1 of 1 GO! Tumbler Baby Quilt finished size 38" x 40" SEWING DIRECTIONS 1. Cut 12 tumbler shapes of various fabrics in half vertically. 2. Layout 12 rows of 14 tumbler shapes. Alternate the wide and narrow ends of the tumblers so they lay in a straight line. Add one half tumbler shape to each end of each row. 3. Pin and sew two tumbler shapes right sides together aligning the notched corners. The top and bottom sewn edges should be straight and even. Adjust your seam allowance as needed. 4. Pin and sew additional tumbler shapes to complete Row 1. 5. Press seams in one direction. Label Row 1. 6. Pin, sew and label 11 more rows. 7. Press seams in alternating directions for each row. 8. Lightly press horizontal and vertical centers of star block. 10. Remove paper backing from all appliqué shapes. 11. Position four, Fabric #1, 4" (Fig. D) hearts on star block using photo and pressed centers as a guide. Points of hearts should meet in center of star block. Fuse in place following manufacturer s directions. (Fig. E) 12. Machine appliqué around heart shapes using a narrow zig zag stitch and matching thread. 13. Position Fabric #2, 3" circle on (Fig. E) center of heart flower. Fuse in place. Machine appliqué with matching thread. 14. Position Fabric #1, 2" circle on center of larger circle. Fuse in place. Machine appliqué with matching thread. 15. Measure vertical center of star block. Cut two, Fabric #5, 2 1 2" inner border strips to this measurement. 16. Pin and sew trimmed inner borders to sides of star block matching center of inner border to center of block edge. 17. Press seams toward inner borders. 18. Measure horizontal center of star block (with side inner borders). Cut two, Fabric #5, 2 1 2" inner border strips to this measurement. 19. Pin and sew trimmed inner border to top and bottom of star block matching center of inner border to center of block edge. 20. Press seams toward inner borders. 21. Layout 4 1 2" border squares according to diagram. (Fig. F) Pin and sew together. 22. Press seams in one direction (Fig. F) (or toward darker fabrics). 23. Make four border square units. 24. Pin and sew one border square unit to each side of table topper center. See photo for orientation. 25. Press seams toward inner border. 26. Pin and sew one Fabric #5, 4 1 2" square to each end of two border square units. (Fig. G) (Fig. G) 27. Pin and sew one border square unit to top and bottom of table topper center. See photo on page 1 for orientation. 28. Press seams toward inner border. 29. Remove any markings and press table topper top. 30. Layer batting between top and backing. 31. Pin or baste layers together. 32. Quilt as desired. Model was machine quilted outlining flower appliqué and with small loops in large circle with matching thread. Remainder of table topper was quilted with an overall loopy design. 33. Remove any markings and press quilt if desired. 34. Add binding, mitering corners. OPTIONS Combine several appliquéd star blocks for a larger size quilt. Use three appliquéd star blocks for a table runner. Use one appliquéd star block for a pillow. Add borders to make quilt larger. Layout black and white 6½" squares in a checkerboard design. 2. Pin and sew squares into rows. Press seams toward black squares. 3. Pin and sew rows together to form quilt center.
