I am sure you are as busy as we are getting your house decorated, cookies baked, gifts made, packages wrapped, and the list goes on. We have decided to do a light December class schedule due to the holiday bustle. This Saturday, December 7, is our 2 nd annual Year of Savings Sale. You won t want to miss this event with sales throughout the shop. We re printing even more coupon books than last year, but you ll want to get here early so you don t miss out. The RED door (off 25 th Street) opens at 9 am. Santa and his Elf will be there early with coffee and goodies. Wednesday, December 4, is Cutting Up at Noon. Take time out of your busy day and see what Claudia has to share with you. She loves tools and is always excited to inspire you. The Crazy Quilters have changed their meeting date. All hand stitchers are welcome to join them on Thursday, December 12 from 7-9 pm. Since we will be closed Christmas Eve, Demo and Dessert with be Tuesday, December 17. Everyone is welcome to come see what s new and enjoy a tasty treat. I thought you might like a peak at the upcoming Block of the Months we will be starting in 2014. The new embroidery block of the month from Hoopsisters, Jacobean Journey has just arrived in the shop and construction of the sample is about to begin. Its hard to believe this quilt is done using just 4 fabrics and 4 thread colors. The quilt can be done Snippets from Sandy 1 D E C E M B E R 2 0 1 3 in 5, 6, 7, 8 or 9 blocks; block size determines the finished quilt size. Ideas are also given to use the blocks in placemats, table runners, and bed runners. For all of you working on the Feathered Star I know many of you have a ways to go to complete your quilt. I have decided to extend the deadline to Saturday, February 1. We will have a wrap up party that afternoon. Bring your finished quilts and any other projects you ve made from the blocks to the party. Everyone with a finished quilt will receive a gift. Simpler Times is a lovely block of the month done in the new Kimberly s Garden 1930 s line of fabric. We are waiting for the pattern to arrive and then Claudia will be busy keeping a few months ahead of you. Fresh Water Designs, the fabric manufacturer, donates a portion of their proceeds to benefit cancer research. Bertie s Year quilt of the month is designed by Bonnie Sullivan. Bertie is a charming bird featured in each quilt. These adorable quilts are projects that are easy to tackle one month at a time. Woolies flannels from Maywood and wools are used to make these little quilts. Connections designed by Whirligig Designs is done in Artisan Batiks by Robert Kaufman. The finished quilt measures 104 x104. The purples, blues, and creams are sure to be a favorite. This quilt will be on display in the shop shortly. Youth Sewing Block of the Month We ll be continuing with our block of the month through the end of the year. If you haven t started yet, we re taking names to put together another class! BYOM Class fee is $5. Saturday, Dec. 21: 1-4 pm Beginning Sewing Tote Bag Learn sewing technique such as cutting accurately, sewing seams, matching seams, adding lining, topstitching, and turning a tube. At the end of the class you ll have a finished tote bag. $70 includes all supplies, pattern, and use of a sewing machine. Monday, Dec. 9: 5-9 pm Friday, Dec. 13: 2-6 pm, Monday, Dec. 16: 11 am-3 pm, Saturday, Dec. 28: 11 am-3 pm, Class Policies Call or stop in to sign up and pay for the class of your choice. Class fee is due when you register. Phone registrations (701-433-7203) accepted only with a charge card payment. The class supply list will be available when you register and pay for the class. Supplies are not included in the class fee. Please have supplies purchased before class. Kits required are available at the store. BYOM means bring your own machine. No photocopied patterns or books will be allowed in classes. We consider your enrollment to be a commitment by you to take the class and we in turn make a commitment to the instructor. No cancellations are allowed on classes. Thank you for not asking us to make exceptions. Your sewing machine or serger must be in top working condition before you arrive at class. Students whose equipment is not working properly disturb and slow down the class. We service all brands of machines and sergers so come see us prior to the start of the class. If you get together a group of 2 or more friends, we would be happy to setup a class date and time just for you. 2
Crazy Quilters Squared Join the Crazy Quilters Squared to work on handwork. No experience necessary, just a desire to learn. No charge. Thursday, December 12: 7-9 pm Create with Embroidery Learn a new machine embroidery technique each month through Anita Goodesign video tutorials. Each video explains the project and step by step how tos. You ll receive a packet with the embroidery design needed for the project and additional bonus designs ($60 value). You ll also be able to pick up your Party with Patrick pattern and see the next project. You don t have to be participating in Party with Patrick to attend Demo & Dessert. Tuesday, December 17: 1 pm or 6:30 pm PhD (projects half done) Study Hour Let s make this the year to finish all those half done projects! On Thursday, we ll have the classroom available to work on your projects. As an added incentive we ll be giving you 5% off for every project you complete up to 50% off a regular priced item of $50 or less. Thursday, December 5, 12, & 19: 12-4 or 4-8 pm No PhD on December 26 due to the holidays. December 19 is the last day to show completed projects for the coupon. Come as often or as little as you d like, but please preregister 24 hours in advance. Stitcher s Society Stitcher s Society is a group for hand embroiders (beginners and those with experience). Each month we ll be learning new stitches and making gorgeous wool appliques on hexagons (wool, cotton, or flannel backgrounds). At the end of the program, you can turn your hexagons into a quilt or use them in smaller projects. Saturday, December 14: 1-3 pm 3
