary. Have you ever noticed that up north they do most of the quilting in the winter and we tend to sew in the summer when it is HOT. I am not looking forward to the heat. So I am outdoors as much as possible, getting ideas for the quilts. And, loving on my garden. I have a great cuke ready to pick. Boy is it big. I am looking forward to the quilt show in Giddings. Only thing going on in June. You know I love to go, go, go. lol Will see you on Care Quilt day. Hope we get a lot made this year. There are always those in need. Peace and hugs to all, Sue Idol President, BBQG June Board Meeting The board meeting will be Monday, June 6th at 6:00 pm at Hobby Lobby. Please join us. All are welcome. Bring us your ideas We would love to hear them. BBQG Membership Report - May Member Meeting Nadine Stuth reported 68 members and 2 visitors from the Caldwell Guild in attendance.

Quilt n Peace Bee contributed 16 quilts to the St. Mary s Quilt Show on April 29 and 30. Nine members traveled to Plantersville on Friday to see all the quilts and enjoyed shopping with the vendors and eating there. The last two Tuesdays were extra busy with sorting donated material and supplies. Our stash of scraps is being thinned by cutting into standard usable pieces -2.5, 5, 6, 10 inches square and strips 2.5 inches by WOF. That will make care quilts easier to sew together. We turned in seven care quilts and three Books and A Blanket quilts at the May meeting.
