I always enjoy the growing season but it is unfortunate it interferes with my sewing. I find myself a bit behind schedule. I have been working on new samples and blocks for our new classes, clubs and block-of-the-months. I am looking forward to the big reveal on September 27th!! I am so excited! We have some REALLY fun projects planned. I like it to be a surprise, but this time I did give a big tease on page 5. You ll want to come and check everything out - sign up early to save your place! We are still working on Spring/Summer block-of-the-month classes. Bertie s Year patterns and kits are still available for those of you that would like to participate. These are little folk-art flannel quilts made for each month of the year! Each month for 12 months we have been making one 13 x 17 quilt using piecing, appliqué and embroidery techniques. The kits are just $24 each and include backing and binding. We also have the embellishment packs and a collection of six 77- yard balls of size 8 Presencia pearl cotton. This little bird and her antics are so cute and perfect for both beginners and the experienced quilter! It s great to have a new small project every month! Rainbow Garden is our beautiful wool appliqué quilt by Heart to Hand. This easy but striking quilt is wool on primitive cotton backgrounds. We are stitching wool appliqué with embroidery and beaded embellishment. This fully washable quilt is 64 x 74 when done. Patterns are still available and class notes are on the blog. We are on block #6. Merry Meets Modern is a fun Christmas quilt using the ultra modern Bella Solids. There are 10 pieced blocks, 10 appliqué blocks and 10 setting blocks. Four classes left! The art of quilting is rich in history. There are women who blazed the trail before us, leaving us with quilts and remnants of both fabrics and stories of how they lived, and what quilts meant to them. You are invited to join a unique monthly club that will take you on a journey back in time. Gather together as the "Prairie Women" did, and hear anecdotal stories about their quilt making, and what daily life was like for those who traveled by wagon train on the Oregon Trail. At each monthly gathering of the Prairie Women s Sewing Circle, you will receive a small reproduction quilt project pattern that will allow you the option to share in the unique Make-Do quilting experience. Monthly patterns and other surprises will be offered exclusively to PWSC club members! Club meets one Wed eve/month for 6 months and is only $60 for all patterns, prizes and classes. A new series starts the first Wednesday in October! Blockwatchers is a fun club with a new focus every year. This season we will continue to concentrate on our round robin class/exchange. It is a fun way to learn interesting border techniques and get a special quilt finished by friends!! You bring a center block/panel and 6 half yards of fabric that you would like used. We swap each month following a discussion about great border options, repeating this process each month for four months. When you finally see your block again it is a lovely wallhanging or quilt!! This is a fun way to get a project completed by someone else!! Class size limited to 12. Only $20 for complete 4 month series!! Not appropriate for beginners. We love fusible appliqué projects! Super simple, but stunning results, all in four easy steps: trace, iron, cut, iron. Snow Buds is by McKenna Ryan. It is nine 14 inch blocks that can done individually or sewn together into a big winter quilt. We still have patterns available. Our classroom series ends in November.
$5 QUILT STARTING AGAIN!!!!! PAGE 4 Our last two $5 Quilts have been odd sizes - we did a 5 block, then we did a 14 block. so much fun!?!?? Now, back to our standard 12 blocks. We will demonstrate 12 blocks, as well as bonus blocks that can be used for king sized quilts and setting options (see inset). Fabric requirements are 2 yards of background and a 6 half yard cuts that are light to dark in the color you prefer. We will have specially packaged kits available at our first classes. Stop in for a set of rules. Pay $5 to join, then every class and pattern will be free as long as you complete your block and come to class on time! Several door prizes at every class. Tuesdays, Fridays, Saturdays...we just want the class to be 10-4pm the time that is convenient for you. It would be tragic for you to have to skip a desired class 26 27 28 29 30 31 because it was scheduled for a time you were unavailable. Sign up for the class you want - but act quickly so we get the time you would like. Open house is September 27th, club series dates and times will be determined by October 1st. This is a perfect class for a beginner who wants to learn two new techniques, an experienced quilter will enjoy the speed of piecing a quilt like this, and all of the extra gift items that the pattern comes with! FALL 2014 PAGE 7 For the past 15 years we have scheduled over 2800 classes. Unbelievable isn t it!! How many have you taken?? I try to teach everything that is requested, so if your favorite techniques or events have not shown up, please speak up. You can see me in the shop or email me. We can easily add to the calendar, and of course if at least three do not sign up, we will take it away. We have found that our quilters generally like to be in a club or series so they can develop friendships and a sense of community, and we certainly like that too!! However, there are some clubs that are monthly, but priced individually so you can just come occasionally, these include Pincushion Club and the Pre-Cut Association; where you complete one project that day.
