New Guy, New Girl Trunk show November 1 to 21 Kate Oates has created two beautiful ensembles to greet the new baby in your life in style. New Guy and New Girl each feature 5 pieces sized from preemie to toddler. Garments also have variations in sleeve and leg length. All the garments from these two booklets will be visiting Sheep s Clothing in November to help you make your baby knitting plans. IrishCrochet Friday 1 to 4 pm Oct 12 Come make an Irish crochet rose and leaf with Laura Ricketts, author of Irish Crochet Cuffs in July/August 2015 PieceWork magazine. You ll work 3 pieces to create your three dimensional flower: the outer petals, the rose center, and the leaf. While you re working on your class project, Laura will share her knowledge of the history of Irish Crochet. Traditionally this type of crochet would have been worked in very fine cotton or linen. Your learning piece can be worked in a smooth sport weight cotton or wool. Students must be very comfortable working chain, single, double and half-double crochet. Laura teaches at Nordic knitting conferences across the country. We re fortunate that she lives nearby and can teach regularly at Sheep s Clothing. She s had many articles published in PieceWork and Knitting Traditions magazines. She loves to help people learn from and be inspired by our knitting and crochet cultural heritage. All Day Mitten Add the practical art of mitten making to your skill set in this all day class. Your class mitten will be done in a bulky yarn so that you can complete it during class. You ll work with our own shop mitten pattern written for all sizes and weights of yarn. Once you master this mitten making formula, you ll never be more than a couple hours away from a new pair of mittens and warm hands for anyone on your knit list. Oct 20 10:30 am to 4:30 pm Teacher: Debbie Fair Isle Christmas Stocking Begin that Christmas stocking on your to do list now, when there is no holiday pressure and the luxury of time to enjoy your knitting. This class is perfect for first time fair-isle knitters. Debbie loves introducing people to color stranded knitting and has a bag of tricks to help you be successful. The planing process is also interesting to experienced fair-isle knitters. Choose your own combination of charts for traditional Christmas motifs from a selection that includes all the favorites such as Santas, candy canes, hearts, snowflakes, Xmas trees, and reindeer. Alphabet charts are included to knit in or duplicate stitch a name on your stocking 2 Thursday 6 to 8 pm October 11, 18, 25 $45 plus supplies Teacher: Debbie

FloatingStars Stars are common in folk knitting traditions because they are easy to memorize and fun to work. This capelet uses enlarged versions of the traditional star shape with lots of space between the stars. To make this work, we ll need to master a technique called continuous trapping so that the long floats of yarn between stars will be safely anchored in the knit fabric. This class will give you a new technique to add to your fair isle tool box. We ll also explore it s history involving Armenian expats living in Paris in the early 20th century. Class participants will also receive a pattern for companion fingerless gloves. Tuesday November 6, 13, 20, 27 2 pm or 7 pm Teacher: Paula 3 Tracery Norah Gaughan s short sleeved pullover design uses panels of lacework to create a funky, rugged lace look. We are reyarning this design in Brielle, a new yarn by Berroco that has a very subtle hint of sparkle. This design keeps the garment shaping outside of the lace panels, making it surprisingly easy to create this look. Tuesday 3 pm OR 7 pm Oct 9, 16, 23, 30 Teacher: Paula $60 plus supplies TREASURE HUNT SALE 25% OFF Look for the Treasure Chest on yarn tags throughout the shop

Hopkins Jill Zielinski, the Plucky Knitter, uses the honeycomb cable for the body of this poncho. Classic cables outline the two arm slits, which come together after the slit to create a pleasing shoulder detail. You ll finish off with a cozy cowl neck. Work it in your choice of a smooth worsted weight yarn. Thursday Nov 8, 15, 29, Dec 6 6 to 8 pm Teacher: Debbie Asymmetric Cardie This cardigan is a first sweater friendly project taught by Kate, who truly loves to help people achieve a wearable piece to be proud of on the very first go. You ll work with an easy to understand pattern published by Knitting Pure and Simple. Kate will also have you try on your sweater in progress at appropriate points along the way so that you can make fit adjustments as needed. Your choice of a bulky yarn will make the knitting go faster so you ll be ready for warm days this winter. Thursday Nov 8, 15, 29, Dec 6, 13 1 to 3 pm $60 plus supplies 4 Teacher: Kate

