How to source exponential waveform This material shows how to source exponential waveform using an example to source it to 1 kohm resistor. Figure 1 illustrates the connection and condition supposed in the example to source exponential waveform using the B2961A/B2962A. B2961A/B2962A A - V - High Force DUT Low Force Figure 1. In this case, the specified source value is sourced immediately after turning on. Then, when you press, the instrument will source exponential waveform. Sourcing finite exponential waveform Step 1. Press repeatedly until Single View for Channel 1 is shown in the display. Step 2. Press to edit the source function, and then select to set the source function to the voltage source. (1) Press Mode (2) Press VOLTS (V) Step 3. Press to edit the source value, and then enter 0.5 V to set the source value to 0.5 V. (1) Press Source (2) Enter Source Value Step 4. Press to edit the limit value, and then enter 10 ma to set the limit value to 10 ma. (1) Press Limit (2) Enter Limit Value Step 5. Press to configure the monitor parameter, and then select to set the monitor parameter to the current. (1) Press Measure (2) Press AMPS (I)

Step 6. Press to change the keys shown in Assist keys, and then press to show Waveform Preview. (1) Press Show Preview (2) Waveform Preview appears Step 7. Rotate and press to edit the function. Then press repeatedly until is shown in Assist keys. Function to edit (2) Press More until ARB EXP. is shown in Assist keys Step 8. Press to turn on Exponential Waveform Output. After turning on Exponential Waveform Output, you can see Source Shape which shows the exponential waveform output. (1) Press ARB EXP. Source Shape

Step 9. Rotate to select Channel 1 Waveform Parameters and set them up as below. (Start: 0.5 V, End: 2 V, Count: 5, Delay: 1 ms, τ(tau): 2 ms, Time: 9 ms) Step 10. Press repeatedly until Graph View is shown in the display. Step 11. Press to source the voltage, and then press to source the waveform and monitor the signal. (The status information will show during sourcing the waveform.) Step 12. Press to adjust the scale of the graph after finishing waveform sourcing. Now you can see the monitored result on the GUI of the B2961A/B2962A as bellow. Result on GUI of B2961A/B2962A

If you d like to confirm the output voltage waveform, take the following procedure. Agilent B2961A/B2962A 6.5 Digit Low Noise Power Source Step 13. Rotate and press to edit the Y-axis data type, and then select to set the Y-axis data type to the voltage. Y-axis Data Type field to select (2) Press VOLTS (V) Now you can see the monitored output voltage waveform on the GUI of the B2961A/B2962A as bellow. Configuring Trigger Parameters In the default setting, the B2961A/B2962A will monitor only the first waveform even if you set up the instrument to source plural waveforms. However, if you modify Trigger Parameters properly, you can monitor the entire output on the B2961A/B2962A without any oscilloscope. For example, let s try to change the parameters to capture the entire waveforms on Graph View of the B2961A/B2962A. Step 1. Press repeatedly until Ch1 Single View is shown in the display. Step 2. Press to change the keys shown in Assist keys, and then press to show Trigger Sub-Panel. (1) Press More... (if necessary) (2) Press Show Trigger Step 3. Press to edit the trigger type, and then select to set the trigger type to TIMER. (1) Press (2) Press TIMER Step 4. Rotate to select Channel 1 Trigger Parameters and set them up as below. (Measurement Trigger Count: 5000, Measurement Trigger Period: 10us) Step 5. Press repeatedly until Graph View is shown in the display.

Step 6. Press to source the waveform and monitor the signal. (The status information will show during sourcing the waveform.) Step 7. Press to adjust the scale of the graph after finishing waveform sourcing. Now you can see the monitored result on the GUI of the B2961A/B2962A as bellow. Sourcing continuous exponential waveform If you d like to source continuous waveform, take the following procedure. Step 1. Press repeatedly until Ch1 Single View is shown in the display. Step 2. If you don t see Channel 1 Waveform Parameters, press,, or to show Channel 1 Waveform Parameters. (1) Press More... (if necessary) (2) Press Hide Options, Hide Pulse or Hide Trigger Step 3. Rotate and press to edit Count and then press to set Count to INFINITY. Count to select (2) Press INF.

