The Action Solution Worksheet: Life Dream Worksheet: Life Dream Action Items Today Tonight When Journaling Throughout The Day Review the whole worksheet. If possible, make decisions and fill in every field in this worksheet. If you need more time, feel free to reflect, write your thoughts in your journal tonight and sleep on it. However, commit to deciding and filling out this worksheet as soon as you can. Even small decisions matter. Read the life dream you have committed to and the end result you are pursuing. Optional: If you would like, you can also continue the affirmations from Your Worldview. Pick one and read it daily. If you are not sure, the "Have Faith" Mindset or "Belief" Mindset are excellent ones to use. Write down your progress on your life dream. Reflect on your progress, as well as if you have gotten stuck. Consider when you get stuck what your "long pole" is (Available in the "Goal For The Year" session). Re-read that lesson and reflect. Keep your life dream at the front of your mind. Make it a habit to daily reflect, decide and take a small action, and to consider the life dream as part of your life, as part of who you are, and something you do. Weekly Review your progress. Look over your backwards planning worksheet, as well as your weekly, monthly and yearly actions. Consider also whether you need to give up any activities. Reflect, reaffirm your decisions, or make new decisions and continue to take action.
The Action Solution Worksheet: Life Dream Instructions, Lessons and Points for Reflection Review the list of desires we put together, as well as the list of obstacles you brainstormed. Now ask yourself: Is one specific desire my life dream? Are a combination of desires my life dream? Is there one specific obstacle that I can identify that has been stopping or holding up my life dream? Are my desires all compatible with my life dream? One thing my friend, and mentor, Luciano Passuello often reminds me is this: "You can do anything, but not everything. Choose wisely." When you start pursuing a life dream, the biggest change I've noticed compared to just a "regular" goal is it truly begins to affect your lifestyle. There are decisions you will have to make for other goals, tasks and projects in your life that you may have to put on hold, or may have to decline or pull yourself out of. For example, one big life dream I've noticed with some of my friends in their 30s is they want to start a family. When they start having children, they often find they no longer have as much time for their personal hobbies, or perhaps in some cases for an aggressive career with long hours. There's nothing wrong with that it's just the reality that there will be certain things that were once a priority, but that will no longer be a priority compare to your life dream. So with that in mind, let's get to some reflection, and make a decision.
The Action Solution Worksheet: Life Dream Reflection and Decision: Your Life Dream Reflection: Reflect on the desires you have, and the obstacles you want to overcome Decision: Can you describe your life dream in a sentence? Can you explain what it is you want to do/be, and what it will look like when you get there? (Note: it's ok if these two are similar. For some people, these will be different, for some people, they'll be the same) My life dream is to: The end result/the lifestyle/the goal I am pursuing is: Optional: A major obstacle that is holding me back and I need to overcome is:
The Action Solution Worksheet: Life Dream You Can Do Anything, But Not Everything Let me preface this by saying that this can be a difficult exercise. I have had people strongly disagree with me on this, and say that they can do everything, they don't need to compromise. I completely understand, because I have often felt the same way. In fact, today you may not have to compromise. As your life dream grows, it is possible you may never have to compromise if all your goals and desires fall in line with your dream however, oftentimes, that is not the case. Especially as time passes and the life dream (happily) ends up consuming more of our time and our lives, there are goals, projects and activities we'll have to give up. So I encourage you to do this exercise and think about those things now, before you become overwhelmed. We'll touch on similar themes in the Big Rocks cornerstone.
The Action Solution Worksheet: Life Dream Do Anything, But Not Everything Exercise I. Write down the activities, projects and tasks you currently do, that take up large amounts of your time. Aim for 5-10 activities. II. Reflect on each activity. a. Does this activity contribute, or belong to your life dream? b. If not, would you be willing to give it up, or is it nonnegotiable? III. Decide which activities you may want to give up. a. You don't have to give them up right away you can choose to continue them, especially if you enjoy them and you have time for them. IV. Action. When the time comes, make steady changes in your life so that you spend more time on activities that contribute and slowly start spending less time on activities that don't. Activity Contributes? Give it up? When? (use more paper if necessary)
The Action Solution Worksheet: Life Dream Backwards Planning Exercise This exercise is the same as from Goal For The Year, and will assist you in your Life Dream as well. I. Write down your life dream, and where you are today. II. Backwards plan the large steps required to accomplish your dream. Start with Life Dream, and then plan backwards to where you are today. Example provided in the Goal for the Year session (use more paper if necessary). My Life Dream Steps Where I am Today
The Action Solution Worksheet: Life Dream Manageable Steps Exercise Look at the steps you have brainstormed above. Could you accomplish any of them this year? Could you accomplish the entire dream? If so, focus in on the step (or steps) you can accomplish this year. If not, think of a step you can accomplish this year. Then spend some time reflecting, and make some decisions. Decision: Consider what you could accomplish this week and finally, what you can do today. Fill in as many as you can below you don't have to fill in every field if you don't know. This year I will This month I will This week I will This day I will The action you take today can be as small as a phone call, sending an email, or looking up a piece of information you need. However you must take some action to cement the commitment in your mind. Today: Take action towards your life dream. If you already are, and progress isn't coming fast enough consider what you may want to start or eliminate. Each week, review your life dream, and then consider what progress you can make towards your dream in the coming week. Daily, write in your journal as you learn and make progress.
