It is commonly considered to be a faster knitting technique. One topic will be covered in one 2-hour session. Topics include: Read Your Knitting - Being able to read your knitting is the first step in identifying problems. You ll learn how to differentiate between a knit and purl stitch, the right side from the wrong side of your knitting. recognize twisted or dropped stitches, increase and decrease problems and other common mistakes. Fixing Mistakes - Now that you can recognize your mistakes, let s learn how to fix them. You ll cover picking up dropped and missed stitches, changing a knit to a purl, plus how to use techniques such as tinking to help you correct and avoid mistakes. Cast-On and Bind-Off Techniques - There are a multitude of ways to cast-on and bind-off. What are the differences and when would you use which method? This discussion will show examples and have clear handouts. Picking Up Stitches - Learn the correct way to pick-up stitches both vertically and horizontally. You would use this for putting a button-band on a cardigan sweater or a collar on a pieced sweater. We will start the cowl in class and you will finish on your own. You will get a demonstration of the mattress stitch that you will use for sewing your cowl together. Participants should come to the second class with at least four squares completed in order to learn to join the finished squares with crochet. Note: finished blanket measures 25 x 33 but you may make it as large as you d like although this will require purchase of additional yarn. Class: Design Your Own Cable Scarf Cost: $50 Dates/Time: Sunday mornings, March 19 & 26 from 10:00 am-12:00 pm Skills Learned: In this class you will learn to design your own cable scarf by combining various cables into your own unique design. Using a lecture format, we will discuss finding resources for cable patterns, managing repeats, managing cable take-up and making swatches. You ll work at home to create your scarf design using graphs. The second class will focus on refining and troubleshooting your design, casting-on and starting your scarf. Prerequisites: Must be competent to independently cast-on, knit, purl, bind-off, cable and familiarity with reading cable charts is helpful. This is NOT a class to learn to cable.