Caterpillar to Butterfly Scarf&Wrap This easy knit piece in humble garter stitch will morph before your very eyes into a graceful fashion piece. Planned dropped stitches create the fabric. You ll feel like you are watching a butterfly emerging from its cocoon when you let the stitches drop all the way down to the cast on. In this class you will make a small sample piece while learning the critical secrets to success for this project. Secret number one is choosing an appropriate yarn. Kate will help you understand the yarn characteristics that work well for this project. She ll have a basket of suitable choices for your class sample piece. Secret number two is in the right beginning. And finally, secret number three is Kate s special bind off. Thursday Nov 1 1 to 4 pm $40 includes yarn Teacher: Kate 5 Granger This top down cardigan uses Berroco s new yarn, Pixel, a gentle self striping yarn with a sprinkling of small dots of color. The designer adds some refinements to the basic top down raglan formula. These refinements are done to achieve a better fit. Heidi will help you create the roadmap that will make it easy to navigate these pattern details. You ll also enjoy knitting in the handy pockets. Friday Nov 9, 16, 30, Dec 7 1 to 3 pm Teacher: Heidi

Felt Clogs Clogs are knit XXXL size in wool and then run through the washing machine to shrink the wool into a tight, firm fabric. Susan will share her tips and tricks to help you keep track of the wrap and turns and increases that create the clog shaping. There are size options for every family member. Every new pair that Susan creates has a new element of creativity. She ll show you how to use needle felting to add a name, a flower, a soccer ball, a snowman, snowflake, or whatever embellishment you want. You can even add a jester fringe to the cuff for a real touch of whimsey. Oct 27, Nov 3, 10 1 to 3 pm Teacher: Susan 6 Gnome Do you have a friend or relative spending Thanksgiving weekend with you? How about doing a class together at Sheep s Clothing? This one session class requires no prior experience in knitting or crocheting. Your needle felted gnome can be done in earth and forest colors. Or choose red and green, call him a Christmas elf, and hang him on your tree. The shaping techniques you will learn in class will be useful for future needle felting projects. Your class fee includes wool for the gnome and a complete needle felting starter kit. November 24 1 to 4 pm $45 includes all supplies Teacher: Susan Childress

Socks: Cuff Down Begin your sock at the cuff so you will have plenty of time to get comfortable knitting in the round on small needles before learning how to shape the heel and toe with a heel flap and gusset. Finish the sock with kitchener stitch so that there will be no seam at the toe of your socks. This is the preferred class for first time sock knitters. Thursday 1 to 3 pm Oct 4, 11, 18, 25 Teacher: Kate Baby Lace & Leaves A classic leaf motif forms the yoke of this sweet little baby cardie. There are two choices of hat to complete your outfit to welcome baby. The classic bonnet style hat uses the leaf motif on the back of the head. The other hat option features a stem sprouting at the top of the hat--perfect for the new little sprout in your family. Sizing is done with your choice of yarn, fingering for preemie size, DK/sport for newborn size, and medium weight yarn for size 3 to 6 months. Wednesday Oct 10, 17, 24, Nov 7 5:30 to 7:30 pm Teacher: Susan 7

Cocoknits Julie Weisenberger of Cocoknits has created a top down, seamless sweater making system that imitates the look of a set in sleeve. It is a perfect technique for enjoying a fiber while making a quick, simple, classic sweater. Sometimes seamless sweaters suffer from lack of structure that causes them to lose shape. Julie Weisenberger has conquered this problem by adapting the English Tailored Shoulder to hand knitting. Her techniques give your sweater good bones, providing structure and support in the critical shoulder area. The goal of this class is to get you comfortable with the Cocoknits basic sweater system and help you see how you can easily make small modifications to get the sweater you want. Julie's methods will help you think about gauge in a new way, knitting yarns at looser gauges than the ball band suggests. There will be sweater options at 3, 4, and 5 stitches per inch. Friday 4 to 6 pm Nov 2, 9, 16, 30 Teacher: Paula TREASURE HUNT SALE 25% OFF Look for the Treasure Chest on yarn tags throughout the shop 8
