Installing Rail Bases Two Rail System (Top and Bottom Rail) NOTE: If you ordered the rail system with the optional MicroStar LED lighting, refer to page 13 before continuing. Option 1: If your rail design calls for surface mounted bases use the following instructions: Step 1: According to your assembly drawing snap chalk lines on the mounting surface (deck, interior floor, etc) to produce straight lines for installing your bases. Chalk lines should always be set according to the assembly drawing specifications, but at a minimum of 2 away from the edges of the deck boards where the deck boards overhang the joists to avoid splitting the board when drilling the holes for the surface mount base. This will ensure that the railing is straight. Important!! When mounting on a deck, for greater stability, surface mount bases must be installed on the boards directly over the

Page 5 of 18 joists. A minimum of 2 of the 4 supplied screws for the bases must be screwed through into the joists. Where screws are not inserted directly into the joists, the under part of the deck should be reinforced for greater stability. NOTE: It is very important to secure the surface mount bases into the joist supports below for overall strength and stability. Most decks have double joists at the perimeter, and for best strength, two base screws should be located in each of those. Carefully determine the position of the first base and last base according to your assembly drawing, very. Verify that the spacing of intermediate posts matches the assembly drawing layout for your deck railing. Mark the location of the screw holes and pre-drill holes through the deck boards and into the joists below; be careful not to drill oversize,. NOTE: Make sure that the base is aligned and perfectly level. Matching stainless steel shims are available if required. Fasten the base to the deck with the wood screws provided. Insert the first post over the base. Step 2: Insert the second post over the second base. If you have a bottom rail, insert the dovetail connector completely into the bottom rail as shown. Slide the bottom rail over the dovetails on the first and second posts. Do not fasten the bottom rail. NOTE: It is recommended to NOT fasten the dovetail connectors to the bottom rails with the adhesive.

Page 6 of 18 Step 3: Position the second base in line with the first base along the chalk line. Mark the location of the screw holes. Move the second base and rail slightly away and pre-drill holes through the deck boards and into the joists below. Move the base and rail back into place. Step 4: Remove the bottom rail. Remove the second post. Fasten the second base to the deck with the screws or fasteners provided. Step 5: Insert the second post over the second base. Slide the bottom rail over the dovetails on the first and second posts. Do not fasten. Lift the first post up ½ and apply a thin bead of the provided adhesive to the base. Do not over apply adhesive. Slide the post back over the base. Wipe off any excess adhesive immediately. Step 6: Repeat step 2 to 5 for the next base and post. Step 7: Insert the bottom rail between the first and second posts and fasten.

Page 15 of 18 Step 1: Mount the transformer near a 110v power outlet but leave the transformer unplugged until it is needed. Select the end post closest to the outlet in order to connect to the transformer. Step 2: For Railing Installations over a Wood Deck Before installing the first railing post, drill a small hole through the decking in the center where the first post base will be mounted. Run a section of wire down through the post and hole in the decking to the transformer. This ensures a clean look with all wiring kept out of view. Extra wire may be needed and is available upon request. For Railing Installations over Concrete or Masonry Before installing the first railing post, drill a small hole through the concrete or masonry in the centre where the first post base will be mounted. Run a section of wire down through the post and hole in the concrete or masonry to the transformer. The wire needs to be routed through a suitable conduit, which in turn must be securely fastened to the concrete in such as way as to not create a hazard. This ensures a clean look with all wiring kept out of view. Extra wire may be needed and is available upon request. Step 3: When ready to install the top rail connect the wiring that goes through the end post to the wiring in the first top rail section. NOTE: Ensure that the wire colors match (i.e., red to red, etc) For each addition section, run the wire through the top

Page 16 of 18 fittings. Connect the wires using the supplied intermediate connectors supplied with your system, as you install the top rail. Important! Make sure that the wiring does not get cut nor pinched. NOTE: It is recommended that each section be tested before installing the following one by plugging the transformer in. If the lighting does not work, recheck the wire connections. For the last railing section, tape the each connector to insure they do not touch and then tape the end wire connectors together and store the excess in the top rail before finishing the installing. Option: If wiring isolated sections of rail, use one of the following two options: For Railing Installations over a Wood Deck Wire the section directly to the transformer. Run the wiring from another section under the deck and through the mounting base. For Railing Installations over Concrete or Masonry Wire the section directly to the transformer. Run the wiring from another section under the concrete or masonry and through the mounting base. Step 4: Once railing is completely installed and lighting is fully functional, set the timer on the transformer for the desired lighting period.