Step 4. Press to source continuous waveform. Result on Oscilloscope Stopping sourcing continuous exponential waveform If you are sourcing continuous waveform, you need to take the following procedure to stop sourcing continuous waveform. Step 1. If you aren t on the top of the Function menu, press repeatedly to return to the top level. On the top level of the Function menu Any tree structure can t be seen In the middle level of the Function menu Some tree structure can be seen Step 2. Press,,, and then press to stop sourcing the continuous arbitrary waveform. (1) Press Trigger (2) Press Abort (3) Press Trans. (4) Press Ch 1

Sourcing exponential waveform without monitoring If you d like to source waveform without monitoring, you need to take the following procedure instead of pressing to initiate only Transient (Source) Action. Step 1. If you aren t on the top of the Function menu, press repeatedly to return to the top level. On the top level of the Function menu Any tree structure can t be seen In the middle level of the Function menu Some tree structure can be seen Step 2. Press,,, and then press to start sourcing the continuous arbitrary waveform. (1) Press Trigger (2) Press Initiate (3) Press Trans. (4) Press Ch 1 Viewing the list of measurement results The measurement results including the measurement time stamp can be referred by the following steps. Step 1. If you aren t on the top of the Function menu, press repeatedly to return to the top level. On the top level of the Function menu Any tree structure can t be seen In the middle level of the Function menu Some tree structure can be seen

Step 2. If you d like to see the list of measurement results, press, then press to open Measure Result dialogue. (1) Press Result (2) Press Measure Step 3. Rotate and press to selecata Type field. (1) Rotate field to selecata Type (2) Press to selecata Type Step 4. Press to change the keys shown in Assist keys, and then press to select Time as the data type. (1) Press More (2) Press TIME (t) Step 5. Rotate and press to selecata field. Then rotate to scroll the data list. Data field to select (2) Rotate to scroll the list or press Assist key

Sourcing exponential waveform when B2961A/B2962A receives an external trigger signal If you d like to set up the instrument to source exponential waveform when B2961A/B2962A receives an external trigger signal, you need to take the following procedure to configure Trigger Parameters. Figure 3 shows the timing chart for sourcing exponential waveform when the instrument receives an external trigger signal. Step 2. Press to show Trigger Sub-Panel. (1) Press Show Trigger (2) Trigger Sub-Panel appears Step 3. Press to edit the trigger type, and then select to set the trigger type to MANUAL. (1) Press (2) Press MANUAL Step 4. Rotate to select the source trigger source and press to edit it. to edit Source Trigger Source Step 5. Press to change the keys shown in Assist keys, and then press to set the source trigger source to EXT1. (1) Press More (2) Press EXT1

Step 6. If you aren t on the top of the Function menu, press repeatedly to return to the top level. On the top level of the Function menu Any tree structure can t be seen In the middle level of the Function menu Some tree structure can be seen Step 7. Press,,, and then press to open DIO Configuration dialogue. (1) Press More (2) Press I/O (3) Press DIO (4) Press Config Step 8. Press and select to specify the digital I/O pin number, the properties of which is configured. (1) Press (2) Press Pin 1 Step 9. Rotate to select the input/output function and press to edit it. Then press to set it to the trigger input. the input/output function to edit (2) Press TRIGGER IN

Step 10. Rotate to select the polarity and press to edit it. Then press to set it to positive polarity. the polarity to edit (2) Press POS. Step 11. Press to make the modification effective. (1) Press OK to make the modification effective Step 12. Rotate to select the source trigger count and press to edit it. Then enter the number of trigger signals which will be sent to the instrument as the source trigger count. Source Trigger Count to edit (2) Enter Source Trigger Count Step 13. Or press aborted. to set it to INFINITY if you d like to continue to source exponential waveforms until it is (1) Press INF. It is required to abort the instrument to make it return to the idle state when you set the source trigger count to INFINITY.

Step 8. Press to make the instrument be ready to receive an external trigger signal. (The status information will show during sourcing the waveform.) Now the instrument has been ready to receive an external trigger signal. Output Signal from a channel Trigger Input via Digital I/O Result on Oscilloscope If you d like to make the instrument return to the idle state before finishing sourcing all waveforms, you need to take the following procedure. Step 9. If you aren t on the top of the Function menu, press repeatedly to return to the top level. On the top level of the Function menu Any tree structure can t be seen In the middle level of the Function menu Some tree structure can be seen Step 10. Press,,, and then press to make the instrument return to the idle state. (1) Press Trigger (2) Press Abort (3) Press Trans. (4) Press Ch 1
