EAST FORK TREASURE HUNTERS ASSOCIATION Our Club NEWSLETTER April 2017 ABOUT OUR CLUB: Founded in 2005, we are a family friendly, fun-seeking group of folks that enjoy the hobby of metal detecting, searching for lost coins, jewelry, or other treasures that are surely out there. We help clean up parks and responsibly recover items following our digging ethics. Typically we meet on the first Thursday of every month and our meetings are open to the public. We would love to have you as a member or would just welcome your friendly visit. Lost something and need our help finding it? Visit our website or email us at eastforktreasure@gmail.com. Our club Newsletter helps keep our members informed about the activities and adventures of our metal detecting club. We welcome your visit! Our next club meeting will be on Thursday, April 6th at the gymnasium inside the New World United Methodist Church, 5134 Northwest Highway, Garland, TX 75043, from 7 9 pm. Look for the EFTHA sign! (The GPS coordinates are: N 32 51 20.56 W 96 38 10.05.). Our next Fun Hunt (members only) is scheduled for the Saturday following the meeting week. There will be further details and maps at the next meeting, on our FB page, or from an email blast. OUR CLUB OFFICERS: PRESIDENT: Earl H. VICE PRESIDENT: Andrew P. TREASURER: Mary P. SECRETARY: Rheia D. Our appreciated volunteers! Finds of the Month Coordinator: Andretta L. Huntmaster: Bill A. Webmaster: John W. Newsletter: Steve D. I heard one of our members found a top prize token at the East Texas Piney Woods Relic Hunt. At the next meeting, we will have the Charles Garrett Memorial Hunt behind us. I'll bet their will be a lot of Happy hunters with plenty of stories to tell us. Then we have the TAMDC convention coming up later in the month. This is always a great time. Come support your club. The 3rd clue has been given for the cache at this writing. The 4th clue should really help and if we have to the 5th clue should just about pinpoint it's location. I hope we can award the Silver Half Dollar at the April meeting. We will be announcing what the club will be awarding to members that bring in guest/visitors to the club meetings and what will be awarded if that person joins the club. Dave Totzke will be the Speaker in April. Dessert Fundraiser cook off in May. Members only Club Hunt In June (make sure you are up to date on your club dues). Silent Auction Fundraiser in August (Start thinking of items you would be willing to donate to help the club make some money. Does not have to be metal detecting related), We will be having Pizza at the April meeting. (Members, Please bring something to go with Pizza. Drinks, Fruit or Desserts). MARCH FUN HUNT AT FLAG POLE HILL PARK: 13 brave souls came out in the cool wind to hunt Flagpole Hill Park. Charles L, Don B, Steve D, Lee G, Tom C, Aaron S, Curtis H, John W, Joe R, David S and Mary P hunted for the Jackpot Token. It took just a few minutes for John W to find it and win the Jackpot. Huntmaster Bill A and his assistant Rheia D were cheering from the sideline. The categories were: Jewelry- Tom C took first with a silver pendant, John W took second with eyeglass piece, Most Nickels- there were three found to learn fist place the three hunters guessed a number between 1 and 10 David S came in first, Curtis H second and John W third. Best Objectwas the third category Charles L won first with a small key and Aaron S took second with a frog. We had a great time. Plans for the April hunt are underway. See you next time, Huntmaster Bill. PS: President Earl hid a small cache box in this area with some nice coins in it and a note to contact him upon discovering it. Congratulations to clubmember Tom Cartwright for finding the cache! Lucky hunter John W found the Jackpot token and won the prize! In April, lucky hunter Tom Cartwright found the hidden cache. Way to go, Tom! These pop-tops ring in as "quarters" so we did a lot of them, then we dispose of them properly. As always, stacks of trash were dug up and disposed of in the trash cans, making it cleaner for www.eastforktreasurehunters.com eastforktreasure@gmail.com Page 2 of 6

TAMDC COIN FUNDRAISER TICKETS FOR SALE NOW! Our club is already making preperations to attend the 2017 TAMDC show on April 21st and 22nd, and for our Main Coin Fundraiser we will have up a Dos Peso gold coin, 3 "Morgan type" silver rounds and 2 Morgan Silver dollars (1881-O, 1897-S), all independant prizes! At the next meeting, you will have the opportunity to purchase tickets. See our club Treasurer Mary for that. OUR BOOTH PLANS: Our booth theme this year is "Fishing for Treasure", so along with the Main Coin Fundraiser, we are also planning on having our "Reel of Fortune" fundraiser game and also the "Fishing for Treasure" fundraiser game. The prizes for both games are Merc dimes, 1/2 oz copper rounds, or a toy (barrel of monkeys or stuffed sea life). Each game cost only $1 to play. The odds of winning a silver dime will be about 1 in 7 for each game. The club purchased 200 copper rounds for prizes come in 6 varieties. These are very nice rounds and no doubt will go fast! Collect all 6 at the show! See ya there! ANDREWS ARK!: At the March meeting we had a fascinating talk from Andrew Potter about the Ark and the true to scale replica he made. He outlined specific details about how it was constructed and covered points on how "Hollywood" differed slightly from the Biblical text. Also who may have the Ark today! Andrews replica took him quite a while to plan out and construct. The angels on top were casted from the same molds as was used in the movie "Raiders of the Lost Ark"! Andrew even painstakingly gilded the Ark in sheets of gold because gold painting "just didn't look right". WOW! We can see the great effort and expense it went into this truly awesome and inspiring replica! Andrew is a teacher and uses the Ark in his classroom along with many other cool "hands on" pieces of history. What a great way to learn! Thank you Andrew for the great talk and for bringing in the Ark! www.eastforktreasurehunters.com eastforktreasure@gmail.com Page 5 of 6

Its a delicious time to bring in your favorite dessert dish and let our judges happily decide which is the "best in texas" this year!
