FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: June 21, 2007 CONTACT: Susan Taylor, CMP Vice President/Director of Professional Development Young Bankers Elect New Leadership NASHVILLE Delegates of the of the (TBA) elected new officers and directors for 2007-08 during their annual Leadership Convention, held April 22 24 at the Perdido Beach Resort in Orange Beach, AL. Members of the elected four executive officers and four new directors. The following bankers will serve as officers during 2007-08: President Chris Phillips, vice president, Macon Bank and Trust Company, Lafayette President-elect Greg Crihfield, senior vice president, The Lauderdale County Bank, Ripley Vice President Wes Farragut, vice president, Citizens National Bank, Sevierville Immediate Past President Leslea Ogle, vice president, Highlands Union Bank, Sevierville As president of the division, Phillips will serve as an ex-officio member of the TBA board of directors. In addition to the four executive officers, the is governed by an eightmember board of directors. The state is divided into eight groups based on geographical regions. Directors serve a two-year term. To ensure continuity of leadership, elections are staggered so that each year delegates to the Leadership Convention elect four new directors. The Young Banker s Division was established in 1960 and is devoted to preparing Tennessee s young bank officers to become the industry s next generation of leaders. The members of the division represent financial institutions across the state of Tennessee. The officers and board members for the division serve as trustees for The Southeastern School of Banking sm (TSSB), a two-year general banking school conducted annually by the TBA at the Owen Graduate School of Management on the Vanderbilt University campus. The division also sponsors the annual Introduction to Banking Seminar which serves as an orientation to the industry for those new to the field of banking and helps prepare bankers to attend the TSSB. They also oversee the Personal Economics Program (PEP), a financial literacy effort by bankers to educate consumers, both adults and youth, about such topics as banking, personal money management, the wise use of credit, the importance of saving, and identity theft and other types of fraud. Another activity in which division members participate is the Young Bankers Day on the Hill. During this annual program, bankers spend a day at the Capitol in Nashville learning about how the General Assembly functions, meeting with government leaders and their own representatives, and attending committee meetings and hearings. The association provides continuing education, develops and monitors state and federal legislative agendas, disseminates information on all facets of the financial services industry, and promotes the public image of financial institutions.
