Sacred Heart Primary School Highgate, in conjunction with the Parents and Friends Association, present the 2017 Art Exhibition and Auction. PARLIAMENT OF OWLS by YEAR 2 The Year Two students created this Parliament of Owls, demonstrating their skills in line drawing. They all followed specific instructions to create their own owl. As you can see, just as the Year Two students do, each owl displays a different personality. The artwork was completed on Adobe Photo shop to produce a one of a kind print. Move around

Art Work 2 THE PERFECT STORM by KINDY The students from Kindergarten have been learning about weather. To compliment the individual Rainbow Rainfall art works, Mrs Marie McKenna inspired the students to create a Perfect Storm. Using crayons and a hairdryer, the students all took part in creating this abstract art piece. Blue buttons were added as raindrops. The students learned about different media in Art, and elements of Science (using heat), and the concept of collaboration, as they all took part to create this wonderful art piece! 2

Art Work 3 GOLDEN LEAVES by YEAR 4 The Year Four students created this Moroccan feel art work. During Autumn, the students explored the colours and textures of the autumn leaves. They experimented with rubbings, drawings, clay, to represent the autumn leaves. This artwork was created using gold embossing shim. The students designed an abstract panel in the theme of Autumn leaves. Using embossing tools, they pressed their design into the shim, and rubbed it with black oil pastel, to highlight each piece s detail. 3

Art Work 4 PAINT THE STARS by PRE PRIMARY The Pre-Primary students used firing clay for the first time when they created this piece. Learning the processes of using clay, the students assisted in cutting out the stars, and used tools to create texture on each star. The stars have been painted in a silver chrome paint and displayed with Vincent Van Gogh s famous quote. This inspirational quote, reminds the students to always be at their best, sharing their ideas. 4

Art Work 5 DRAGONFLY DUSK by Year 1 The Year One students developed their pattern making skills with pencil first. They progressed, moving from just zig-zag patterns to more intricate designs, as they became proficient at using the fine artline pens. 5 The students learned to use the positive and negative space, when creating a pattern. Each dragonfly is unique, just as unique as the Year One students themselves. The Dare to be

Art Work 6 MOONLIT TURTLES by YEAR 5 The Year 5 students created two-dimensional turtle art pieces demonstrating their skills in different pattern techniques in line, shade and positive and negative space. Using this knowledge, they created three-dimensional turtles using kilnfired clay and clay tools to display engraved patterns on the turtles shells. The moonlit baby turtles are guided by the moon to journey into the future; A sentiment shared by our Year Five students, moving to their final year of Primary School, and 6

Art Work 7 OUR SACRED HEARTS by PRE KINDY The Pre-Kindy students are our future Sacred Hearts. This art work was completed eagerly by the three-year olds and represents the future of this school. As art imitates life, the teachers assisted in filling in the gaps with their own finger prints. Symbolising that they are there to assist the inquiry process when teaching the children. 7

Art Work 8 MEOW by YEAR 3 The Year Three students created Meow with two major influences, Paul Klee s Cat, and Lauren Birch s colourful cats. Using a similar design to the one Paul Klee used in his famous art work, Cat and Bird, and using the colourful palette of Lauren Birch s cat paintings, the Year Three class has created this unique piece. This art work was produced with bright oil pastels. A beautiful piece, Meow will really stand out on a plain wall at home! 8

Art work 9 URBAN JOURNEY by the GRADUATING CLASS, 2017 The Graduation Class of 2017; What a special piece this is! After an interesting and insightful tour of the Highgate/Mt Lawley Urban Art scene, the Year six students worked to create a collective urban art piece. Inspired by the WA Art Gallery s recent exhibit entitled The Rise of the Sneaker, the Year Six students developed the idea with an Australian icon, the thong! Combining these influences and ideas, the art piece, named Urban Journey, displays the students urban ideas, reflections and thoughts. A 9

Final Art work 120 SACRED TREE This art work represents the whole of our wonderful school. The blooms of the tree are named hearts of every student and teacher here at Sacred Heart Primary School Highgate, in our 120 th Anniversary year. 10 A beautiful piece created in commemoration of our wonderful year of celebrations and recognition of our rich heritage. Congratulation, Sacred Heart!
