Class # 301 Saturday September 19 h / Time: 8-12 / Cost: $30 Wooly Tree Teacher: Susan Nonn Class Description: Learn to make the wool version of the German "feather tree". This wooly pine tree measures approximately 18" tall and looks good all year around! All supplies will be included in the $30 fee for the class. Please bring a pair of sharp fabric scissors. The tiny gourd ornaments and garlands made in a later class would be perfect on your new little tree. This class is easy and fun: not a lot of supplies, finished in four hours or less, any skill level and everyone leaves with a Wooly tree. Experience: All experience levels welcome. Complete Kit o Sharp pair of scissors (I recommend Tim Holtz Non Stick Serrated Snip Scissors-Ergonomic Large)

You will have the opportunity to create (18 mini ornaments) Picking from instructors designs of pears, owls, jack-o-lanterns, witches birdhouses or swirling globes. This class is designed so that students will finish their piece in class. Experience: Intermediate experience level. Class #304 Saturday September 19 th / Time: 9-4 / Cost: $90 Step it Up Teacher: Vickie Hartman Class Description: You will get to learn several pine needle coiling techniques with this gourd basket. You will first learn how to attach a foot to a round bottomed gourd to create your own gourd stand. You will then learn how to create a step-up pattern around the rim with the black walnut slices and learn different ways of finishing off your coiling. The pine needle are glycerinated so they are extremely flexible and gentle to your hands. Experience: All experience levels; most students will finish the project in class. Some may not, I will provide a tutorial for them to take home to help them finish on their own. Class #305 Saturday September 19 th / Time: 8-5 / Cost: $70 Standing Ocean Jewel Teacher: Rosario Wilke Class Description: Using a tall body gourd, students will learn step by step how to create this beautiful pearlized Nautilus shell. They will be using stick and burn pattern to accelerate the process of the design and will execute an advanced detail filigree carving technique, creating a lace-like delicate and airy decorative composition. Do to the different skill levels will focus on finishing the shell in class and the painting of the back of the gourd will be done at home. They will also work on stippling, glazing and the use of acrylic paints with translucent metallic powders to give the shell its beautiful pearlized iridescent white/ pink tone. Finishing up, they will learn to inlay copper wire to accentuate the curvature of the shell, giving this wonderful piece of art work a rich and elegant finish. Experience: Intermediate Skill Level Written Tutorial Stick and burn pattern Clean craft ready canteen Gourd Copper wire Matte and Metallic paints, acrylic paints, iridescent metallic powders, glazes & spray sealer o Quality dusk mask o Wood Burner with your favorite tip o Dremel or similar rotary tool (no cordless) o Burrs, 190 or 191 & (your burr box) o Small electric sander (med and fine grit paper), Sanding Sponges and Rifler files o Your favorite inks or dyes o Small and medium size flat paint brushes o Gorilla super glue, Pair of gloves & Pencil o Small nose pliers and wire cutters, power strip, Gourding tool Box o Power strip, General Gourding tool Box will be helpful

Class #306 Saturday September 19 th / Time: 8-12 / Cost: $50 Woodburning 101 Teacher: Betty Lake Class Description Skews, knifes, balls, spears, loops, shaders, spooners, standard or replacement pens, gliding on and off, tight circles, a strop and aluminum oxide use. Dazed by the vocabulary and choices, then join me and I will reveal the mystery behind the tools and techniques of wood burning on a gourd. All questions- dumb and otherwise- will be addressed because I have already made all the mistakes! Learn cutting and shading techniques, plus safety and maintenance guidelines. A beginner or practiced, I have some tips you can use with any coloring media. I have used them all and will share my techniques. We will practice on paper, then shards until you are ready to wood burn one of my three easy-to draw patterns on your shard pendant. The perfect shape gourd will be provided and detailed written instructions. Draw the pattern and cut it open. We will talk about how to use your gourd saw and tips on how to cut on the lines.
