Recap of August 9th Meeting Don Sherman presented a program entitled Vietnam and Singapore A Personal View. He and his wife and two friends spent two weeks on a cruise that took them to Hong Kong, China, Vietnam, Thailand, and Singapore. He recommends the location and the tour highly not only for the photographic opportunities but also for the friendliness of the people. Chris Day gave a technical presentation on aspects of histograms relating to digital photography and computer manipulation of images. Ralph Johnston gave a brief presentation on StereoNewEngland. Henry Weisenberger showed slides of the progression of a solar eclipse that took place in 1963. Thanks to all photographers who showed their images. Jackie Greene voiced an idea about helping out Steve Maka, the photographer who lost his equipment and images in the mill fire that took place just a few weeks ago in Uxbridge. The tentative plan is for SVNP to host a presentation on a Thursday evening, probably November 1. Photographers would be invited from area clubs; Steve would comment on slides and digital images brought by photographers attending. A donation would be requested. The SVNPers unanimously approved the concept. Jackie will report more later, but anyone wishing to help with the event could get in touch with her at 508-358-9544 or greenecom@comcast.net. Refreshments were provided by Sue Abrahamsen and Betsy Moyer. Refreshments for next months meeting will be provided by Elizabeth Weisenburger. Information & Inquiries: oldtownphoto@comcast.net About the Sudbury Valley Nature Photographers The Sudbury Valley Nature Photography group was formed in October 1995 by enthusiasts from the local area wishing to share informally their interest in and knowledge of photography. An encouraging rather than competitive environment prevails within the group, which includes over one hundred professional, amateur, and beginning photographers. Although our major interest lies in nature photography, activities of the SVNP group are not confined to nature photography. Programs and activities include a range of subject matter and techniques of interest to all photographers. SVNP has no formal structure: there are no officers, no competitions, and no dues. Activities are financed through voluntary contributions to the Paper Plate Fund. A monthly newsletter disseminates information via e-mail to members and anyone interested in SVNP. Those who prefer to receive newsletters by U.S. mail should send 12 self-addressed, stamped envelopes to Chris Ridout, 10 Sherman Bridge Road, Wayland, MA 01778. SVNP meetings are held on the second Thursday of each month, at Traditions, on Route 27, one mile south of Wayland Center, beginning at 6:30 P.M. with refreshments, and include instructional talks, slide presentations, and discussions of slides, digital images, and prints shown by members. The meetings end around 9:30 P.M. Anyone with an interest in photography is invited to attend. Occasional field trips are arranged to locations as close as Concord s Great Meadows Wildlife Refuge and as far-flung as Utah s Arches National Park and Great Smokies National Park in Tennessee. Please visit our website at http://svnp.homestead.com Send suggestions and announcements for the newsletter to Chris Rowan christopherowan@earthlink.net or 978-443-4587. 5
